Samasa Desert and the Pirate Ship
Maku Tree Time: Chat with the Maku Tree in Horon Village.
(Optional) Trading Sequence Cont.:
- (Optional) Wooden Bird: Go to Spool Swamp (may need a specific season, often Spring/Summer). Find the witch Syrup’s shop inside a large tree/hut. Give the Mushroom to Syrup. She gives you the Wooden Bird.
- (Optional) Engine Grease: Go back to Horon Village. Go to the Clock Shop (house with a clock sign). Give the Wooden Bird to the Clockmaker. He gives you the Engine Grease.
- (Optional) Phonograph: Go to the snowy area near Snake’s Remains (requires Winter). Find the Phonograph dude Guru-Guru standing outside by the windmill. Give him the Engine Grease. He gives you the Phonograph.
To Samasa Desert: You need to reach the desert, located in the far southeast of Holodrum. Head south from Horon Village, through the Woods of Winter/Natzy, past Sunken City, and continue east. You may need to change seasons to get past obstacles. Find the entrance path to the Samasa Desert.
Pirate Trouble: In the desert, you’ll find a Pirate Ship stuck. Talk to the Captain. His crew is missing, scattered across Holodrum, turned into skeletons by Onox’s magic. He needs his Captain’s Bell to call them.
Finding the Bell: The Bell is usually located within the Subrosian Volcano or nearby Subrosian areas. Find a portal to Subrosia (there’s often one near the desert or requires specific season changes). Navigate Subrosia, likely needing the Magnetic Gloves to traverse lava gaps or move metal objects. Find the Rusty Bell within the volcano dungeon/caves.
Polishing the Bell: Take the Rusty Bell to the Subrosian Smithy. They will repair and polish it, turning it into the Pirate’s Bell.
Return the Bell: Go back to Holodrum and give the Pirate’s Bell to the Captain on the ship. He rings it, and his crew reforms! As thanks, they help you cross the Sea of Storms to the west. Board the ship!
Sea Crossing & Zora Seas: The pirates sail you west across the sea, dropping you off near the Zora Village / Zora Seas.
(Optional) Noble Sword / Master Sword:
- (Linked Game Only): If playing a Linked Game started after beating Oracle of Ages, completing the trading sequence up to the Phonograph leads to different results, often involving finding the [Secret] code for the Master Sword (L-2).
- (Regular Game / Trading Sequence End): Go to the Eastern Coast area (east side of Holodrum, south of the Tarm Ruins entrance). Find the dancing Subrosian. Play the Phonograph for him. He gives you the final item, usually the [Secret to Labrynna/Holodrum]. (In a non-linked game, this might just end the sequence or give a different minor reward). Some guides suggest this leads to the Noble Sword, but the primary way is via the Lost Woods upgrade.
- Noble Sword Upgrade (Primary Method): After getting the Magic Boomerang, return to the Lost Woods. Navigate them again until you find a specific screen (often requires a specific season). A Deku Scrub here will offer to upgrade your Wooden Sword if you prove your worth (usually by answering questions or completing a task). This upgrades your Wooden Sword to the Noble Sword (L-2)!
Accessing Dungeon 7: Navigate the Zora Seas area. You’ll need your Flippers to swim and dive. Find the entrance to the Explorer’s Crypt, often requiring you to dive into a specific whirlpool or underwater cave.

This replaces the Feather and allows you to jump farther (hold button) and glide briefly.

Reward: Grab the Heart Container. Go north and take the Essence of Nature – Seed of Life.
