Alright, fellow adventurers, you heard right! The Biggoron Sword in Ocarina of Time isn’t just a weapon; it’s a statement. This colossal blade, capable of turning even the toughest enemies into mincemeat, is the ultimate prize for those brave enough to undertake its epic trading sequence. Unlike the Master Sword, which holds a sacred and pivotal role in Hyrule’s destiny, the Biggoron Sword is a testament to masterful craftsmanship and a reward for a series of good deeds (and timely deliveries!).
This isn’t just a cosmetic upgrade; the Biggoron Sword boasts double the damage output of the Master Sword, making short work of many foes. However, wielding such a massive weapon requires both hands, meaning you’ll have to forgo the use of your shield while it’s equipped. This comprehensive guide will walk you through each step of the Biggoron Sword trading sequence, providing detailed instructions, helpful tips for the timed missions, and solutions to common pitfalls. Get ready for an adventure that spans across Hyrule!

Step 1: The Pocket Egg
Head to Kakariko Village during the day and locate Anju, the Cucco Lady. She’s usually standing near her chicken coop, close to the entrance of the graveyard. Talk to her, and she’ll lament about her Pocket Cucco not being happy. Make sure you have an empty slot in your inventory – a classic adventurer’s oversight! She will then entrust you with the Pocket Egg.
Step 2: Hatching the Egg and Waking Talon
Now comes the waiting game, or a quick musical interlude! The Pocket Egg needs time to hatch. You can either wait for a full in-game day to pass (time doesn’t progress in villages, so head to Hyrule Field or another area), or, if you’re impatient like many of us, play the Sun’s Song twice. This will instantly hatch the egg into the Pocket Cucco. Once you have the chick, head to the first house on the left as you enter Kakariko Village from Hyrule Field (before you reach the stairs leading up to the Potion Shop and Bazaar). Inside, you’ll find the perpetually sleepy Talon snoozing away. Target Talon and use the Pocket Cucco. Its crowing will serve as his rude awakening.
Step 3: Cojiro, the Blue Cucco
With Talon now presumably heading back to Lon Lon Ranch, return to Anju with the Pocket Cucco. She’ll be delighted that her Pocket Cucco has fulfilled its purpose. As a reward for your Cucco-handling skills, she’ll give you Cojiro, a distinctive blue Cucco that belonged to her brother. This is where things start to get a little quirky, but trust the process! The blue Cucco, Cojiro, is a unique item in the game with a specific purpose in this quest line.
Step 4: The Odd Mushroom
Now, venture into the Lost Woods from Kokiri Forest. From the entrance, take the first left. This is the same area where you encountered the Skull Kid as a child. You’ll find Anju’s brother (also known as the Master Craftsman’s Son) sitting by a stump. He appears to be quite down. Equip Cojiro and use it near him. The sight of the blue Cucco will cheer him up, and he’ll ask you to deliver something to his grandmother in Kakariko Village. He’ll give you the Odd Mushroom. But listen up, this is the first timed mission! The mushroom will spoil if you take too long – you have about three minutes! The introduction of timed missions adds a layer of challenge and urgency to the quest.
Step 5: The Odd Potion (or Poultice)
Time to hustle! Make your way back to Kakariko Village as fast as you can. Do not use any warp songs from your Ocarina, as this will cause the mushroom to spoil instantly. Summon Epona if you have her – she’ll be your best friend in this race against the clock. Once in Kakariko, head to the main Potion Shop. Instead of going to the counter, look for a passage on the left side. This leads to a back door. Go through it, and you’ll find yourself behind the main shop. Look for a set of stairs leading up to another door – this is the entrance to Granny’s secret Potion Shop. Talk to Granny and hand over the Odd Mushroom. She’ll take a sniff and give you the Odd Potion (known as the Odd Poultice in the Nintendo 3DS version).
Step 6: The Poacher’s Saw
Time to head back to the Lost Woods, to the same spot as before. You can now use warp songs like the Minuet of Forest to get there quickly if you know it. You’ll find that Anju’s brother is no longer there. Instead, you’ll encounter a young Kokiri girl named Fado. She’ll have a rather grim explanation for his disappearance. Give Fado the Odd Potion, and in return, she’ll give you the Poacher’s Saw. Progress!
