The Lost Child Side Quest Begins
After placing the Ruby Tablet at the Goddess Statue following Skyview Temple’s completion, a distressed woman named Wryna approaches. She explains her daughter Kukiel is missing and beseeches your aid. This emotional moment launches the Lost Child quest and introduces the Gratitude Crystal storyline.

Morning Whispers in the Graveyard
During the daylight hours, you can visit Skyloft’s southeast graveyard and meet Orielle, a brown‑haired child. She mentions hearing rumors of a monster and advises seeking out someone who might know more. That someone is Rusta, an old man inside the Lumpy Pumpkin tavern on Pumpkin Landing, a small isle hanging east of Skyloft.
Inside the Lumpy Pumpkin, Rusta Spills the Tale
Fly across to Pumpkin Landing and step into the warmly lit tavern. Rusta will recount his frightening sighting in detail: a monster struck a gravestone near the oak tree in the Skyloft graveyard, watched it glow, then pushed it aside—revealing a hidden door to a secret shed deep below the surface,

Under Moonlight: Graveyard Secrets
Return to Skyloft and rest in any bed until nightfall. Beneath the midnight sky, return to the southeast graveyard. Strike the gravestone closest to the oak tree with your blade and watch as it glows. Push the stone aside, and you’ll uncover a hidden shed entrance. Descend the ladder and follow the walkway to the demon’s hidden lair.
Confronting Batreaux
At the end of the pathway you finally meet Batreaux, an imposing demon whose terrifying form hides a kind spirit. When you begin to attack he recoils in fear and pleads for mercy. He explains he was merely playing a screaming game with Kukiel—and that she is the only Skyloft resident unafraid of him. Batreaux confides his wish to collect Gratitude Crystals so he can transform into a human and be accepted by Skyloftians.
Homecoming at First Light
With the misunderstanding resolved, Kukiel joins you and happily leads you home to her house by the bridge near the Bazaar. Rest there until morning. As daylight returns, Wryna greets you utterly relieved and rewards you with five Gratitude Crystals. With that, the Lost Child quest concludes and your journey to collect even more Gratitude Crystals can begin in earnest.
