What is Malo Mart?
Malo Mart starts as a small general store in Kakariko Village. While initially useful, its true potential unfolds through a series of optional donation quests that allow it to expand its reach and inventory.
Phase 1: The Kakariko Branch (Optional First Donation)
Speak to Malo inside the Kakariko Village store. He might mention needing funds. While not strictly necessary for the Magic Armor quest, donating 50 Rupees here can sometimes slightly lower prices in this initial store. The main quest involves the Castle Town expansion.
Phase 2: Expanding to Castle Town & Getting the Magic Armor
This is the core quest chain required to unlock the Magic Armor at a reasonable price.
Step 1: Repairing the Bridge to West Hyrule Field
Prerequisite: Must have cleansed the Twilight from the Eldin Province.
Speak to the Goron elder (Gor Liggs) inside the Kakariko Malo Mart. Gor Liggs needs funds to repair the broken bridge connecting Kakariko Village/Eldin Bridge to West Hyrule Field. He requires a hefty 1,000 Rupees. Give the 1,000 Rupees to Gor Liggs inside the Kakariko Malo Mart. The bridge will be repaired, allowing easier access between regions and enabling the next step.
Step 2: The Hot Springwater Delivery
Prerequisite: Bridge repaired (Step 1 completed).
Speak again to Gor Liggs inside the Kakariko Malo Mart after donating the 1,000 Rupees. He will give you a barrel of Hot Springwater. You must deliver this barrel of Hot Springwater to a tired Goron sitting outside the West Gate of Castle Town. This is a timed event! The water cools quickly. Exit Kakariko towards the Eldin Bridge, cross it into Hyrule Field. Immediately head towards Castle Town’s West entrance. Avoid enemies, as getting hit will likely make Link drop and break the barrel. Move quickly but carefully. Rolling might seem faster but increases the risk of hitting obstacles or enemies.
Successfully delivering the water revitalizes the Goron, who is key to the next step. If you fail, return to Gor Liggs for another barrel.
Step 3: Funding the Castle Town Malo Mart
Prerequisite: Hot Springwater delivered (Step 2 completed).
Find the revitalized Goron from Step 2. He will now be inside the building Malo intends to use for his shop in Castle Town’s main square (it looks expensive and initially has an attendant outside). Speak to the Goron inside. He now needs funds to actually open the Castle Town branch. The required donation is 200 Rupees. Give the 200 Rupees to this Goron inside the Castle Town shop building. As a result, the Malo Mart Castle Town branch officially opens!
Obtaining the Magic Armor
Location: The newly opened Malo Mart in Castle Town Square.
The Magic Armor is now available for purchase. Thanks to your efforts, the price is drastically reduced from an astronomical sum to a much more manageable (but still significant) 598 Rupees. When worn, the Magic Armor makes Link completely invincible to damage. However, it constantly drains Rupees from your wallet while active. If your wallet hits zero, the armor freezes Link in place, rendering him immobile and vulnerable until you take it off or gain more Rupees.
Tips and Notes
- Farming Rupees: You’ll need a total of 1,200 Rupees for the donations plus 598 for the armor itself (1,798 total minimum). Good Rupee farming spots include the Kakariko graveyard (killing Poes at night), completing Agitha’s bug quest for wallet upgrades, or exploring dungeons thoroughly.
- Armor Usefulness: The Magic Armor is fantastic for tackling tough combat challenges like the Cave of Ordeals or specific boss fights where taking damage is likely. Remember its Rupee cost!
- Optional Quest: This entire questline is optional for completing the main story but required for 100% completion and obtaining the Magic Armor.
Congratulations! By following these steps, you’ve helped Malo Mart become a Hyrule-wide sensation and earned yourself one of the most powerful pieces of equipment in the game.
