100% Completion Checklist

Reaching 100% in The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask means collecting every mask, Piece of Heart and upgrade and finishing every side quest and challenge in Termina. This page lists everything a full clear needs, starting with a totals table and then ten sections, so you can see what is left. Each list links to the page that explains how to get the entries.

I. Main Story and Dungeons

Defeat Majora on the Moon. To get there you need all four Boss Remains, the Oath to Order and the Final Night. The four temples each give a main item and a Heart Container.

Each temple also holds a Dungeon Map, a Compass and a Boss Key. The two mini-dungeons are optional but give gear that you need: Beneath the Well gives the Mirror Shield and the Ancient Castle of Ikana gives the Elegy of Emptiness (see the Ikana Canyon chapter). The four Moon trials hold the last 4 Pieces of Heart and lead to the Fierce Deity’s Mask.

II. Masks (24 total)

There are 4 transformation masks and 20 other masks. The Fierce Deity’s Mask is the reward for giving the 20 others to the Moon Children, so the Deku, Goron and Zora Masks are not traded. See the Mask Collection Guide for full instructions.

III. Pieces of Heart (52 total, 13 Heart Containers)

Every four pieces make a Heart Container. The counts by region are Clock Town 16, Termina Field 5, Romani Ranch 1, Southern Swamp and Woodfall 7, Snowhead 4, Great Bay 10, Ikana 5 and the Moon 4. The Heart Piece Locations page explains every one.

• Clock Town (16): Clock Tower balcony, Post Office counting game, Stock Pot Inn restroom hand, Deku Scrub Playground, tree in North Clock Town, Swordsman’s School, Rosa Sisters, mailbox with the Postman’s Hat, Town Shooting Gallery, Honey & Darling, Treasure Chest Shop, Anju’s Grandmother (two stories, two pieces), Mayor’s meeting, Bank, Keaton Quiz.
• Termina Field (5): Astral Observatory Business Scrub, Peahat Grotto, Dodongo Grotto, Water Grotto, four Gossip Stone Grottoes.
• Romani Ranch (1): Doggy Racetrack.
• Southern Swamp, Deku Palace and Woodfall (7): tree on the road, Swamp Tourist Center roof, Pictograph Contest, Koume’s boat cruise, Swamp Shooting Gallery, Deku Palace garden, Woodfall flower circuit chest.
• Snowhead and Mountain Village (4): Goron Village Business Scrub, thawed lake chest, invisible ice platforms, Frog Choir.
• Great Bay (10): Marine Research Lab aquarium, Zora Cape waterfall basin, Beaver race rematch, Zora Hall jam session, Lulu’s room Business Scrub, Pirates’ Fortress cage, Pinnacle Rock seahorse, scarecrow platform, Oceanside Spider House skull masks, Fisherman’s jumping game.
• Ikana (5): Night 2 grave, Business Scrub near Sakon’s Hideout, Spirit House, Ancient Castle pillar, Secret Shrine.
• The Moon (4): the Deku, Goron, Zora and Link trials.

How the 20 hearts add up

You start with 3 hearts. Each of the four bosses (Odolwa, Goht, Gyorg and Twinmold) drops a Heart Container, which takes you to 7. The 52 Pieces of Heart then make 13 more containers, which gives the full 20. The four Moon trials give the last four pieces, so you cannot reach 20 hearts before the end of the game.

The Title Deed chain (5 of the pieces)

Five of the pieces above come from one chain of Business Scrub trades that you must finish in a single cycle, because every deed is lost at the Song of Time. Give the Moon’s Tear to the scrub beside the Clock Tower for the Land Title Deed (Clock Tower balcony); trade it at the Swamp Tourist Center for the Swamp Title Deed (roof); in Goron Village for the Mountain Title Deed (ledge); as Goron Link in Lulu’s room in Zora Hall for the Ocean Title Deed (ledge); and as Zora Link beside Sakon’s Hideout in Ikana Canyon for a Huge Rupee (cliff). Bring the Deku Mask for every flower.

IV. Equipment Upgrades

See Items and Upgrades for the full details. Hero’s Shield, Kokiri Sword and the Child’s Wallet are the starting gear.

Also count the Hookshot (Pirates’ Fortress), the Lens of Truth (Goron Village), the Pictograph Box (Koume), the Powder Keg, Magic Beans and the four arrow types (Hero’s Bow plus the Fire, Ice and Light Arrows). The Great Fairies add the Magic Power meter (Clock Town), the Spin Attack upgrade (Woodfall), the doubled Magic Meter (Snowhead) and Double Defense (Great Bay).

