Hyrule is a land brimming with ancient artifacts, powerful magic, and everyday tools that can mean the difference between saving the world and succumbing to darkness. Here’s a breakdown of everything Link can get his heroic hands on!
Select Item Subscreen (C-Button Items)
These are the items you’ll be actively using throughout your adventure, assigned to the C buttons for quick access. Master their use to overcome obstacles and enemies!

Ocarina of Time / Ocarina of Time 3D
The titular instrument! This sacred Ocarina, gifted by Princess Zelda, is not just for playing tunes. It’s the key to manipulating time, opening sealed passages, and calling upon mystical powers. You’ll learn a variety of songs that warp you across Hyrule, summon storms, or even call your trusty steed, Epona. It replaces the Fairy Ocarina.

Deku Stick
More than just a twig! These slender sticks, found by defeating Deku Babas or purchased in shops, can be lit on fire to illuminate dark areas, light torches, or even deal a bit more damage in combat early on. Be warned, they’re fragile and break easily!

Deku Nut
A surprisingly effective self-defense tool! Toss one of these at an enemy to unleash a blinding flash, stunning them momentarily and giving you an opening to attack or escape. You can find them from defeated Deku Babas or buy them.

Bomb
Explosive power in the palm of your hand! Bombs are essential for uncovering hidden grottos, destroying obstacles, and dealing hefty damage to certain foes. You’ll acquire them after conquering Dodongo’s Cavern. Handle with care!

Fairy Bow
Link’s go-to ranged weapon. After finding it in the Forest Temple, the Fairy Bow allows you to dispatch enemies from a distance, hit out-of-reach switches, and is crucial for solving many puzzles. You’ll need arrows, of course!

Fire Arrow
An upgrade for your Fairy Bow, these magical arrows are imbued with the power of fire. Acquired by shooting the morning sun at Lake Hylia after obtaining the Water Medallion, they can melt ice, light torches from afar, and incinerate foes. Consumes magic power.

Din’s Fire
Unleash a searing sphere of flame! This powerful spell, gifted by a Great Fairy, engulfs the area around Link in fire, damaging multiple enemies and lighting torches. It’s a potent offensive and utility tool that consumes magic.

Fairy Slingshot
Young Link’s first ranged weapon. Perfect for targeting distant switches or stunning smaller enemies with Deku Seeds. You’ll find this trusty slingshot within the Deku Tree.

Bombchu
The explosive mouse! These clever, mobile bombs travel along the ground, walls, and even ceilings before detonating. They’re fantastic for hitting targets at odd angles or through small openings. Find them in various chests or buy them at the Bombchu Shop.

Longshot
An upgraded version of the Hookshot, the Longshot boasts an extended chain, allowing Link to grapple onto distant targets, cross wider gaps, and snag hard-to-reach items. You’ll discover this invaluable tool in the Water Temple. It replaces the standard Hookshot.

Ice Arrow
Another magical arrow type for your Fairy Bow. Found in the Gerudo Training Ground, Ice Arrows can freeze enemies solid, creating temporary platforms or immobilizing threats. Consumes magic power.

Farore’s Wind
This incredibly useful spell, bestowed by a Great Fairy, allows Link to create a warp point within a dungeon. You can then instantly return to that point from elsewhere in the same dungeon. Perfect for saving time and backtracking. Consumes magic.

Boomerang
A classic Zelda tool, found within Jabu-Jabu’s Belly. The Boomerang can retrieve items, stun enemies, and hit multiple targets in a single throw. Essential for Young Link’s aquatic adventures.

Lens of Truth (Eye of Truth)
Seeing is believing! This mystical lens, obtained from the bottom of the Well in Kakariko Village, reveals hidden enemies, illusory walls, invisible platforms, and other secrets that the naked eye cannot perceive. It slowly drains your magic while active.

Magic Bean
Plant these special beans in soft soil spots as Young Link. Return as Adult Link to find a sturdy plant has grown, often leading to secret areas or Heart Pieces. You can buy them from a peculiar man near Zora’s River.

Megaton Hammer
This massive, powerful hammer, once wielded by the Goron hero Darunia, is found in the Fire Temple. It can smash rusty switches, pound down pillars, and flatten even the toughest foes. It’s slow but incredibly strong.

