Koholint’s Hidden Treasures: Your Guide to All 50 Secret Seashells!
Hey fellow adventurers! So, you’re diving into Link’s Awakening on the Switch? Awesome choice! Koholint Island is packed with secrets, but one of the biggest hunts is tracking down all those shiny Secret Seashells. They’re scattered *everywhere* – under bushes, buried deep, hidden in chests, sometimes even prizes!
Why Bother Collecting Them?
Good question! It’s not just about checking boxes. Haul your collection over to the Seashell Mansion (east of Ukuku Prairie), and watch it magically expand! Plus, you get some seriously cool rewards for hitting milestones:
- 5 Shells: Piece of Heart – Can’t argue with more health!
- 15 Shells: Seashell Sensor – This thing is a lifesaver, buzzing when a shell is nearby. Trust me, you want this.
- 30 Shells: Chamber Stone – For building wild dungeons with Dampé.
- 40 Shells: The Koholint Sword – YES! A major sword upgrade. Worth the hunt!
- 50 Shells: Another Chamber Stone – More dungeon-making fun!
Ready to snag ’em all? Let’s do this! I’ve organized them by area to make things a bit easier, numbered 1-50 as we go. Keep in mind, you might grab some in a slightly different order depending on your path!

Seashell #2: Trendy Game Prize (First Shell)
Location: Mabe Village (Trendy Game)
Need: Sword (to start), Rupees
Guide: First things first at the Trendy Game, you gotta win the Yoshi Doll (for the trading quest) and the Piece of Heart. Once those are out of the way, a Secret Seashell will pop up as a prize on the conveyor belt. Time your crane grab carefully – it can be a bit fiddly!
Seashell #3: CiaoCiao’s Dig Spot
Location: Mabe Village
Need: Shovel
Guide: Pop into CiaoCiao’s doghouse – yep, the little kennel next to Madam MeowMeow’s place where BowWow hangs out. Head to the bottom-right corner inside and get digging with that Shovel. Surprise Seashell!
Seashell #4: Toronbo Shores Dig Spot
Location: Toronbo Shores
Need: Shovel
Guide: Wander down to Toronbo Shores. Head towards the southeast edge of the main beach, near where you originally found your sword. See those trees by the cliff? Walk south past the lonely one and dig in the sand right up against the wall in the corner.
Seashell #5: Tail Cave Tree Dash
Location: Near Tail Cave Entrance (South of Mabe Village)
Need: Pegasus Boots
Guide: Just west of the entrance to the first dungeon, Tail Cave, there’s a single tree chilling all by itself. Get your run-up ready and slam into it with the Pegasus Boots! A seashell will shake loose.
Seashell #6: Toronbo Shores Palm Dash
Location: Toronbo Shores
Need: Pegasus Boots
Guide: Go way down to the southwest corner of the island, on Toronbo Shores. Spot the group of four palm trees? Three kinda in a row, one below? Ram into that lowest, solo palm tree with your Pegasus Boots. Ker-plink! Seashell.
Mysterious Forest & Goponga Swamp
Seashell #7: Mysterious Forest Boulder Chest
Location: Mysterious Forest
Need: Power Bracelet
Guide: Over on the west side of the Mysterious Forest, there’s a treasure chest being rudely blocked by a big boulder. Once you’ve snagged the Power Bracelet from Bottle Grotto, come back here, heave that rock outta the way, and claim your prize from the chest.
Seashell #8: Mysterious Forest Flower Patch Dig
Location: Mysterious Forest
Need: Shovel

Seashell #9: Mysterious Forest West Wall Dig
Location: Mysterious Forest

Seashell #13: Seashell Mansion Bushes

Location: Ancient Ruins
Need: Flippers (to reach), Bow (optional but helpful)
Guide: While exploring the Ancient Ruins on the way to the Face Shrine, look for four Armos statues huddled together near the north-central area. Seashell #41: Eagle’s Tower Ledge Chest
Location: Eagle’s Tower (Dungeon)
Need: Access to Eagle’s Tower
Guide: This one’s inside Eagle’s Tower itself, on the 1st floor (1F). When you get to the room with the Red Hinox miniboss, deliberately fall into one of the pits on the *left* side. You’ll land on a high ledge below. Walk north (up) on this ledge to find the treasure chest.

Seashell #45: Dampé’s Challenge Reward
Location: Dampé’s Shack (Chamber Dungeon)
Need: Complete Key Cavern, Shovel
Guide: After you beat Key Cavern (Dungeon 3), Dampé starts offering his Chamber Dungeon challenges. Beat four of his unique challenge tiers (the ones he gives you initially, not just random ones you build). Your reward for beating the fourth challenge is a Secret Seashell from the man himself!

Seashell #47: Rapids Ride Island Dig
Location: Rapids Ride Minigame Area
Need: Shovel, 100 Rupees, Hookshot (Recommended!)
Guide: Cough up 100 Rupees for the Rapids Ride. While you’re floating along, keep an eye out for a small island near the middle that looks empty. The best way to get onto it is using your Hookshot on the vines nearby as you drift past. Once you’re on the island, dig in the top-right corner with your Shovel.
Seashell #48: Rapids Race Reward
Location: Rapids Ride Minigame Area
Need: Flippers, 100 Rupees, Hookshot (Helpful)
Guide: Pay another 100 Rupees, but this time choose the “Rapids Race” (timed run). You gotta be quick! Finish the course in under 35 seconds to win. It might take practice – using the Hookshot on turns can help shave off time. Your prize? A well-earned Seashell.
Seashell #49: Fishing Pond Cheep Cheep
Location: Mabe Village (Fishing Pond)
Need: Complete Catfish’s Maw, Fishing Rod, Rupees
Guide: After clearing Catfish’s Maw (Dungeon 5), some new fish start showing up at the Fishing Pond. Keep casting your line until you spot and catch a red Cheep Cheep (yep, from Mario!). The Fisherman will give you a Seashell for reeling one in.
Seashell #50: Fishing Pond Large Blooper / Big Fish
Location: Mabe Village (Fishing Pond)
Need: Complete Catfish’s Maw, Fishing Rod, Rupees
Guide: That pesky white squid, the Blooper, also appears after Catfish’s Maw. Catching your first one usually gets you the *Heavyweight Lure*. But for this Seashell, you gotta land a *big one* – specifically, any fish that’s 100 cm (about 39 inches) or longer! It could be a giant Blooper, or even Ol’ Baron if you manage to hook him and he’s in the right size range!
And that’s all 50! Whew! With this list, you should be able to track down every last Secret Seashell and finally claim that awesome Koholint Sword. Congrats, and happy adventuring on Koholint Island!
