Agahnim
Agahnim is a powerful sorcerer who initially served the King of Hyrule by dispelling various plagues afflicting the land, earning the trust of the royal family. However, he betrays this trust by assassinating the king and using his dark magic to brainwash the castle’s soldiers. His primary objective is to break the seal imprisoning Ganon in the Dark World by capturing the descendants of the Seven Sages, including Princess Zelda, and sending them into the Dark World. Link confronts Agahnim twice during his quest, ultimately revealing that Agahnim is a manifestation of Ganon’s power.
Ganon
Ganon is the primary antagonist seeking to conquer Hyrule. After obtaining the Triforce, his malevolent wishes transformed the Sacred Realm into the Dark World. In A Link to the Past, Ganon remains sealed within the Dark World, manipulating events through Agahnim to break free and extend his dominion over Hyrule. Link’s ultimate mission is to thwart Ganon’s plans by rescuing the Seven Maidens and defeating Ganon within his Dark World lair.
Link
Link is the courageous protagonist living with his uncle near Hyrule Castle. Awakened by Princess Zelda’s telepathic plea for help, Link embarks on a perilous journey to rescue her and save Hyrule from the clutches of Agahnim and Ganon. Throughout his quest, Link acquires various weapons, abilities, and powers, including the Master Sword, to overcome numerous challenges and restore peace to the realm.
Link’s Uncle
On the fateful night when Princess Zelda is captured, Link’s uncle arms himself to rescue her but instructs Link to remain at home. Disregarding this, Link follows him to the castle and discovers his uncle mortally wounded in a secret passage. Before succumbing to his injuries, Link’s uncle entrusts him with his sword and shield, setting Link on his heroic path to save Zelda and Hyrule.
Princess Zelda
Princess Zelda is the benevolent ruler of Hyrule and a descendant of the Seven Sages. She possesses the Triforce of Wisdom and has the ability to communicate telepathically. In A Link to the Past, Zelda is kidnapped by Agahnim as part of his plan to release Ganon from the Dark World. Throughout the game, she provides guidance to Link, aiding him in his quest to thwart Ganon’s evil ambitions.
Sahasrahla
Sahasrahla is a wise elder and descendant of the original Seven Sages. Residing near the Eastern Palace, he becomes Link’s mentor, offering sage advice and guidance. After Link retrieves the Pendant of Courage, Sahasrahla rewards him with the Pegasus Shoes, which grant increased speed and the ability to dash, aiding Link in his quest.
Seven Sages
The Seven Sages, also known as the Seven Wise Men, are ancient protectors who once sealed away the evil Ganon within the Dark World. In the events of A Link to the Past, their descendants, including Princess Zelda, are targeted by Agahnim to break this seal and release Ganon. Link’s mission involves rescuing these descendants, referred to as the Seven Maidens, to prevent Ganon’s return and restore peace to Hyrule.
