Twilight Princess: Action Replay Codes

What Was The Action Replay?

Gamecube Action Replay

Using Action Replay on GameCube was a popular way to cheat in Twilight Princess.

For players looking to modify their experience in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, cheat devices offered a way to gain advantages or simply experiment with the game. The most common method for the **GameCube** version involved the **Action Replay (AR)** by Datel, which used a special boot disc and memory card system. This page primarily focuses on these GameCube Action Replay codes.

The Action Replay allowed users to enter codes, typically multi-line hexadecimal strings, via an on-screen menu before launching the game. These codes could grant infinite health, magic, items, alter physics, and more by directly manipulating game data.

For completeness, this guide also includes information and codes for the **Wii** version of *Twilight Princess*, which utilizes a different system called **Gecko Codes** managed through Wii homebrew applications.

⚠️ Important Warning: Using cheat codes (Action Replay, Gecko, or others) directly manipulates game memory and execution. This can lead to unexpected glitches, graphical errors, crashes, game freezes, and carries a significant risk of save data corruption or unpredictable game behavior. Use codes responsibly, understand they can alter the intended game balance, and always consider backing up save files, especially when using emulators.

Twilight Princess (GameCube) – Action Replay Codes

These codes are designed for use with an Action Replay device on GameCube hardware or via supported GameCube emulators like Dolphin when playing the GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

⭐ CRITICAL NOTE – MASTER CODE REQUIRED ⭐
Action Replay codes for GameCube **absolutely require** the correct Master Code (‘(M)’) for your specific game version (USA/NTSC – GZ2E01, PAL – GZ2P01, etc.) to be entered and enabled. Without the Master Code active, NO other codes will function.

Common Master Codes (USA/NTSC Version – GZ2E01)

Ensure one of the following (or another verified Master Code matching your game ID GZ2E01) is active:

Master Code Option 1:
Y79P-FVDN-Y3CM0
81KV-M6E1-G6RBF
Master Code Option 2:
RHGE-FNEY-6J8F4
Q134-4G5G-R5YQA

(Enter the codes below ONLY after enabling a valid Master Code)

Twilight Princess (Wii) – Gecko Codes

For players using the Wii version of *Twilight Princess*, cheats are applied using **Gecko Codes**. These codes use a different format (XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY) and are loaded via Wii homebrew software (like USB Loaders or Gecko OS) or supported emulators, not an Action Replay device.

While Gecko codes don’t require a single “(M)” code like Action Replay, the cheat handler within the loader or emulator must be active. Button-activated codes use Wii Remote and Nunchuk inputs.

Common Gecko Codes (USA/NTSC Version – RZDE01)

Using Cheat Codes with Emulators (Dolphin)

The Dolphin emulator supports both Action Replay codes (for GameCube games) and Gecko codes (for Wii games) via the game properties menu.

Using Action Replay Codes (GameCube Version in Dolphin)

  1. Locate Game: Right-click the GameCube version of *Twilight Princess* (e.g., GZ2E01) in Dolphin’s list.
  2. Properties: Select Properties.
  3. AR Codes Tab: Go to the AR Codes tab.
  4. Add Master Code: Click Add…, name it “(M) Code”, paste the entire correct Master Code for your game version, click Save, and **ensure it’s enabled (checked)**. This is required.
  5. Add Cheat Codes: Click Add… for each AR cheat, name it, paste the full code, click Save, and **ensure it’s enabled (checked)**.
  6. Launch Game: Close Properties and start the game.

Using Gecko Codes (Wii Version in Dolphin)

  1. Locate Game: Right-click the Wii version of *Twilight Princess* (e.g., RZDE01) in Dolphin’s list.
  2. Properties: Select Properties.
  3. Gecko Codes Tab: Go to the Gecko Codes tab.
  4. Add Codes Manually or Download:
    • Manual Add: Click Add…. Enter a name. Paste the Gecko code (XXXXXXXX YYYYYYYY format, including activator lines for button codes) into the “Code” box. Click Save and **ensure it’s enabled (checked)**.
    • Download (If Available): Click Download Codes (WiiRD Database). If successful, find desired codes in the list and enable them via the checkboxes.
  5. Enable Cheats Globally (If Needed): In Dolphin’s main Config window (Options > Configuration), go to the “General” tab and ensure “Enable Cheats” is checked.
  6. Launch Game: Close Properties and start the game.

Emulator Cheat Notes:

  • Correct Tab/Type: Use the “AR Codes” tab for GameCube AR codes and the “Gecko Codes” tab for Wii Gecko codes.
  • Master Codes (AR): Essential for GameCube AR codes. Not used for Gecko in the same way, but cheats must be enabled globally in Dolphin.
  • Region/Version Match: Codes MUST match your game’s specific ID (e.g., GZ2E01 vs RZDE01 vs PAL versions).
  • Stability: Emulation + cheats can sometimes be unstable. If issues arise, disable codes one by one to identify conflicts, especially complex button-activated or physics-modifying codes.

A Note on Twilight Princess HD (Wii U)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U uses entirely different cheating methods, typically requiring Wii U homebrew solutions like Cafiine or TCP Gecko. Codes for the GameCube (Action Replay) or Wii (Gecko) versions are **not compatible** with the Wii U HD version. You would need to search specifically for Wii U homebrew cheats if playing that version.

Whether using Action Replay on GameCube or Gecko Codes on Wii (or via Dolphin), these cheats offer numerous ways to enhance or simply have fun with the expansive world and dungeons of *The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess*.
