To begin the “A Letter to Koyin” side adventure in Tears of the Kingdom, you’ll want to make your way to Hateno Village, located on the southeastern end of Hyrule. You can find the quest by speaking to Sefaro, a resident standing on the pier at Hateno Bay, just southeast of the village itself. She’s looking out at the water, worried about a bottle that never quite makes it to its destination. She tells you the letter inside is meant for Koyin, a girl who lives across the bay.
Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It:
After speaking to Sefaro, you’ll see the bottle bobbing in the water. The tricky part is that it keeps getting pushed away from shore, stuck in a looping current. To retrieve it, you’ll need to stop the bottle’s path before it floats too far. The most effective way to intercept it is by building a simple structure with Ultrahand—combine a few logs or wooden planks into a floating barrier and anchor it near the bottle’s usual path. If done correctly, the bottle will attach to the logs, allowing you to reel it in.
Once you have the bottle, open it and read the letter inside. It’s a heartfelt message addressed to Koyin, who can be found at Hateno Pasture just west of the bay. Make your way over there and speak with her. After hearing about the letter, Koyin agrees to respond—she’s clearly touched, and this closes out the quest.
You’ll be rewarded with a Silver Rupee (worth 100 Rupees) for your efforts, but the real value lies in the charming interaction and the scenic setting. This is one of those small but memorable quests that adds warmth to Hyrule’s open world and reminds you that even in a game full of epic battles and sky-high exploration, a simple message in a bottle still matters.