V. Bottles (6 total)

The N64 game has six bottles. The Bottle Locations page gives the steps and the timing for each.

1. Red Potion bottle from Kotake at the Magic Hags’ Potion Shop, after you find Koume in the Woods of Mystery.
2. Bottle of Milk from Romani at Romani Ranch, for defending the barn on the First Night.
3. Bottle of Gold Dust, for winning the Goron Race once Snowhead is open.
4. Empty bottle from the Beaver Brothers, for winning both races at Waterfall Rapids.
5. Empty bottle from the Big Poe in the Ikana Graveyard on the Night of the Final Day.
6. Bottle of Chateau Romani from Madame Aroma at the Milk Bar, for the Special Delivery to Mama on the Final Day.

VI. Songs (13 total)

All 13 songs are in the N64 game, including the Song of Storms. The Ocarina Songs page gives the notes. Only the Scarecrow’s Song is lost when you reset the cycle.

1. Song of Time: Zelda’s memory when you get the Ocarina of Time back.
2. Song of Healing: Happy Mask Salesman in the Clock Tower.
3. Sonata of Awakening: the captive monkey in the Deku Palace.
4. Song of Soaring: Kaepora Gaebora at the top of the Deku shortcut points you to the song carved on a stone tablet.
5. Oath to Order: the Giant of Woodfall, after Odolwa (you learn it once, not after every boss).
6. Goron Lullaby: the Goron Elder, then the baby Goron in the shrine.
7. Epona’s Song: Romani at Romani Ranch, by winning her balloon game on the First Day (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM).
8. New Wave Bossa Nova: the hatched Zora eggs at the Marine Research Lab.
9. Song of Storms: Flat in the Ikana Graveyard on the First Night.
10. Elegy of Emptiness: Igos du Ikana in the Ancient Castle of Ikana.
11. Scarecrow’s Song: eight notes you compose for a scarecrow.
12. Inverted Song of Time: a scarecrow’s hints teach it.
13. Song of Double Time: a scarecrow’s hints teach it.

VII. Stray Fairies (61 total)

There is 1 Stray Fairy in Clock Town and 15 in each of the four temples, and each set has its own Great Fairy. See Stray Fairy Locations for the placements.

VIII. Bombers’ Notebook (20 entries)

The Bombers’ Notebook tracks 20 people. Filling the book means completing the event of each person in this list.

1. Bombers: catch the gang to get the hideout code and the Notebook.
2. Anju: the booking, the Letter to Kafei and the reunion.
3. Kafei: the Pendant of Memories and the Sun’s Mask.
4. Man from Curiosity Shop: Keaton Mask, Special Delivery to Mama and All-Night Mask.
5. Old Lady from Bomb Shop: the Blast Mask.
6. Romani: Epona’s Song and the bottle of milk.
7. Cremia: the cart escort and Romani’s Mask.
8. Mr. Dotour: a Piece of Heart at the Mayor’s meeting.
9. Madame Aroma: Kafei’s Mask and the Chateau Romani bottle.
10. Toto: the Milk Bar sound check.
11. Gorman: the Circus Leader’s Mask.
12. Postman: the counting game piece and the Postman’s Hat.
13. Rosa Sisters: a Piece of Heart for teaching them Kamaro’s dance.

Beyond the Notebook, a full clear also counts the 17 mini-games, the Swamp and Oceanside Spider Houses (30 spirits each), the five frogs of the Frog Choir and the hidden holes.

IX. Owl Statues and Tingle Maps

Hit each of the 10 Owl Statues with your sword to activate it for the Song of Soaring. The Game Maps page shows where they are.

Tingle sells six maps: Clock Town (5 rupees), then Woodfall, Snowhead, Romani Ranch, Great Bay and Stone Tower. Each costs 20 rupees in its own region and 40 rupees if you buy it from Tingle in a neighbouring region. He stands in six places, and each of the six maps can be bought in two of them, so you never need to backtrack. The Game Maps page has the full table.

X. 3DS Differences

None of these is needed on the Nintendo 64. If you are playing the 3DS remake, the total stays at 52 Pieces of Heart, but these entries change. The Version Differences page has the full list.

• There are 7 bottles instead of 6; the extra one comes from the Mystery Milk errand.
• Koume’s boat game gives a bottle and the Dampe graveyard dig gives a Piece of Heart on the Third Day, the reverse of the N64.
• The Stone Mask is held by Shiro inside the Pirates’ Fortress instead of on the Road to Ikana.
• The Woodfall and Snowhead Great Fairy rewards are swapped.
• The Giant’s Wallet can be won on the First or Third Day.
• Fishing holes are added; the Fishing Hole Pass is the later Keaton Quiz prize.
