- Chapter 18: The Final Battle
In The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, the climactic confrontation with Yuga Ganon unfolds in two distinct phases, each demanding strategic prowess and mastery of Link’s abilities.
Phase 1: Yuga Ganon’s Assault
Yuga, having merged with Ganon, wields a trident and exhibits a blend of both adversaries’ combat styles. The battle arena is a spacious chamber, allowing Yuga Ganon to teleport and execute a variety of attacks.
- Yuga Ganon performs broad horizontal slashes with his trident. These can be blocked with Link’s shield or evaded by moving out of range.
- He lunges forward with a stabbing motion. Sidestepping or circling around him can effectively dodge this attack. Yuga Ganon frequently teleports around the room. Stay alert to his reappearances to anticipate subsequent attacks.
- He hurls his trident across the room, which then returns to him. Maintain mobility to avoid its path.
- Yuga Ganon vanishes temporarily, causing energy orbs to rain down from above. Keep moving to evade these unpredictable projectiles.
Utilize Link’s shield to block direct attacks, especially the horizontal swipes. After dodging an attack, close the distance and strike Yuga Ganon, aiming for moments when he’s recovering from his moves. Remain vigilant for his teleportation to quickly adjust your positioning and prepare for his next move.
Phase 2: The Dead Man’s Volley and Wall Merging
Upon depleting half of Yuga Ganon’s health, he absorbs Princess Hilda, enhancing his power and initiating a more complex combat phase.
He conjures energy spheres and launches them at Link. Reflect these back by timing your sword strikes. The volley continues until Yuga Ganon is struck by his own orb, stunning him temporarily. After being stunned, Yuga Ganon merges into the wall as a painting. At this juncture, Princess Zelda grants Link the Bow of Light, usable exclusively while merged into walls.
Engage in the volley by striking the energy orb back at Yuga Ganon. Maintain focus, as the speed may increase with each exchange. Merge into the wall and shoot a Light Arrow directly at Yuga Ganon. This stuns him momentarily. Unmerge, move behind him, merge again, and shoot another Light Arrow to his back, forcing him out of the wall and rendering him vulnerable to sword attacks.
After the initial stun, Yuga Ganon may charge toward Link when shot at. To counter, unmerge as he charges, then quickly merge behind him and shoot a Light Arrow to his back.
Final Sequence:
Yuga Ganon becomes adept at blocking frontal attacks. To bypass this, while merged, shoot a Light Arrow in the opposite direction; the arrow will traverse the wall and strike his back, stunning him and allowing for final melee attacks.
By meticulously observing Yuga Ganon’s patterns and employing the Bow of Light strategically, Link can triumph in this ultimate showdown, restoring peace to Hyrule and Lorule.
