The Keaton Quiz is an optional trivia game about the people and places of Termina. Put on the Keaton Mask, cut a patch of moving grass, and Keaton asks you five questions drawn from a pool of thirty. Answer all five correctly and you earn a Piece of Heart the first time. Every question in the pool and its correct answer is listed further down this page.
Keaton greets you with a cheerful “Hee-hee-ho!” and says that Keatons recognize their own by the sheen of their tails, then puts you to a test. The questions are about the people and places you meet in the game, so a player who has talked to Tingle, Romani, Anju and the Indigo-Go’s already knows most of the answers, and the full list below covers the rest.

Where Keaton appears
In Majora’s Mask a Keaton shows up in only one way: it hides in a patch of rustling grass and comes out when you cut the grass wearing the Keaton Mask. There are three such patches, in North Clock Town, on Milk Road and, in spring only, in Mountain Village, and the quiz is the same at each.
The Keaton Mask is an old friend from Ocarina of Time, where it is the first mask in the Happy Mask Shop trading sequence: you borrow it, show it to the guard at the Death Mountain trail, who wants it for his son, and sell it for a few rupees of profit. The fox itself and the quiz belong to Majora’s Mask alone.
Getting the Keaton Mask
The Keaton Mask is free, not bought. From 1:00 PM on the Third Day, the Curiosity Shop owner waiting in the back room at Kafei’s hideout hands it over along with the Special Delivery to Mama. You reach the back room through the Laundry Pool. See Anju and Kafei for the hideout and the quest around it, and the Mask Collection Guide for how to plan the masks across cycles. Masks stay with you when you play the Song of Time, so you only have to earn the Keaton Mask once.
Summoning Keaton
Wear the Keaton Mask and cut into a patch of rustling grass, the clumps that sway on their own. Keaton pops out to start the quiz.
North Clock Town has a patch of rustling grass. It is the easiest of the three to reach, so it is the usual place to play.
Milk Road has a patch of rustling grass along the road between Termina Field and Romani Ranch. On the Final Day the boulder that blocked the road is gone.
Mountain Village has a third patch, but it only shows up once spring has returned, so defeat Goht first and visit the village in the same cycle.
Questions and answers
Keaton picks five of these thirty questions at random. The table below holds every question in the pool with its correct answer.
Every question gives three choices, and the wrong ones are plausible, so do not guess. Tingle’s age, for example, comes with 15, 25 and 35 as the choices, and 35 is right.
The questions fall into six groups, which makes them easier to learn. Tingle: age 35, right-handed, red trunks and the magic words Kooloo-Limpah. Romani and her ranch: bed at eight, up at six, a bow, one balloon, Epona’s Song, the name Grasshopper, three cows and one cucco in the barn. Cremia: she delivers her milk to the Milk Bar, which sells Chateau Romani. Clock Town: ten cow figurines, five mailboxes, a four-storey festival tower, the Carnival of Time, Mayor Dotour, the Stock Pot Inn and the Bomb Shop owner’s “Mama”. Anju: bad at cooking, quick to apologize, father named Tortus. Music and the rest: Lulu sings for a band of five, Mikau is a Zora, Darmani is a Goron, Jim leads the Bombers and Skull Kid plays the flute.

Rewards
After the fifth right answer Keaton hands over the prize and the game shows “You got a Piece of Heart!” The first perfect run gives you a Piece of Heart, and it counts toward the 52 on the Heart Piece Locations page. If you already own that piece, later perfect runs pay a Red Rupee, worth 20 rupees, so the quiz is also a small source of rupees. On the 3DS, later perfect runs give a Fishing Hole Pass instead, which matters only if you are comparing versions (see Version Differences).
A wrong answer ends the quiz at once: Keaton disappears and you get no prize. You have to start a new three-day cycle with the Song of Time before you can try again, so check an answer against the list on this page if you are unsure. The questions are picked at random each time, so a second attempt can bring a different set.
