“The Prime Energy and Null” quest marks the penultimate chapter in Zelda’s adventure, beginning after she has successfully obtained the sanctions from the three goddesses by completing the Eldin Temple, Faron Temple, and Lanayru Temple. With the true plans of the antagonist, Null, revealed, Zelda and Tri must venture into the mysterious Eternal Forest in search of the Prime Energy, the ultimate source of power, and hopefully locate the missing hero, Link.
The primary objectives of this quest are to navigate the enigmatic Eternal Forest, uncover the path to the Prime Energy, confront Null, and ultimately rescue Link from his captivity. This quest serves as the direct lead-up to the final confrontation, bringing together the key narrative threads and setting the stage for the climactic battle against the forces of darkness.
How to Complete The Prime Energy and Null Quest

Following the acquisition of the final Goddess Sanction, Zelda will awaken in her room at Hyrule Castle and learn about Null’s scheme to use an Echo of herself to claim the Prime Energy. Zelda must then travel to the Eternal Forest, located northwest of Hyrule Castle. Upon entering the forest, she will encounter General Wright and some soldiers.
Examining a nearby stone tablet reveals a cryptic message about six pedestals that need to be crowned with the power of echoes to open the path forward. Zelda can then obtain the Ancient Orb Echo from a nearby orb. The central puzzle of this section involves locating six hidden pedestals scattered throughout the Eternal Forest, following a triangular pattern depicted on the stone slab, and placing the Ancient Orb Echo on each one. Once all six pedestals are crowned, a pathway will open at the stone statue, leading deeper into the forest.
Zelda will then meet the sacred Deku Tree, who explains the situation and allows her to enter the Ancient Ruins below. Within the Ancient Ruins, the Prime Energy will split into three pieces, with Zelda and her evil Echo each claiming one, and the third vanishing into a void. Zelda must then enter this void, leading to the Stilled Ancient Ruins. After traversing this distorted realm, she will confront and battle the Echo of Zelda. Following her victory, Zelda will find Link encased in a crystal and must shoot it with an arrow to free him, completing the “Rescuing the Hero Link” quest. Finally, Zelda and Link will together enter the final dungeon, Null’s Body, for their ultimate confrontation.
Enemy Information
The journey through the Eternal Forest and the Stilled Ancient Ruins will pit Zelda against a variety of foes:
- Eternal Forest: Lynel, Level 2 & 3 Sword Moblins, Club Boarblins, Wizzrobes, Caromadillo, low-level Moblins, Rope, Spear Moblin, Deku Baba.
- Stilled Ancient Ruins: Peahats, Wolfos, Jabul-related monsters (Tanglers, Biri), Sand Piranhas, Freezards, Buzz Blobs, Giant Goponga Flower, Zirro, Lizalfos, Shadow monsters.
Puzzle Solutions
The primary puzzle in this quest involves locating and activating the six hidden pedestals within the Eternal Forest. The stone slab near General Wright provides a crucial clue in the form of a triangular diagram, indicating the general locations of the pedestals throughout the forest. Zelda must explore the forest, find each pedestal, and use the Ancient Orb Echo obtained near the stone tablet to crown them, demonstrating the power of echoes and her wisdom. Once all six pedestals are activated, the path to the Deku Tree and the Ancient Ruins will be revealed.
Boss Strategy
The significant boss encounter in this quest is the battle against the Echo Zelda within the Stilled Ancient Ruins. The Echo Zelda will engage in multiple phases, summoning waves of enemies from different regions of Hyrule. Utilizing powerful Echoes like the Lynel and the Hero’s Bow in Swordfighter Form will be crucial for dealing damage and controlling the summoned enemies. Players should adapt their strategies based on the types of enemies summoned in each phase, using bombs against slow-moving groups and focusing ranged attacks on the Echo Zelda when she is vulnerable. Defeating the Echo Zelda is necessary to proceed with the quest and ultimately rescue Link. The final boss of the game, Null, is encountered within Null’s Body, but specific strategies for that encounter are detailed in the guide for that final dungeon.
