Items and Equipment

Your starter sword is a gift from Rusl, who also teaches you the basics with it in Ordon Village. You hand it to Talo when you rescue him so that he and Colin can get past the monkey to Ilia, and it is broken when King Bulblin captures the children. Wolf Link later finds the pieces and uses them to pick up the children’s scent.

After you escape Hyrule Castle with Midna, return to Ordon Village as Wolf Link and head to Rusl’s house. Use your senses to find a dig spot at the south-west corner, dig in and take the Ordon Sword from the chair. Rusl forged it for the royal family, with a blade inlaid with the horn of an Ordon goat. Midna carries it for you, and both it and the Ordon Shield are equipped automatically when you turn human. You can swap back to it at any time, but it does nothing against Zant or Ganondorf.

Complete the wolf trials in the Sacred Grove, then draw it from the pedestal in the ruined Temple of Time. It lifts the Twilight curse that makes you a wolf and is far stronger than the Ordon Sword. See the Master Sword chapter.

Collect the two Sols in the Palace of Twilight and place them on the pedestals at the palace entrance, and the Master Sword takes on their light and becomes the Light Sword. It cuts the dark fog in the palace and is much stronger against Twilit creatures. You need it for the Zant fight.

In the Enter the Twilight Realm chapter, Midna asks you to find a shield and a sword while you are still a wolf. Enter Jaggle and Pergie’s house from the roof and take the shield from the wall of the storage loft. It is made of wood, so fire burns it, and arrows from Bulblin archers stick in it, which you can pull out. If it burns up you cannot get another one like it, but the Wooden Shield below works the same way.

Malo Mart in Kakariko Village sells a Wooden Shield for 50 Rupees, and so does the Hot Spring Shop on Death Mountain, as a replacement for a burnt Ordon Shield. It is bigger than the Ordon Shield and has metal trim, but it is just as flammable and can catch arrows. If it catches fire, put it away to save it.

Buy it at Malo Mart in Kakariko Village for 200 Rupees; it is available before you enter the Goron Mines. A Goron merchant in Castle Town also sells it for 210. It is metal, so fire cannot destroy it, but unlike the wooden shields it cannot catch arrows, only deflect them. Buy it before Death Mountain, where flaming rocks destroy the Ordon Shield.

When you free Faron from the Twilight, the Light Spirit changes Link back into a human and into the green tunic of the Hero.

When you bring Prince Ralis safely to Kakariko Village, Queen Rutela’s spirit leads you into the graveyard. Follow her to the back, under King Zora’s tomb, and take the armor she gives you. It lets you breathe and swim underwater, and with the Iron Boots you can walk along riverbeds. The cost is that fire and ice hurt much more while you wear it. See the Lake Hylia chapter.

Return to Ordon Village after Kakariko Gorge and win sumo matches against Mayor Bo in his house; he hands over the boots. They sink you in water, let you walk on magnetic surfaces and hold you down in strong wind. See the Death Mountain chapter.

Defeat Ook, the baboon mini-boss in the Forest Temple. It locks onto up to five targets, makes gales, fetches distant items and carries Bomblings.

Beat the mini-boss Dangoro in the Goron Mines. It works from horseback and on foot, comes with a 30-arrow quiver and combines with bombs for Bomb Arrows.

Defeat the Deku Toad in the Lakebed Temple. It pulls you to ivy and Clawshot targets and drags items to you.

Defeat the Death Sword mini-boss in Arbiter’s Grounds. You ride it along wall grooves and rails, use it to spin machinery and ram things.

Darkhammer drops it in the Snowpeak Ruins. It smashes ice, armor and cracked walls and keeps you planted in strong wind.

Defeat the Darknut in the Temple of Time. You steer the large statues of the temple with it and use them to smash enemies and press switches.

The Aeralfos in the City in the Sky guards the second Clawshot. You can then hang from one claw and fire the other.

Sera’s Sundries sells it for 30 Rupees, after you have returned her cat with two fish. It fires seeds and is mostly replaced by the Hero’s Bow.

Coro gives it to you free in South Faron Woods. It lights torches, burns webs and needs oil: Coro’s shop, Trill’s shop, oil pots in dungeons or Yellow Chu Jelly refill it.

A Wii U addition. Jovani gives it with the Great Fairy‘s Tears for 20 Poe Souls. It uses no oil and lights up when an uncollected Poe is near.

Return Uli’s cradle in Ordon Village and she gives you the rod. You use it to feed Sera’s cat and later to catch a Reekfish; the Coral Earring from Prince Ralis improves it. Hena’s canoe lends you a Lure Rod. See Fishing.

After you finish the Goron Mines, Talo offers a bow game in Kakariko Village: hit three targets to earn a Piece of Heart, and Malo Mart then sells the Hawkeye for 100 Rupees. Use it with the Hero’s Bow to zoom for long shots.

Barnes Bombs in Kakariko Village sells a bag of bombs (120 Rupees for a bag of 30) once the Gorons are trading again after the Goron Mines. Water Bombs and Bomblings fill other bags. Water Bombs open the Lakebed Temple. Bags: upgrades page.

Restore Ilia’s memory: Impaz in the Hidden Village gives you Ilia’s Charm, and when you show it to Ilia in Kakariko Village she remembers and gives it to you as the Horse Call, which summons Epona on open ground.

Ooccoo sits in a pot in every dungeon from the Forest Temple to the Temple of Time and waits for you in the Oocca shop in the City in the Sky. She warps you out of a dungeon, and Ooccoo Jr. returns you to the same room. They do not work in boss rooms.