Light Arrow (Arrow of Light)
The ultimate arrow, crucial for defeating Ganondorf. Princess Zelda gifts these to Link. Imbued with sacred light, they can pierce through darkness and stun even the most powerful evil. Consumes magic power.

Nayru’s Love
A protective barrier spell granted by a Great Fairy. When cast, Nayru’s Love envelops Link in a shimmering blue aura, making him temporarily invincible to damage. It consumes a significant amount of magic.

Bottle (#1, #2, #3, #4)
Perhaps the most versatile items in Hyrule! Bottles can hold a myriad of useful things, from health-restoring potions and fairies to quest-critical items like Blue Fire or Poe Souls. Seek them out – they are invaluable! (You’ll acquire them through various sidequests and tasks, such as helping Anju with her Cuccos in Kakariko Village, finding one at the bottom of Lake Hylia, winning Talon’s Super Cucco Game, and by completing the Big Poe sidequest).
Other Inventory Items and Icons (Often Temporary or Visual Changes)

Fairy Ocarina
Young Link’s first ocarina, given to him by Saria. It allows you to play the basic songs you learn early in your adventure. It’s eventually replaced by the Ocarina of Time.

Hookshot
A spring-loaded chain device that allows Link to grapple onto wooden objects or targets, pulling him across gaps or stunning enemies. Found in Dampé’s Grave. It’s later replaced by the more powerful Longshot.
Bottled Items: Wonders in a Glass!
Your empty bottles can become lifesavers or key tools. Here’s what you can fill them with:

Red Potion
The standard healing draught. Quaff this to restore a good portion of your lost hearts. Purchase it from shops or find it in pots and chests.

Green Potion
Feeling magically drained? This potion replenishes your magic meter, allowing you to cast more spells or use magic-consuming items. Available in shops.

Blue Potion
The best of both worlds! This potent concoction fully restores both your health and your magic. It’s more expensive and harder to come by, often requiring a specific sidequest to unlock its purchase (like bringing the Odd Mushroom to the old hag in Kakariko Potion Shop).

Milk (Lon Lon Milk)
Fresh from Lon Lon Ranch! Drinking milk restores five hearts. A full bottle contains two servings. You can buy it at the ranch or win it from Talon.

Fairy (Fairy’s Spirit)
A true lifesaver! If Link falls in battle with a fairy in a bottle, it will automatically revive him, restoring a number of hearts. You can also release them manually for a smaller heal. Find them at Great Fairy Fountains or sometimes hidden in pots or grass.

Fish
Needed for a specific purpose: getting into Lord Jabu-Jabu’s belly as Young Link. Catch one in a bottle and present it to the hungry deity.

Bug (Bottle Bug)
Catch these critters crawling around Hyrule. They’re useful for coaxing Gold Skulltulas out of soft soil spots or sometimes as part of trading sequences.

Blue Fire
This mystical cold flame can melt the ominous red ice found in locations like the Ice Cavern and Zora’s Domain. Scoop it up from specific sources or buy it at a premium.

Poe Soul
The captured spirit of a regular Poe. Collect these for a specific sidequest given by the Poe Collector in the ruins of Hyrule Castle Town.

Big Poe Soul
The lingering spirit of a more powerful Big Poe. Defeat all ten Big Poes found across Hyrule Field as Adult Link and bottle their souls for a special reward from the Poe Collector.

Letter (Letter in a Bottle)
Discovered in Lake Hylia by Young Link, this letter is from Ruto, the Zora princess, pleading for help from inside Lord Jabu-Jabu. Showing it to King Zora is key to gaining access.
Quest Items & Masks: Tools of Trade and Transformation
These items are often central to progressing the story or completing important sidequests.

Weird Egg
Your journey with Epona begins here! Malon gives you this egg at Lon Lon Ranch. It will hatch into a Cucco overnight.

Cucco
Once the Weird Egg hatches, you use this Cucco to wake up the sleeping Talon in Hyrule Castle, allowing you to sneak into the castle grounds.

