In the southeastern side of Castle Town, you’ll find a rather large house, right next to the fortune teller. This is Agitha’s castle. If you go inside and speak to Agatha, she’ll send you on a giant fetch quest for these things called “Golden Bugs”. These guys are scattered throughout Hyrule, and as such, they’re very hard to find. Fortunately, we’re here to help. Before setting off on your quest, however, take note that this guide is made for the Wii version of Twilight Princess, so things may differ from the Gamecube edition. On the Gamecube, the entire game is mirrored, so the directions in this guide would be backwards for those playing on it. Keep that in mind, and read on.
Tips
If you don’t want us to spoil the joys of finding these Golden Bugs for yourself, but still would like some help, here are some tips.
- Listen for the twinkling sound the Golden Bugs give off. This will give away their location.
- Typically, each Golden Bug pair are in close proximity with each other. If you find a male phasmid, for example, chances are the female is close by.
- When you bring the Golden Bugs to Agitha, make sure your wallet isn’t full. If it is, you won’t be able to reap the reward she oh so graciously bestows upon you.
- If a Golden Bug is out of your reach, use the Gale Boomerang or the Clawshot to pull it closer to you.
- Hunt at night. These bugs live up to their namesake and emit a faint golden glow. At night, this glow is very easy to spot, even from a distance.
Golden Bug Rewards: What You Get from Agitha
As you collect and deliver Golden Bugs to Agitha, she rewards you generously with Rupees — but she also reveals her strange, whimsical personality one bug at a time.
Bugs Delivered | Reward |
---|---|
First Bug (Any) | Big Wallet – Holds up to 600 Rupees |
Each Bug (1–12) | 50 Rupees |
Each Bug (13–23) | 100 Rupees |
Full Set (All 24) | Giant Wallet – Holds up to 1,000 Rupees |
Tip: Be sure to visit her again after delivering the full set — she offers unique dialogue when you’ve completed her collection!
How to Turn in Golden Bugs
Once you’ve caught a Golden Bug, head back to Agitha’s Castle in Castle Town (southeast side). Here’s how the process works:
- Enter Agitha’s house and approach her.
- Choose the option to give her a bug from your inventory.
- She’ll take it, thank you with a peculiar little rhyme, and give you a reward.
- If you have both the male and female of a species, she’ll react differently and complete that entry in her collection.
You can give her bugs one at a time, so don’t worry if you only have part of a pair — she’ll hold onto it and wait patiently for the match.
About Agitha: Hyrule’s Princess of Bugs
Agitha isn’t your average NPC. Though never confirmed to be royalty, she insists she’s hosting a grand ball and has invited all 24 Golden Bugs to attend. Her house is decorated with ornate, insect-themed furniture and banners, and she even refers to the bugs by affectionate nicknames.
Some fans speculate that Agitha is a forest spirit in disguise — or perhaps simply a quirky recluse with a passion for entomology. Whatever the truth, her character adds a unique flavor to Hyrule’s sidequest culture.
“If I had wings like a butterfly, I’d soar through the skies and dance with the wind…”

Mantis: Female
Hyrule Field (Lanyaru Province): To the south of Lanyaru Bridge, just past the giant tree stump, you’ll hear a faint twinkling sound. If you turn to the east and look up, you should see a Golden Mantis. Use your Gale Boomerang or Clawshot to get her in grabbing distance, then pick her up.
