Very, very many of you have been mailing us lately with questions about the 4 Swords, so I figured it was for the best I put my answers in a FAQ, and here it is.
Q: What kind of equipment do I need to play multiplayer Zelda? - Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Germany
A: There's a maximum limit of 4 players for the 4swords. Each player will be needing this:
Other equipment:
In addition to this, you will also be needing a link cable supporting up to four players, or a 2-player cable if that is what you're going to play.
The minimum number of players for 4 Swords is 2, you can play 2,3 or 4-player in 4 swords.
It is also possible to play using the GBplayer for the Nintendo GameCube, to find excellent info, please pay a visit to Barry's article on this.
Q: My stupid mother bought me a European GBA SP when she was in France this summer, now I guess I won't be able to play the US 4 Swords game I got for my birthday, do I need to buy a US console? - Joe Picklesnout, New York
A: Your mother is not stupid, you are. The American games work fine with EU GBAs, and US consoles can handle the EU games as well. An american GBA can even play JAP games too. No regions there my friend, allthough the games might be slightly changed from localization (especially the JAP :).
Q: I live in the US. Is it possible to play multiplayer Zelda with persons from other countries, Europe for example? - Miss Travella Lot, Rhode Island
A: Well, my answer is sadly no.I am not 100% sure, but I tried playing multiplayer 4swords with my imported US version with another person's EU version, didn't work :/
I am not sure about other regions, but the US/EU connectivity didn't seem to work. Most likely the JAP version will not work either in multiplayer play with US versions of the 4 Swords.
Q: Does my actions in a link to the past affect what's going on in 4swords? - Mr. Manuel Calavera, Madrid
A: Yes, if you for example get the master sword in alttp, you will also get the sword beam in 4swords which is quite useful.
Q: I heard there's a Riddle Quest in 4swords, what's that, and how do I do it? - Mr. Graham Green - Great Britain
A: To get the riddle quest, you first have to obtain ten medals in 4 Swords (those round shaped triforce medals). Then after doing so, you exit 4swords and switch to A Link to the Past. When in alttp, go to the Lumberjack. You will find the Lumberjack on the right side of the lost wood. If you finish the riddle quest you will obtain the Hurricane Blade special move.