Step 7: The Broken Goron’s Sword
Our next destination is Gerudo Valley. Head west across Hyrule Field until you reach the large canyon. You’ll see a broken bridge spanning the gorge. If you have Epona, ride towards the gap at full speed, and she’ll automatically jump across. If not, use your Hookshot or Longshot to grapple to the other side. Once across, look for a carpenter (the Master Craftsman) standing outside a tent. Talk to him and give him the Poacher’s Saw. He’ll be surprised to see it and will reward you with the Broken Goron’s Sword. We’re getting closer to that legendary blade!
Step 8: The Prescription
Now, it’s time for a climb! Make your way up Death Mountain to the very peak, the same area where you first encountered Biggoron as a child. He’s located near the Great Fairy Fountain, to the right of the Death Mountain Crater entrance. Show Biggoron the Broken Sword. He’ll recognize it as his handiwork but will complain about his eyes being irritated by the recent volcanic eruption. He’ll give you a Prescription for eyedrops and ask you to fetch them from King Zora in Zora’s Domain.
Step 9: The Eyeball Frog
Make your way to Zora’s Domain and swim up to King Zora’s throne room. As mentioned in the prerequisites, ensure you have already used Blue Fire to unfreeze him if he’s still encased in ice. Show King Zora the Prescription. He’ll explain that he doesn’t have the eyedrops themselves but has the necessary ingredient. He will then bestow upon you the Eyeball Frog. Another timed mission awaits! This little amphibian needs to be delivered fresh to the Lakeside Laboratory in Lake Hylia within three minutes!
Step 10: The World’s Finest Eyedrops
Time for another frantic dash! Head to Lake Hylia and locate the Lakeside Laboratory, which is on the right side of the area. Remember, no warp songs allowed during this delivery! Inside the lab, talk to the eccentric Professor and hand over the Eyeball Frog. He might initially think it’s for his dinner, but he’ll quickly realize it’s for Biggoron’s eyedrops. He’ll concoct the World’s Finest Eyedrops for you. But the pressure’s on! These eyedrops have a short shelf life – you have approximately 3-4 minutes to get them back to Biggoron!
Step 11: The Claim Check
This is it, the final timed gauntlet! You need to haul those precious Eyedrops back to Biggoron on Death Mountain within roughly 4 minutes. Again, no warp songs allowed! Epona is your best bet here. Ride her back through Hyrule Field towards Kakariko Village, then make the climb up Death Mountain as quickly as possible. If you planted a Magic Bean near Dodongo’s Cavern as a kid, that flying platform can be a lifesaver for a significant portion of the ascent.
You may also find the Lost Woods shortcut to Goron City and then up Death Mountain to be a viable alternative. If you manage to reach Biggoron in time and give him the Eyedrops, he’ll be incredibly grateful and reward you with the Claim Check for the Biggoron Sword.
Step 12: The Glorious Biggoron Sword
Almost there! Biggoron needs three full in-game days to forge the magnificent Biggoron Sword. During this time, feel free to undertake other adventures, explore dungeons, or collect Heart Pieces. Use the Sun’s Song at your own risk for the next 3 three days. There are known glitches in certain versions of the game that have interfered with the forging process! After three days have passed, return to Biggoron at the peak of Death Mountain and show him the Claim Check.
And there it is! With a hearty laugh, he’ll hand over the magnificent Biggoron Sword! You did it! Now go forth and unleash its incredible power upon the enemies of Hyrule! Just remember, it’s a two-handed weapon, so no shield, but the sheer damage output is well worth it! The final reward is a powerful weapon that significantly alters combat dynamics.
Biggoron Sword vs. The Master Sword
Now that you possess both legendary blades, how do they stack up? The Biggoron Sword boasts double the damage of the Master Sword. However, its immense size requires two hands, leaving you without the defensive capabilities of your shield. Unlike the Giant’s Knife, which breaks after a few uses, the Biggoron Sword is remarkably durable and will never shatter. While the Biggoron Sword excels in raw power, the Master Sword possesses unique magical properties, particularly effective against evil forces.
The Master Sword is the only weapon capable of delivering the final blow to Ganon. The Biggoron Sword is a fantastic choice for general combat, allowing you to dispatch most enemies with greater speed, while the Master Sword remains essential for specific foes and the ultimate confrontation.
