The Lost Woods and Tarm Ruins
Maku Tree Report: Check in with the Maku Tree.
To the Tarm Ruins: You need to reach the Tarm Ruins, located northwest of Horon Village, past the Holodrum Plains. The entrance is blocked by the Lost Woods.
Navigating the Lost Woods: This area requires changing the seasons to navigate. Each screen has exits that lead to different screens depending on the current season. You need to find the correct sequence of seasons to reach the Tarm Ruins entrance.
- Find the first stump inside the woods.
- General Pattern (Trial and Error Required):
- Go West in Winter.
- Go South in Autumn.
- Go East in Spring.
- Go North in Summer.
- You’ll need to find stumps within the Lost Woods sections to change the season and proceed. Follow the pattern above for each screen until you emerge into the Tarm Ruins. (Example: Enter, find stump, change to Winter, go West. New screen, find stump, change to Autumn, go South. New screen…)
Tarm Ruins: Explore the ruins. You’ll likely need different seasons to access different parts.
**(Optional) Trading Sequence Cont.:
- (Optional) Megaphone: Find the old man trapped under rubble in the Tarm Ruins area (often requires Autumn to reveal him under leaves). Give him the Fish. He gives you the Megaphone.
- (Optional) Mushroom: Go to Mt. Cucco. Find Talon sleeping near the summit cave entrance (may require Summer for vines). Use the Megaphone to wake him up. He gives you the Mushroom.
Accessing Dungeon 6: The entrance to the Ancient Ruins dungeon is within Tarm Ruins. You typically need to change the season to Autumn to reveal the entrance under leaves or clear a path. Find the entrance.

Key & Dark Room: Light the torches with Ember Seeds to see. Defeat the Gibdos (mummies). A Small Key appears. Grab it. Go back north, then west twice (back to the room north of the Compass Room).
Locked Door & Trampoline: Go west. Use the Small Key on the locked door. Go north. Use the trampoline (“?”) block to jump over the barrier. Go north again.
Magic Boomerang: Go up the stairs. Navigate the side-scrolling area (use feather jumps, avoid fire). Climb down the ladder. Open the chest to get the Magic Boomerang (L-2)! This boomerang can be controlled manually after throwing it (hold button and use D-pad).
Using the Boomerang: Go back up the ladder, through the side-scroller, and down the stairs. Use the Magic Boomerang to hit the crystal switch across the gap. The rotating platforms change direction. Jump across them. Go south.
Key & Boomerang Puzzle: Use the Magic Boomerang to guide it around the barrier and hit the crystal switch. A Small Key appears on the ledge. Use the Boomerang again to retrieve the key. Go south, then east twice (back to the Map Room).
Locked Block & Miniboss: Go east. Use the Small Key on the locked block. Go north.
Miniboss: Vire: This is Ganon’s loyal minion. He flies around, shoots fireballs, and splits into Keese when damaged enough. Defeat the Keese, and he reforms. Repeat hitting him with your sword and defeating the Keese until he’s gone for good. A warp point appears. Go north.
Boss Key Room: Defeat the Wizzrobes (use the Boomerang to hit them from angles). Use the Boomerang to hit the three crystal switches quickly (guide it). Open the chest that appears for the Boss Key. Go east.
Final Boomerang Puzzle: Defeat the Ball and Chain Trooper. Use the Magic Boomerang to hit the switch across the pit, extending the bridge. Cross it. Go north through the boss door.
Boss: Manhandla: This four-headed plant moves around the room, shooting fireballs. Use the Magic Boomerang to cut off all four of its heads simultaneously (or very quickly). Once the heads are gone, its core is exposed and bounces around erratically. Slash the core with your sword until it’s destroyed. The Boomerang is key here.
Reward: Grab the Heart Container. Go north and take the Essence of Nature – Blowing Wind.