Zelda’s Letter
After meeting Princess Zelda for the first time, she entrusts Link with this letter. It grants official permission to access the path to Death Mountain. Show it to the guard in Kakariko Village.
Masks (Happy Mask Salesman Quest)
Borrow these from the eccentric Happy Mask Salesman in Hyrule Castle Town (as Young Link) and sell them to the correct individuals to progress the quest and earn rewards.

Keaton Mask
How to Get It: This is the first mask you can borrow from the Happy Mask Salesman.
Who Wants It: The guard standing at the Death Mountain Trail entrance in Kakariko Village. He mentions wanting a popular mask for his son.
Ocarina of Time Use: Successfully selling this mask to the guard is the first step in the trading sequence. Wearing the Keaton Mask in certain patches of rustling grass (after meeting specific conditions, like having sold it and then talked to the guard again) can also summon the elusive three-tailed fox, Keaton. Answer his quiz questions correctly for a reward (often a Piece of Heart)!
Progression: Once sold, return to the Happy Mask Salesman to pay him back and borrow the next mask.

Skull Mask
How to Get It: Borrow this from the Happy Mask Salesman after successfully selling the Keaton Mask.
Who Wants It: That enigmatic Skull Kid you can find playing the flute in the Lost Woods! Approach him while wearing it, and he’ll be quite taken with its spooky charm.
Ocarina of Time Use: Beyond its appeal to the Skull Kid, wearing the Skull Mask has a nifty perk: certain enemies like Keese (bats) and sometimes Bubbles (flying flaming skulls) will ignore Link or be less aggressive.
Progression: After the Skull Kid “borrows” it (you still get paid by the Salesman), head back to the shop.

Spooky Mask
How to Get It: Available from the Happy Mask Salesman after the Skull Mask is accounted for.
Who Wants It: The young boy who wanders the Kakariko Village Graveyard during the daytime. He fancies himself a bit of a “ghost hunter” and loves scary things; this mask is right up his alley.
Ocarina of Time Use: Its primary use is to impress this specific boy and continue the trading sequence.
Progression: Once sold, report back to the Happy Mask Salesman.

Bunny Hood
How to Get It: The final mask you need to sell, borrowed after the Spooky Mask.
Who Wants It: The Running Man who tirelessly sprints around Hyrule Field. You’ll need to anticipate his path and speak to him. He’s looking for something to give him an edge or simply enjoys the look.
Ocarina of Time Use: While you wear it, some say it makes you feel a little lighter on your feet, but its main purpose is to complete the selling part of the quest. The Running Man will wear it contentedly as he continues his marathon.
Progression: After selling it to the Running Man (for a good price that covers your debt and then some!), return to the Happy Mask Salesman. This completes the “selling” portion of his requests.

Mask of Truth
How to Get It: This is your grand reward from the Happy Mask Salesman after you’ve successfully sold the Keaton, Skull, Spooky, and Bunny Hood masks and settled your dues for each. He allows you to borrow this one indefinitely, free of charge.
Use: The Mask of Truth is incredibly useful! When worn, Link can understand the whispers and thoughts of Gossip Stones (the Sheikah Stones with an eye symbol found throughout Hyrule). These stones often reveal gameplay tips, hidden secrets, bits of lore, or humorous comments. Additionally, the Mask of Truth allows you to understand what animals are saying or thinking. Show it at the Forest Stage for a Deku Nut upgrade!

Goron Mask
How to Get It: After completing the initial four-mask selling sequence and obtaining the ability to borrow the Mask of Truth, the Goron Mask also becomes available to borrow for free from the Happy Mask Salesman.
Use: This mask makes Link’s head resemble that of a Goron. It doesn’t grant any special Goron abilities (like rolling or super strength – those come from items like the Goron Tunic or Gauntlets). Its purpose in Ocarina of Time is purely cosmetic, eliciting unique dialogue and reactions from various NPCs when you speak to them while wearing it. For example, other Gorons might comment on it, and King Zora will reminisce about his old friend Biggoron.

Zora Mask
How to Get It: Like the Goron Mask, the Zora Mask can be borrowed for free from the Happy Mask Salesman once the initial four-mask quest is done and the Mask of Truth is available.
Use: Wearing this mask gives Link the appearance of a Zora. Similar to the Goron Mask, it’s for amusement and NPC reactions in Ocarina of Time, not for gaining Zora abilities (like underwater breathing, which the Zora Tunic provides). See how Zoras, Gorons, and other Hyruleans react to Link’s fishy face! Princess Ruto, for instance, will express her happiness that Link has “become a Zora.”

