Several months after rescuing Princess Zelda and saving the land of Hyrule, Link set foot onto the mysterious world of Termina by chance while in the midst of a new journey. There, Link heard a frightful rumor that in just three days, the moon would fall from the heavens onto that land...
Along the way he is robbed of his horse and transformed into a Deku by a strange but tremendously powerful Skull Kid, bearing the Majora's Mask, and holding a power that not even he can understand...
Game Review
The overall score is an AVERAGE of each factor's score.
Graphics = 9.5 of 10
This game has absolutely beautiful graphics, including a near infinite drawing rate and detailed textures with the Expansion Pak. The colors are marvelous and many characters can fit on screen and interact in real time, a very noble accomplishment. Although the framerate still fatigues a little bit when more than 5 characters are on screen, most of the time it stays constant and smooth, a definite plus.
Sound = 9 of 10
Once again, a masterful soundtrack is implemented into this game, squeezing all the space it could out of the cartridge. The tone of each day is increasingly dramatic, and the boss tempos are crafted to a perfect tone for the enemy and the environment. Enemy music changes in real time, which is something OoT implemented but was more subtle. The only downfall is the use of an N64 cartridge can almost never do complete musical justice to such an epic game, but the sound is practically unnoticable when you're so immensely involved in the game at almost all times.
Control = 9.5 of 10
Nintendo did a very smart thing when they stuck to the tried and true method of keeping the OoT controls. They are responsive and dependable, and fit like a glove once you understand and use them. The only minor problem I could notice was the hassle it sometimes took to switch to needed items when you...needed them. This is simply a bad planning on my part most of the time, and it barely affected my gameplay.
Gameplay = 10 of 10
The game flows along smoothly, with each and every change blending in perfectly with the story. I even get a smile on my face when I realize I just solved a difficult puzzle or earned an elusive item. There's really nothing like embarking on an entracing side quest or seeing the cutscene of a new area you've earned your way into. The gameplay is simply flawless in every way, with hours of playtime and just so much to find. Awesome, awesome...
Replay = 10 of 10
There's simply so much to do in this game that you couldn't even scratch the surface of it's complexity by going through the game once. There are many, MANY side quests to be found and new elements of the game to be found that you are simply taunted to go back and play as soon as you're done. I even have the urge to turn the game back on as soon as I turn it off. The game excels possibly the greatest in this area.
Fun Factor = 10 of 10
The fun factor is an absolute no question 10. There is, again, so much to do and explore and find that the game will keep you busy, intrigued, and entertained for months to come. Perfect.
Overall = 9.7 of 10
The game is a nearly perfect game, with so much to do and explore it's just simply mind-boggling. Nintendo has outdone themselves once again with an epic RPG/Adventure and has taken Link out on the N64 with style. The Gamecube is going to give them even more opportunity to entrance us once again. Great job Nintendo, Majora's Mask will be a title talked about by millions for years to come.
