Skyward Sword has twelve side quests that pay Gratitude Crystals, and each one asks you to solve a small problem for someone on Skyloft or one of the nearby sky islands. They add up to 65 crystals, which is what Batreaux needs to reach his big rewards (see the Gratitude Crystals page). Pumm’s chores at the Lumpy Pumpkin are a separate set that pays a Piece of Heart. This page lists every quest with its giver, when it becomes available, the steps and the reward.

How they work
Find Kukiel comes first, and it opens every other crystal quest. After that, most quests become available as your story progresses, so check back in Skyloft after each dungeon. Many need a night visit, which you can reach by sleeping in your bed, and many need Scrapper, the robot from the Scrap Shop: when Fi asks whether to call him, say yes, and he will fly the object or person you found back to the Sky. Dowsing helps a lot, because Fi can set the target to the thing a quest-giver misses.

1. Find Kukiel
Giver: Wryna, near the Goddess Statue. Available: right after the Ruby Tablet is placed. Wryna’s daughter has vanished. Orielle sends you to Rusta at the Lumpy Pumpkin for the first clue.
Steps: at night, follow Rusta’s directions and push the tombstone in the graveyard, go down the passage, and meet Kukiel and the winged demon Batreaux, who cowers when you draw your sword and explains himself. Go back to Wryna in the morning. Reward: 5 crystals, and Batreaux’s collection begins.
2. Find Orielle
Giver: Parrow, in the Plaza. Available: after Find Kukiel, once you have spoken to Batreaux. Parrow’s sister has not come home.
Steps: fly to the small grassy island in the Sky where Orielle is stranded and waits beside her injured Loftwing. She sends you to Parrow, who gives you Mushroom Spores in a bottle; bring them to her. Reward: 5 crystals from Orielle and another 5 from Parrow when you return, plus the bottle itself, which is yours to keep once the spores are used.
3. Do You Love Me?
Giver: Peatrice, at the Item Check in the Bazaar. Available: after Find Kukiel, and it gets going once you have cleared the Lanayru Mining Facility. This quest runs over several days, because Peatrice starts talking about her feelings only after repeated visits.
Steps: keep talking to Peatrice and sleeping between visits until her dialogue stops changing. Talk to her father Peater (at night in Skyloft, or on Bamboo Island), then again after sleeping; later go to Peatrice’s house at night. Say you like her and she pays; say no and Peater pays you instead. Reward: 5 crystals either way.
4. Deliver a Letter
Giver: Cawlin, in the Knight Academy. Available: after your first fight with the Imprisoned. Strange noises from the Academy restroom are the first thread.
Steps: Cawlin gives you his love letter in the daytime. Either give the letter to Karane, who turns Cawlin down and ends up with Pipit, after which you find Cawlin miserable in Groose’s room; or, at night, give it to Phoeni, the ghostly hand in the restroom, who takes it and falls for Cawlin. Reward: 5 crystals either way.
5. Clean My House
Giver: Mallara, Pipit’s mother. Available: after the Lanayru Mining Facility gives you the Gust Bellows.
Steps: blow every patch of dust out of every room of her house with the Gust Bellows, then talk to Mallara again. Reward: 5 crystals and 20 Rupees. The job can be repeated for more Rupees.
6. I Want to Be Strong
Giver: Fledge, in his room at night. Available: after the Lanayru Mining Facility, and it finishes after the Sandship. Fledge feels weak and wants an energy drink.
Steps: buy a Stamina Potion from Luv (50 Rupees) and give it to Fledge at night. Come back later for a second one, then visit him again after the Sandship. Reward: 5 crystals and the Pumpkin Pull mini-game at the Sparring Hall.
7. Find My Party Wheel
Giver: Dodoh, on Fun Fun Island. Available: once Scrapper has been repaired. Dodoh lost the wheel of his party game.
Steps: dowse for the wheel in Lanayru’s South Desert; start from the Desert Entrance, strike the Timeshift Stone, climb the vines and shuffle along the ledge. Call Scrapper to take it back. Reward: 5 crystals and Dodoh’s High Dive, with a free first play.
8. Find the Baby’s Rattle
Giver: Bertie, in his house at night. Available: once you hold the Clawshots. The baby will not sleep without its rattle.
Steps: use the Clawshots to climb the floating islands near the Waterfall Cave to the one with the large pool, dive onto the bird’s nest on the small windmill, clear the dust with the Gust Bellows and take the rattle. Return at night. Reward: 5 crystals.
9. Find My Crystal Ball
Giver: Sparrot, the fortune teller, in his house on Skyloft’s east side. Available: after the Fire Sanctuary, when his crystal ball shatters.
Steps: dowse for the replacement orb above the Earth Temple entrance in Eldin, grab it with the Clawshots, call Scrapper and deliver the orb. Reward: 5 crystals and half-price fortunes (a fortune costs 10 Rupees, or 5 after this quest).
10. I Want a Rare Plant
Giver: Owlan, upstairs in the Knight Academy. Available: after you beat Bilocyte, around the time you learn Faron’s part of the Song of the Hero. He has run out of plants and wants a new specimen.
Steps: dowse for Oolo the Kikwi in Faron Woods. Call Scrapper to carry him to the Sky, then bring Oolo to Owlan. Reward: 5 crystals.
11. The Pumpkin Patch
Giver: Kina, at Pumpkin Landing. Available: after the Fire Sanctuary and the second Imprisoned fight, once you have finished Pumm’s chores. Kina needs a helper who is good at digging to plough her field.
Steps: revisit the tunnels of Eldin Volcano and dive in to reach the rock pillar where Guld, the Mogma elder, waits. Call Scrapper to carry him to the Sky, and speak to Kina. Reward: 5 crystals.
12. Find My Beetle
Giver: Beedle, on Beedle’s Island at night. Available: after Bilocyte is beaten and Levias is free. Beedle’s prized Horned Colossus Beetle has gone missing.
Steps: talk to Strich on Bug Rock; sleep at Beedle’s and speak to him about the missing beetle; then win the beetle back from Strich with a bug-catching challenge and return it to Beedle. Reward: 5 crystals and a half-price discount on one purchase.
The Lumpy Pumpkin jobs
Pumm, who runs the Lumpy Pumpkin on Pumpkin Landing, gives you chores to work off a broken chandelier. They do not pay crystals, but they are done before Kina’s plough quest, and they earn two Pieces of Heart in all. To start, go to the upper floor and roll into the balcony twice in quick succession; the chandelier falls and drops a Piece of Heart and some Rupees, and Pumm makes you work it off. The chores are to deliver Hot Pumpkin Soup to Knight Commander Eagus while it is still hot, to help Kina carry five pumpkins to the shed without dropping any, and, once you have the Goddess’s Harp, to accompany Kina at night by strumming along with the swaying arm of a customer.
Finishing the harp duet clears your debt and Pumm hands you the second Piece of Heart. The pumpkin carry (50 Rupees) and the harp performance (Rupees by how well you play) can be repeated for Rupees, as covered on the Mini-Games page. Kina’s plough quest follows once the Fire Sanctuary and the second Imprisoned fight are behind you.
Tips for finishing everything
Check Skyloft after each dungeon, because quests open in stages. Group the Scrapper deliveries when you can: Dodoh’s wheel, Sparrot’s orb, Kina’s Guld, Owlan’s Oolo. Finish Find Kukiel as early as you can, since every other quest waits for it, and keep a few Stamina Potions for Fledge.
