RewardOne warp symbol per frog, usable from anywhere at sea

There are six Golden Frogs in Phantom Hourglass: one in the Northwestern Sea, one in the Northeastern Sea, two in the Southwestern Sea and two in the Southeastern Sea. Hit a frog with the ship’s cannon and it holds up a sign showing a symbol. Draw that symbol on the Cyclone Slate later and a cyclone carries your ship straight back to the frog’s spot. The frogs are never part of the main story, but with all six marked you can skip most of the slow sailing between islands.

Getting the Cyclone Slate

The Slate comes from Golden Chief Cylos, a large yellow frog who lives on the Uncharted Island in the Northwestern Sea; the Northwestern Sea chapter covers the trip there. Once charted, the island’s outline is a spouting whale. Four talking stones on it (the Gossip Stones) ask you to hit them in the order of a riddle: it steers with a rudder, then makes spray, third it paddles, then sees a way. Read against the whale, that is the tail, the blowhole, the fin and the eye. Once the order is right, the way to the chamber opens, and Cylos hands you the Slate after a short chat about Oshus.

Cylos explains that his six “gilt minions” are spread over the seas and that each one knows a single symbol. Frogs only reveal their symbol once you carry the Slate, so collect it before you go hunting.

How to shoot a frog and warp to it

The frogs slip away unless you hit them with the ship’s cannon, so fire when one surfaces near the ship. A frog that is hit complains about the shot, then raises a wooden sign and tells you to draw its mark to return there. Every frog shows a different mark: a backwards N, an X over a triangle, a phi, an omega, a W and a squared-off Z. They are listed below by sea, and you can also jot each one on your Sea Chart with the memo pen.

To warp, open the menu while you are at sea and choose the Cyclone Slate. Draw one of the six symbols with the stylus on the touch screen. If the drawing matches, a cyclone forms and your ship leaps to that frog’s position. Each frog below lists what its warp is good for.

The six Golden Frogs

Northwestern Sea: between Bannan Island and the Isle of Gust

The frog in the north-west floats in open water between Bannan Island and the Isle of Gust. Its sign shows a zigzag, like a backwards N. The warp is the quickest way to reach Bannan Island, Zauz’s Island and the Isle of Gust.

Southwestern Sea: south of Mercay Island

The first southern frog is a short sail south of Mercay Island. Its sign shows an X drawn over a triangle. This warp is handy near the start: it puts you next to Mercay Island, the Isle of Ember, and Cannon Island.

Southwestern Sea: north of Molida Island

The second Southwestern frog sits north of Molida Island. Its sign is a lowercase phi: a loop with a straight stroke running through it. The warp saves a long trip back to Molida Island, where the Temple of Courage is.

Southeastern Sea: north of Dee Ess Island

This frog is in the Southeastern Sea, north of Dee Ess Island. Its symbol looks like a capital omega, an open loop with two feet. Use it to return to Dee Ess Island, home of the Goron game.

Southeastern Sea: northwest of the Isle of Frost

The last southern frog is northwest of the Isle of Frost. Its sign is a W with a bar across the top. The warp covers the Isle of Frost and Harrow Island, which is where the digging game is.

Northeastern Sea: south of the Isle of the Dead

The northeastern frog floats south of the Isle of the Dead. Its sign is a squared-off Z. The warp brings you close to the Isle of the Dead, Isle of Ruins and Maze Island.