Gerudo Mask
How to Get It: This mask also becomes available to borrow for free from the Happy Mask Salesman after the main mask sidequest is completed.
Use: This mask makes Link look like a Gerudo woman, often leading to humorous reactions where NPCs might mistake Link for a girl. The game itself notes, “This mask will make you look like… a girl?” It’s purely for fun and observing NPC dialogue changes. Darunia will express his dislike for Gerudos (due to Ganondorf), while some Gerudo women themselves might be annoyed.
Biggoron’s Sword Trading Sequence: A Hero’s Errand
This lengthy but rewarding sidequest has Link acting as a delivery boy across Hyrule to obtain the powerful, unbreakable Biggoron’s Sword.

Pocket Egg
The start of the chain! Get this from the Cucco Lady in Kakariko Village as Adult Link. It will eventually hatch into a Pocket Cucco.

Pocket Cucco
Once hatched, use this little Cucco to wake up Talon at Lon Lon Ranch (again!).

Cojiro
After waking Talon, he gives you Cojiro, his prized blue Cucco. Cojiro has stopped crowing. Take him to the depressed guy (Grog) in the Lost Woods.

Odd Mushroom
Grog, overjoyed by Cojiro, gives you this mushroom to take to the old hag (Granny) at the Potion Shop in Kakariko Village. You have a strict time limit!

Odd Potion
The old hag brews this potion from the Odd Mushroom. She asks you to deliver it back to Grog in the Lost Woods, but… (see below)

Poacher’s Saw
Returning to where Grog was, you find Fado, a Kokiri girl, who says Grog (the “weirdo”) left this saw behind. She asks you to return it to him, implying he was a poacher.

Broken Goron’s Sword
Take the Poacher’s Saw to the carpenter boss (Mutoh) in Gerudo Valley. He’ll swap it for the Broken Goron’s Sword, which can be reforged.

Prescription
Show the Broken Goron’s Sword to Biggoron atop Death Mountain. He’s got eye trouble and gives you a prescription to take to King Zora.

Eyeball Frog
King Zora, now unfrozen, gives you this highly sensitive Eyeball Frog to deliver to the scientist at Lake Hylia. You have a very short time limit for this one!

World’s Finest Eye Drops (Biggoron’s Eye Drops)
The scientist at Lake Hylia uses the Eyeball Frog to create these potent eye drops for Biggoron. Another strict time limit to get them back to him while they’re still effective!

Claim Check
After applying the eye drops, Biggoron needs a few days to craft his masterpiece. He gives you this Claim Check. Wait a few days (play the Sun’s Song a few times) and present it to receive your reward!
Equipment Subscreen: Gear Up for Adventure!
These are the core pieces of equipment that define Link’s combat prowess and his ability to navigate Hyrule’s diverse environments.
Swords: The Blade of Evil’s Bane and More

Kokiri Sword
Link’s first sword, a gift from the Kokiri. It’s essential for navigating the Deku Tree and fending off early threats. Though humble, it’s a symbol of Link’s courage.

Master Sword
The legendary Blade of Evil’s Bane! Link pulls this sacred sword from the Pedestal of Time in the Temple of Time, an act that seals him away for seven years. Only the Master Sword can truly defeat Ganondorf.

Biggoron’s Sword
The result of the long trading sequence, this massive two-handed sword is the most powerful blade in the game and, unlike the Giant’s Knife, it never breaks. It’s a bit slower but hits incredibly hard.

Giant’s Knife (replaced with Biggoron’s Sword)
A powerful but fragile two-handed sword that can be purchased from Medigoron in Goron City. It deals significant damage but breaks after only a few hits. The Biggoron’s Sword is its superior, permanent replacement.

Broken Giant’s Knife (replaced with Biggoron’s Sword)
What remains after your expensive Giant’s Knife shatters. A sad reminder to invest in the Biggoron’s Sword quest!
Shields: Protection Against Foes

Deku Shield
Young Link’s first line of defense. Made of wood, it can block projectiles and weaker attacks but will burn if it comes into contact with fire. Purchase it in the Kokiri Shop or find it.

