Table of Contents
Young Link’s Quest for Heart Pieces
Get ready to explore Hyrule as the energetic kid hero!
Lost Woods
Hyrule Market (As Young Link, at Night)
Richard’s Rescue
When night falls, visit the Hyrule Castle Town Market. In one of the back alleys (often near the future Bombchu Bowling Alley), a distressed woman is looking for her lost dog, Richard. Richard is the white dog, often found happily trotting around the main market square near the stalls. Carefully scoop him up and return him to his owner. She’ll reward your kindness with a Piece of Heart.
Treasure Chest Gamble (Lens of Truth Recommended)
Test your luck (or skill!) at the Treasure Chest Shop, open only at night. Pay the fee and choose one of two chests. One holds a Rupee, the other the key to the next room. Successfully navigate through several rooms to win a Piece of Heart. To save Rupees and frustration, come back once you have the Lens of Truth. It makes this game a breeze!
Bombchu Bowling Bonanza (Requires Bombs)
The Bombchu Bowling Alley (open during the day) offers a Piece of Heart as one of its random prizes. You’ll need to successfully guide Bombchus past obstacles to hit the target at the end of the alley. Win the prize rotation that includes the Heart Piece. Good luck!
Kakariko Village
Cow in the Cage
Remember Impa’s house (the large one near the well)? There’s a cow inside a fenced area. You can’t reach it directly. Instead, go into the Cucco Lady’s house. Pick up a Cucco, head outside, and go up the stairs near the construction site. From the wooden platform, make a short flight over the fence to the area where a man is sitting on a ledge. From that ledge, look towards Impa’s house. You’ll see an opening. Carefully jump/glide with the Cucco into this opening. Inside, you’ll find the cow and a Piece of Heart.
Kakariko Graveyard
ReDead’s Tomb
In the first row of graves, pull back the one with flowers in front of it (it’s the second from the right if facing the Royal Tomb, or fourth from the left). Drop into the hole. You’ll encounter a ReDead. Defeat it, then stand on the stone platform and play the “Sun’s Song.” A chest containing the Piece of Heart will appear.
Dampe’s Digging Spree (Nighttime)
Visit Dampe the gravedigger in his hut at night (between 18:00 and 21:00 Hyrule Time). Pay him 10 Rupees to participate in his “Heart-Pounding Gravedigging Tour.” He’ll dig in random soft soil spots. One of these spots will randomly yield a Piece of Heart. Keep trying; it might take a few attempts!
Goron City
Spinning Urn Surprise (Requires Bombs/Bomb Flowers)
Head to the lowest level of Goron City where a giant urn sits in the center. Light all the torches in this area using Deku Sticks. The giant urn will begin to spin. Ascend to one of the higher levels and toss a Bomb (or a Bomb Flower from a nearby plant) into the top of the spinning urn. If your timing is right, it will spit out a Piece of Heart along with some Rupees.
Zora’s River
Cucco Flight to the Ledge
Grab a Cucco near the entrance from Hyrule Field. Carry it past the frogs, up the small ledges. Near the waterfall leading to Zora’s Domain, look across the river to your right (if facing the waterfall). You’ll see a platform with a ladder and a Piece of Heart. Use the Cucco to glide over to this platform. Climb the ladder, and the Heart Piece is yours.
Zora’s Domain
Torch Lighting Challenge
Inside Zora’s Domain, you need to light five torches to reveal a secret. Start by lighting the torch near the Zora Shop with a Deku Stick. Use this to light two more torches in the shallow water on the main floor. Then, run quickly down the path leading behind the waterfall (where King Zora sits). Light the two torches there. A chest containing a Piece of Heart will appear behind the waterfall.
Hyrule Field
Lake Hylia
Diving for Science (Requires Golden Scale)
After obtaining the Golden Scale from the Fishing Pond (by catching a 15-pound fish as Adult Link, then showing a ~13lb fish as Young Link, or simply catching a large fish as Young Link after getting Silver Scale), go to the Lakeside Laboratory. Dive into the pool inside. Touch the bottom and the Lake Scientist will be impressed and award you a Piece of Heart.
Lon Lon Ranch
Go look behind the corral you’ll find a cow shed made of brick. If you pull the boxes you’ll be able to crawl through that little hole there.
