Echoes of Wisdom: Enemies

Welcome, brave adventurers, to the official Zelda Central bestiary for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. The land of Hyrule, in its timeless struggle against the encroaching darkness, is home to a vast array of cunning, ferocious, and downright strange creatures. From the common critters of the fields to the towering titans that guard the dungeons’ deepest chambers, this guide is your essential companion for identifying and dispatching the foes that stand in your way. Study their habits, learn their weaknesses, and prepare for battle!

Level 1 Enemies

These are the common foes you’ll encounter throughout Hyrule’s fields, forests, and budding dungeons. Don’t underestimate them; a lone hero can easily be overwhelmed by a swarm of even the weakest creatures!

Albatrawl

Albatrawl

A large, seabird-like creature that patrols coastal areas. It dives at high speed from the sky, attempting to spear you with its sharp beak. Keep an eye on the skies and be ready to dodge.

Armos

Armos

These living statues stand dormant, often disguised as ordinary decorations in ruins and dungeons. Draw too near, and they spring to life, hopping aggressively toward you. A bomb is often the most effective tool to shatter their stone exteriors.

Aruroda

Aruroda

A strange, shelled creature that moves slowly. When it senses danger, it retracts into its impenetrable shell. You’ll need a bomb to crack it open or flip it onto its back.

Baby Gohma

Baby Gohma

The larvae of the monstrous crustacean, Gohma. These small, one-eyed terrors attack in swarms, leaping at you and attempting to latch on. A spin attack is effective at clearing out a group of them.

Ball and Chain Trooper

Ball and Chain Trooper

These hulking brutes swing a massive ball and chain with devastating force, creating a wide, dangerous arc around them. Patience is key; wait for them to tire after a powerful swing to find your opening.

Beakon

Beakon

A large, toucan-like bird with a brightly colored, razor-sharp beak. It attacks with a powerful downward thrust. Sidestep its dive and strike while it’s momentarily stuck in the ground.

Beamos

Beamos

A classic dungeon security system. This stationary turret has a single, rotating eye that sweeps the room. If its gaze falls upon you, it will fire a powerful laser beam. An arrow to the eye will temporarily deactivate it.

Beetle

Beetle

Large, armored insects that charge in a straight line. Their hard carapaces can deflect frontal attacks. A common tactic is to sidestep their charge and attack their vulnerable sides.

Bio Deku Baba

Bio Deku Baba

A more dangerous, often mobile version of the Deku Baba. It can detach from its roots and chase you, spitting poison. Keep your shield up and look for an opening after it spits.

Biri

Biri

A small, jellyfish-like creature that floats through the air, often in dungeons. They are electrified and will shock you on contact. Like the Buzz Blob, they are best dispatched with a non-conductive weapon.

Bombfish

Bombfish

A seemingly normal fish that inhabits lakes and oceans. However, when threatened, it inflates and explodes. Keep your distance, or cleverly use their explosive nature to your advantage against other nearby foes.

Boomerang Boarblin

Boomerang Boarblin

These cunning Boarblins prefer to keep their distance, hurling large, sharpened boomerangs at their targets. Keep moving to avoid their ranged attacks and close the distance quickly.

Buzz Blob

Buzz Blob

This passive, jellyfish-like creature ambles aimlessly, discharging electricity if struck with a metal weapon. A smart adventurer uses a non-conductive weapon like a wooden stick or the Boomerang to stun it, revealing its vulnerable core.

Caromadillo

Caromadillo

This strange, armadillo-like beast curls into a hardened ball and ricochets wildly off walls and obstacles. It’s nearly invincible while rolling, so you’ll need to use bombs or a well-timed shield bash to stop it in its tracks and expose its soft underbelly.

Chompfin

Chompfin

A fast and aggressive fish with powerful jaws. They swim in schools and will leap out of the water to bite. They can be a real menace when you’re trying to swim.

