Changing Outfits
Use: Zelda can wear any outfit she owns. Open the menu with + and go to the Equipment tab (the shirt icon). Accessories fill the top of the screen and your outfits sit in the Clothing row below them. Highlight an outfit to read its description, then press A (Equip) to put it on. The outfit you’re wearing has a green check mark. Outfit changing unlocks after completing Still Missing. From then on, you can change at any time, and new outfits go into the Clothing row as soon as you get them.
Which outfits do something: there are 11 outfits, and only four have an effect. The Silk Pajamas make your hearts recover faster while Zelda rests on a bed. The Dancing Outfit increases your spin area. The Cat Clothes and Black Cat Clothes let you speak with cats, which you need for Questioning the Local Cats. The other seven (Disguise, Royal Travel Attire, Customary Attire, Blue Attire, Green Tunic, Red Tunic and Stamp Suit) only change how Zelda looks. Outfits don’t show an effect label the way accessories do, so the effect is given in the description text.
All Outfits
Disguise
Use: “This hooded outfit conceals your identity. It’s comfortable and easy to move in.” It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: this is Zelda’s first outfit and you can’t miss it. During the escape at the start of the game, Impa meets Zelda in the Hyrule Castle dungeon. She recognizes the blue cloth Zelda is carrying as the cloak the swordsman was wearing and has Zelda change behind a statue: “You got a disguise!” Zelda wears it in Suthorn Forest and until she gets the Royal Travel Attire. Royal Travel Attire
Use: “Noble attire passed down through the royal family. It fits perfectly and is well suited for a long journey.” It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: this is a story outfit that you can’t miss, and it has no “You got” box. At the end of the Still Missing main quest, the King of Hyrule tells Impa: “It is time. Provide Zelda with the garments.” Impa takes Zelda aside, and she comes back to the throne room wearing it. The King calls them her “ancestral vestments”, passed down through the royal family. Customary Attire
Use: “A beautiful and elegant dress fit for a princess. Wearing it makes you feel regal.” This is Zelda’s own pink royal dress. It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: reward for the side quest From the Heart. Bring the little girl Romi safely back to the throne room. Once her family has thanked Zelda, the King says “Here, I would like you to have this dress back”: “You got some customary attire!”
Blue Attire
Use: “A beautiful and elegant dress fit for a princess. Wearing it makes you feel regal.” This is the same description as the Customary Attire, but the dress is blue. It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: amiibo only. Scan an amiibo from System → amiibo once amiibo outfits have unlocked, after the Still Missing main quest. The scan screen shows “You got blue attire!” It comes from a Princess Zelda or Sheik amiibo. See amiibo below.
Silk Pajamas
Use: “Comfortable sleepwear. Your hearts will recover faster as you rest on a bed.” Put them on before Zelda lies down on a bed to heal faster.
How to obtain: reward for the side quest Dohna’s Challenge in Gerudo Town. Captain Dohna challenges you to steal the chest at the far end of the treasury on the second floor of Gerudo Palace. Sneak past the guards (summoned clouds block their view) and open the chest in the last room: “You got some silk pajamas!”
Dancing Outfit
Use: “Traditional Gerudo dance wear. It’s easy to move in and increases your spin area.” Zelda’s spin attack covers a wider area while she wears it.
How to obtain: play Mango Rush at the Tough Mango Plant Lab in the Gerudo Desert oasis using the Ultimate seeds (offered on a later visit), and harvest 60 or more of the 70 mangoes. The researcher says “I’ve got something special for you. It’ll make your spins more effortless”: “You got a dancing outfit!” See Minigames.
Cat Clothes
Use: “An odd getup that lets you speak with cats. It’s a must-have for feline fans everywhere.” While Zelda wears them, you can talk to cats.
How to obtain: you get these partway through the Kakariko Village side quest Questioning the Local Cats. The young woman who bought the village shop’s cat clothes buried her secret stash by the windmill, under a cat that won’t move. Get the cat out of the way, dig up the stash with a Holmill echo, and she gives you the outfit: “You got some cat clothes!” Put it on to question the village cats about the old man’s missing cat.
Black Cat Clothes
Use: “An odd getup that lets you speak with cats. It’s a must-have for feline fans everywhere.” This black version works just like the Cat Clothes.
How to obtain: amiibo only. Scan an amiibo from System → amiibo once amiibo outfits have unlocked, after the Still Missing main quest. The scan screen shows “You got black cat clothes!” It comes from a Ganon, Guardian, Bokoblin or Champion amiibo. See amiibo below.
Green Tunic
Use: “A tunic accented with a belt and a pointed hat. Wearing it fills you with courage.” Zelda dresses like the swordsman. It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: graduation present from the Slumber Dojo in Kakariko Village. Pass all 15 trainings. The last one, The Final Titans’ Gathering, opens after the 14th. The master then says “You have reached the end of the slumberer’s path” and hands it over: “As a little graduation present, take this handy-dandy outfit!” Then you see “You got a green tunic!” See Minigames.
Red Tunic
Use: “A tunic accented with a belt and a pointed hat. Wearing it fills you with courage.” This red version has the same description as the Green Tunic. It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: amiibo only. Scan an amiibo from System → amiibo once amiibo outfits have unlocked, after the Still Missing main quest. The scan screen shows “You got a red tunic!” It comes from a Link amiibo. See amiibo below.
Stamp Suit
Use: “A gift from the Stamp Guy. It proves that you completed the stamp rally.” Zelda dresses just like the Stamp Guy. It’s cosmetic and has no gameplay effect.
How to obtain: fill all five stamp cards (25 stamp stands). The Stamp Guy parachutes in at the stand that completes the last card and says “As promised, here’s YOUR reward”: “You got a stamp suit!” Any stand can be the 25th; the stamp rally can be finished in any order. See Stamps.
amiibo
Use: scanning amiibo gives Zelda free items, and it’s the only way to get the Blue Attire, Black Cat Clothes and Red Tunic.
How to obtain: open the menu with +, go to the System tab and choose amiibo. When it says “Please touch an amiibo to the NFC touchpoint”, tap a figure to the controller. The option is there from the start of the game. You can scan up to three times a day. After that the game says “You can use amiibo to receive items up to three times a day. Please try again tomorrow.” Early on, each scan gives a batch of five of a material, such as monster fangs, refreshing grapes or rock salt. After the Still Missing main quest ends in the throne room, a notice says “The variety of items you can receive from amiibo has increased”, and outfits can come from scans too. Scans still give material batches as well, such as rocktatoes, electro apples or radiant butter. Each outfit is tied to a particular kind of figure: Link (Red Tunic), Princess Zelda or Sheik (Blue Attire), and Ganon, Guardian, Bokoblin or Champion (Black Cat Clothes).
Tip: the material batches count toward the ingredient list for Smoothies, so use your three daily scans even after you have all three outfits.