Adult Link’s Path to a Stronger Heart
Time to use your adult strength and new tools!
Kakariko Village
Windmill Wonder
Enter the Windmill in Kakariko Village. Look up at the spinning platform. You’ll see a Piece of Heart on one of the ledges. You can jump to it from the central spinning platform with careful timing. (Alternatively, as Young Link, you can snag this with a well-aimed Boomerang shot from the ground floor, but it’s easier as Adult Link).
Rooftop Reward
Find the man sitting on the roof of one of the houses (often the one near the entrance to the general store/Skulltula house). To reach him, you can either use the Hookshot to grapple onto the roof from the top of the lookout tower, or from the ledge near the Windmill entrance. Speak to him, and he’ll give you a Piece of Heart.
Kakariko Graveyard
Dampe’s Ghost Race
Enter Dampe’s grave (the one Young Link opened to get the Sun’s Song, or the one that’s now open after you learn the Song of Storms). Inside, you’ll find Dampe’s Ghost. He’ll challenge you to a race. Follow him through the underground passage. If you can keep up and reach the end within 1 minute, he’ll reward you with a Piece of Heart. (You get the Hookshot the first time you beat him; this Heart Piece is for beating him a second time under a stricter time limit).
Hyrule Field
Death Mountain
Death Mountain Crater
Crater Wall Niche (Requires Goron Tunic)
From the Death Mountain Summit, warp to the Crater using the Bolero of Fire or enter through Goron City. Walk towards the broken bridge leading to the Fire Temple. Instead of crossing, look over the edge to your left (if facing the Temple entrance). You’ll see a small alcove in the cliff face below with a Piece of Heart. Carefully climb down the wall to reach it.
Crater Bean Sprout (Requires Goron Tunic)
Inside Death Mountain Crater, find the soft soil spot near the warp point for the Bolero of Fire. Plant a Magic Bean there as Young Link. Return as Adult Link and ride the beanstalk. It will carry you to a precarious rocky outcrop where a Piece of Heart awaits.
Zora’s Fountain
Ice Cavern
Frozen Heart (Requires Blue Fire)
Navigate through the Ice Cavern until you reach a large room with a spinning ice blade (“ice helicopter”). In this room, look for a Piece of Heart encased in red ice. You’ll need to find some Blue Fire in a bottle elsewhere in the cavern and use it to melt the red ice and claim your prize.
Lake Hylia
Lab Roof Arrival (Requires Scarecrow’s Song or Bean Plant)
Bean Plant Method: As Young Link, plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil next to the Lakeside Laboratory. Return as Adult Link and ride the beanstalk to the roof.
Scarecrow’s Song Method: As Young Link, play a custom song for Bonooru the Scarecrow at Lake Hylia. Return as Adult Link, stand on the small island or near the fishing pond entrance, aim your Hookshot/Longshot towards the roof of the lab, and play the Scarecrow’s Song. Pierre (the other scarecrow) will appear, allowing you to grapple to him and reach the roof. Climb the ladder on the roof to find the Piece of Heart.
Gerudo Valley
Waterfall Nook
Safely jump or climb down into the canyon river below (near where you can see a cow and a bean plant spot on a lower ledge). Swim towards the large waterfall at the far end (near the Gerudo’s Fortress entrance). Behind this waterfall, there’s a ladder. Climb it to find a hidden alcove containing a Piece of Heart.
Gerudo Fortress
Rooftop Chest (Requires Gerudo Membership Card & Hookshot/Longshot)
Atop the Gerudo Fortress (the main building where you were imprisoned), there’s a large treasure chest visible from the Horseback Archery range. You can reach it by climbing the vines near the jail cells or by using your Hookshot/Longshot from various points to grapple onto the rooftops and navigate your way there. Open the chest for a Piece of Heart. (Correction: The original guide listed getting 1000 points twice, which is incorrect. One time for the Heart Piece, another for the Quiver).
Desert Colossus
Colossus Bean Sprout (Requires Requiem of Spirit)
Warp to the Desert Colossus using the Requiem of Spirit. As Young Link (you’ll need to travel back in time and return), plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil spot just outside the entrance to the Spirit Temple. Return as Adult Link and ride the beanstalk to a stone archway where a Piece of Heart is waiting.