Club Boarblin

Club Boarblin

A different branch of the goblinoid family, Boarblins are fierce, boar-faced monsters. This variant swings a heavy wooden club with surprising speed. Their attacks are powerful but leave them open if you can bait out a swing and dodge.

Crawltula

Crawltula

The land-based cousins of the Strandtula, these spiders skitter along the ground and walls. They are fast and can be hard to track in dark areas.

Crow

Crow

More aggressive than your average bird, these crows will perch and wait for the perfect moment to swoop down and attack. A quick shield block or sword swing can easily fend them off.

Darknut

Darknut

The heavily armored knights of the underworld. Darknuts are walking fortresses, their thick plate mail repelling all but the most powerful of blows. The key to defeating them is finding a way to remove their armor, often piece by piece, until their vulnerable body is exposed.

Deku Baba

Deku Baba

A carnivorous plant that lunges from its stem to bite. A simple horizontal slash will sever its head, but be ready for it to regrow. A vertical slash down the stem will kill it permanently.

Drippitune

Drippitune

A water-logged version of the Ribbitune, this amphibian spits powerful jets of water and can create slippery puddles to impede your movement. They are highly susceptible to electric attacks.

Electric Keese

Electric Keese

Crackling with electrical energy, these bats will shock you and can cause you to drop your weapon. Their unpredictable flight paths make them a priority target in any encounter.

Electric Wizzrobe

Electric Wizzrobe

Perhaps the most dangerous of the Wizzrobe family, these mages summon powerful thunderstorms and bolts of lightning. Their attacks have a wide area of effect, forcing you to stay mobile.

Fire Keese

Fire Keese

Wreathed in flames, these Keese will set you ablaze on contact. Be careful when attacking them with a wooden shield! An arrow is the safest bet.

Fire Octo

Fire Octo

Found in volcanic lakes, this Octorok spits balls of fire instead of rocks. The same shield-reflection strategy works, but be prepared for a fiery explosion.

Fire Wizzrobe

Fire Wizzrobe

These impish sorcerers teleport around the battlefield, making them incredibly difficult to pin down. They unleash volleys of fire magic from a distance. Use the environment for cover and strike quickly when they materialize.

Freezard

Freezard

A creature made of pure ice. It remains stationary, exhaling a constant stream of freezing air that can turn you into a human ice cube. A fire-based weapon is the only thing that will melt it.

Freeze Slug

Freeze Slug

The polar opposite of the Torch Slug, this icy gastropod freezes everything it touches. A blast of fire will melt its defenses and leave it exposed.

Ghini

Ghini

A one-eyed ghost that often haunts graveyards. They are typically passive until you disturb a gravestone, at which point they will swarm you. Defeating the “real” Ghini that first appeared will cause all the others to vanish.

Ghirro

Ghirro

A more formidable version of the Zirro, the Ghirro is faster, more aggressive, and can fire projectiles from its stinger. Prioritize dodging its ranged attacks before attempting to counter.

Giant Goponga Flower

Giant Goponga Flower

A massive, carnivorous flower that snaps at anything that comes near. It’s too large to be defeated by conventional means. You’ll often need to find a way to feed it a bomb to clear it from your path.

Gibdo

Gibdo

The mummified dead of Hyrule’s ancient tombs, Gibdos shamble slowly but relentlessly towards their prey. Their eerie moans can paralyze you with fear, leaving you open to attack. They are highly flammable and weak to fire.

Goo Specter

Goo Specter

A formless, spectral ooze that slithers along the floors and walls of cursed locations. It can reach through barriers to strike and is resistant to physical attacks. Magic is often your only recourse.

Guay

Guay

These malevolent, single-eyed birds fly high above, tracking your movements. They attack by dropping projectiles or their own corrosive droppings. An arrow is the most reliable way to bring them down.

Gustmaster

Gustmaster

A mischievous air elemental that creates localized windstorms to push you off ledges or into hazards. You can’t fight the wind directly, but using the Iron Boots can help you stand your ground.