Hylian Shield
A sturdy metal shield that offers superior protection compared to the Deku Shield and won’t burn. Adult Link can use it, and Young Link can use it like a turtle shell (though he can’t move).
Purchase it in shops or find one for free in the Kakariko Graveyard.

Mirror Shield
This ornate, reflective shield is found in the Spirit Temple. It can reflect energy-based attacks, solve light puzzles, and is crucial for defeating certain enemies.
Tunics: Threads of Courage and Protection

Kokiri Tunic
Link’s iconic green tunic, standard Kokiri attire. It offers basic protection but no special resistances.

Goron Tunic (Heat-Resistant Tunic)
This vibrant red tunic, a gift from a grateful Goron (often Link the Goron in Goron City), protects Adult Link from the intense heat within Death Mountain Crater and the Fire Temple.

Zora Tunic
A stylish blue tunic obtained from King Zora after unfreezing him (or purchased). It allows Adult Link to breathe indefinitely underwater, making exploration of aquatic environments like the Water Temple possible.
Boots: Traverse Any Terrain

Iron Boots
Heavy and slow, these boots allow Link to sink to the bottom of bodies of water, walk against strong currents (like in the Shadow Temple’s fans), and press down heavy switches. Found in the Ice Cavern.

Hover Boots (Sacred Feet)
These magical boots, found in the Shadow Temple, allow Link to hover for a short period after walking off a ledge. They are essential for crossing gaps and navigating treacherous terrain but offer very little traction.
Bullet Bags (For Fairy Slingshot Seeds)

Bullet Bag (Deku Seeds Bullet Bag)
This initial bag holds Deku Seeds for your Fairy Slingshot. Starts with a capacity of 30 seeds

Bigger Bullet Bag
An upgrade that increases your Deku Seed carrying capacity to 40. Often a prize from shooting galleries or Deku Scrub challenges.

Biggest Bullet Bag
The final upgrade, allowing Link to carry a maximum of 50 Deku Seeds. Another reward for marksmanship.

Big Bomb Bag
An upgrade that increases Bomb capacity to 30. Often a reward from the Bombchu Bowling Alley or a Goron.

Biggest Bomb Bag
The final Bomb Bag upgrade, letting Link hold a maximum of 40 Bombs. Another prize for completing challenges.
Wallets (For Rupees)

Adult’s Wallet
Allows Link to carry up to 200 Rupees. Young Link starts with a Child’s Wallet (99 Rupees). You’ll get the Adult’s Wallet by collecting 10 Gold Skulltula tokens and breaking the curse on one of the Cursed Rich Family members in the House of Skulltula in Kakariko Village.

Giant’s Wallet
The largest wallet, enabling Link to carry up to 500 Rupees. Obtained by collecting 30 Gold Skulltula tokens and breaking another curse.
Strength Enhancements: Unleash Your Inner Power

Goron’s Bracelet
As Young Link, Darunia gives you this bracelet, allowing you to pick up Bomb Flowers and toss them. Essential for opening Dodongo’s Cavern.

Silver Gauntlets (Power of Silver / Silver Hands)
Found in the Spirit Temple as Adult Link (past). These gauntlets grant Link the strength to push massive silver blocks.

Golden Gauntlets
An even more powerful strength upgrade found in Ganon’s Castle (Spirit Trial room). These allow Link to lift colossal black pillars, granting access to the final areas and secrets.
Diving Scales: Explore the Depths

Silver Scale
As Young Link, win this from the diving game in Zora’s Domain. It allows Link to dive deeper underwater (6 meters), necessary to reach the entrance to Lake Hylia from Zora’s Domain.

Golden Scale
A further upgrade to Link’s diving ability (9 meters). Obtained by catching a massive fish in the Fishing Pond as Adult Link or by winning the adult diving game. This allows access to more underwater secrets, including a Heart Piece in the Lakeside Laboratory.

Adds 5 arrows to your quiver. (There are different sized bundles; some might add 10 or 30 depending on the context or specific treasure chest). The list specifies three types, likely representing different quantities found in the game, e.g., 5, 10, and 30 arrow bundles.