Hoarder

Hoarder

A devious creature that disguises itself as a treasure chest. When you approach, it springs to life and attacks, trying to steal your precious rupees! Always be suspicious of a chest in an unusual location.

Holmill

Holmill

A tricky, ghost-like enemy that often hides in walls and floors. It emerges to swing its single, large hand at you before retreating into solid matter. Time your attacks for the brief moment it becomes tangible.

Hydrozol

Hydrozol

Found lurking in lakeside caves and damp dungeons, the Hydrozol is a water-logged cousin to the Zol. While not as overtly aggressive as the Ignizol, their slippery nature can make them tricky targets. They are, as you’d expect, vulnerable to electrical attacks.

Ice Keese

Ice Keese

These frigid bats will freeze you solid if they touch you. Like their fiery counterparts, they are best dealt with from a distance.

Ice Octo

Ice Octo

This arctic Octorok variant shoots chunks of ice that can freeze you on impact. Reflecting their projectiles is still effective, though dodging and using your own fire attacks works wonders.

Ice Wizzrobe

Ice Wizzrobe

Similar to their fiery cousins, Ice Wizzrobes use hit-and-run tactics but with freezing magic that can stop you in your tracks. Equip gear with freeze resistance or use fire-based attacks to melt their icy defenses.

Ignizol

Ignizol

A fiery variant of the common Zol, the Ignizol thrives in volcanic regions and hot caverns. These searing slimes can leave a trail of fire and will inflict a burn on contact. Keep your distance and consider using ice-based attacks for a quick victory.

Keese

Keese

The quintessential cave-dwelling pest. These bats fly erratically and attack in swarms, making them a nuisance in tight quarters. A quick slash or an arrow is all it takes to down one.

Leever

Leever

These creatures burrow up from the ground in sandy or loose soil, spinning towards you before digging back down. It’s often better to avoid them than to fight them, as they are numerous and endlessly respawn.

Lizalfos

Lizalfos

Wiry, agile, and incredibly fast, these lizard-like humanoids are a constant threat. They can leap great distances, spit projectiles, and attack with sharp claws or crafted weaponry. Watch their movements closely to predict their erratic patterns.

Lynel

Lynel

One of the most fearsome beasts to roam the open world. Lynels are powerful, centaur-like creatures possessing immense strength, speed, and a mastery of various weapons. Engaging a Lynel is a true test of skill, requiring perfect dodges and parries. Approach with extreme caution.

Mini-Moldorm

Mini-Moldorm

The smaller, segmented spawn of the classic dungeon boss. These worms move erratically and are difficult to hit. Your best bet is to strike their head, as hitting their body segments will just knock them back.

Moa

Moa

These ghostly apparitions fly in set patterns within dungeons, often passing through walls. They are invulnerable to most attacks, serving more as spiritual obstacles than direct combatants. Special items or light-based magic are often needed to deal with them.

Mothula

Mothula

A giant moth that fires beams of energy from its eye. It flies just out of reach, forcing you to use ranged weapons or wait for it to swoop down. Be wary of the poisonous dust it sheds from its wings.

Needlefly

Needlefly

These oversized dragonfly-like insects are incredibly fast and aggressive. They attack with a sharp, needle-like stinger. Their speed makes them difficult to hit with a sword, so projectiles are recommended.

Octorok

Octorok

A classic Hyrulean pest, this octopus-like creature spits rocks from its snout. They often hide in water or behind bushes. The easiest way to defeat them is to reflect their own projectiles back at them with your shield.

Pathblade

Pathblade

A magical trap often found in ancient ruins. These enchanted blades are set on a fixed path, sliding out from walls or floors to guard a specific area. They are indestructible, requiring you to observe their patterns and time your movements perfectly to pass.

Peahat

Peahat

These strange, plant-like creatures have propeller-like leaves on their heads that allow them to fly. They are docile during the day but become aggressive at night. They are invincible while flying; you must wait for them to land to damage their vulnerable root-body.

Piranha

Piranha

The classic flesh-eating fish. A swarm of Piranhas can strip a hero to the bone in seconds. Avoid blood in the water! If you must fight them, use ranged attacks from the safety of a raft or shoreline.

Platboom

Platboom

A strange, flat creature that lies on the ground like a living landmine. If you step on it, it will detonate after a short delay. You can trigger them from a distance with an arrow and use their explosion against other enemies.

Poe

Poe

The lingering spirits of the dead, found in graveyards and haunted ruins. They carry a lantern and will often disappear and reappear to swipe at you. They are intangible and can only be damaged when they become solid to attack.

ReDead

ReDead

A horrifying creature that shares the Gibdo’s paralyzing screech but is far more agile. Once you’re frozen in terror, a ReDead will latch on and drain your health. Keep your distance and use ranged attacks if possible.

Ribbitune

Ribbitune

Found near water, these large, frog-like enemies use powerful sound waves to attack. Their croaks can disorient you and even repel projectiles. Attack them between their vocal assaults.

Rope

Rope

Don’t be fooled by the simple name; these snake-like creatures are incredibly fast. Once they spot you, they make a beeline in your direction. A quick sword slash is all it takes, but their speed can catch you off guard in a crowded room.

Scuttling across the desert sands, these crabs burrow to hide and then emerge to attack with their powerful pincers. Stun them with a heavy weapon to stop their skittering.

Sand Piranha

A truly terrifying desert predator, this creature “swims” through sand as if it were water. It will circle you before erupting from the ground to attack. Keep moving and listen for its approach.

Sea Urchin

Sea Urchin

These spiky creatures are a common hazard in shallow waters. They are stationary but will damage you on contact. They are often invincible to direct attacks, requiring a tool to safely remove them.

Snomaul

Snomaul

A walrus-like beast found in arctic regions. It slides across the ice at high speed, attempting to ram you with its large tusks. Dodge its slide and attack it from the side or rear.

Spark

Spark

An orb of pure electricity that endlessly circles the perimeter of a room or object. They are invincible and deadly to the touch. Avoid them at all costs.

Spear Moblin

Spear Moblin

The grunt of the Moblin army, these brutish pig-like soldiers patrol key routes, armed with long spears. They have a decent reach, so time your dodges carefully before moving in for the kill.

Strandtula

Strandtula

These large spiders hang from the ceiling on a single, strong strand of silk, waiting to drop on unsuspecting prey. Look up often in forests and caves, and sever their silk strand with a projectile to bring them crashing down.

Sword Moblin

Sword Moblin

A step up from their spear-wielding brethren, Sword Moblins are more aggressive and will charge you on sight. A well-timed parry will open them up for a devastating counter-attack.

Tangler

Tangler

A plant-like enemy with long, vine-like appendages. It hides in tall grass or underwater, lashing out to grab and constrict you. Cut its vines quickly to escape its grasp.

Tektite

These one-eyed, spider-like creatures jump erratically over the terrain, making them difficult to predict and hit. The best strategy is to wait for them to land before striking.

Temper Tweelus

Temper Tweelus

A fiery version of the Tweelus found in volcanic waters. Instead of a simple bite, it spits a small fireball. The same strategy of breaking its home applies.

Tornando

Tornando

A bizarre, swirling creature of pure wind. Tornandos whip across the landscape, pulling in anything that gets too close. You can’t harm the wind itself, but an arrow to the glowing eye at its center will dissipate it.

Torch Slug

Torch Slug

These slow-moving slugs are literally on fire. They leave a trail of flames and can cause a nasty burn. A dousing of water or an ice attack will extinguish their flame, making them vulnerable.

Tweelus

Tweelus

A small, fish-like creature that hides in underwater pots. When you get close, it pops out to take a bite. Break the pot it’s hiding in to leave it vulnerable.

White Wolfos

Zol

Zol

A classic nuisance, these gelatinous blobs emerge from the very soil to ambush unwary travelers. A single, well-placed sword strike is usually enough to dispatch them, but be wary of the Gel they sometimes leave behind!
