Swords
These are Link’s primary offensive tools.
Wooden Sword
Use: A basic starter sword made of wood. Weakest sword.
Location: Found in a chest inside Link’s house in Ordon Village at the very beginning of the game, left there by Rusl.
Ordon Sword
Use: A sturdier metal sword, replacing the Wooden Sword. Originally crafted as a gift for Hyrule’s Royal Family.Location: Obtained from Rusl’s house in Ordon Village upon Midna’s request early in the game after Link is freed from Hyrule Castle’s dungeon.
Master Sword
Use: The legendary “Blade of Evil’s Bane,” capable of repelling great evil. Significantly stronger than the Ordon Sword. Required to break the curse turning Link into a wolf in Twilight areas and dispel dark fog.Location: Found resting in the Pedestal of Time within the ruins of the Temple of Time, located deep within the Sacred Grove (accessed via Faron Woods). Obtained after completing the wolf-based trials within the Grove.
Light Sword
Use: The Master Sword temporarily infused with the light of Sols gathered within the Palace of Twilight. It emits a bright light and is devastatingly effective against Twilit creatures. It can also cut through the dark fog within the Palace.Location/Activation: Activated automatically after collecting the two Sols within the Palace of Twilight. The power only persists while inside the Palace of Twilight or the Twilight Realm surrounding Hyrule Castle. The sword reverts to its normal state upon returning to Hyrule proper or leaving the Palace before its completion. Beware of Zant’s Hands while carrying the Sols!
Shields
Essential for defense, blocking attacks, and sometimes reflecting projectiles.
Ordon Shield
Use: A basic wooden shield. Blocks simple attacks but will burn upon contact with fire and be destroyed permanently.Location: Found on the upper floor of Jaggle’s house in Ordon Village, retrieved alongside the Ordon Sword. It was also intended as a gift for the Royal Family. Note: Once burnt, it cannot be replaced.
Wooden Shield
Use: Functionally identical to the Ordon Shield but with a different design. Also burns on contact with fire.Location: Can be purchased only after the Ordon Shield has been destroyed by fire. Available at Malo Mart in Kakariko Village or the Goron shop near the Hot Springs on Death Mountain for 50 Rupees.
Hylian Shield
Use: The best shield available. Made of metal, it cannot be burned by fire. Blocks most physical attacks and can deflect certain magical attacks when using the Shield Attack technique (learned later).Location: Can be purchased from the Goron Merchant in Castle Town Market or from Malo Mart in Kakariko Village (once Malo establishes his shop there) for 200 Rupees.
Armor
Tunics that provide different defensive properties or abilities.
Hero’s Clothes
Use: The iconic green tunic of the Hero. Offers standard defense.Location: Automatically bestowed upon Link by the Light Spirit Faron when he is first transformed back into his human form after the Forest Temple events.
Zora Armor
Use: Allows Link to breathe and swim freely underwater, greatly enhancing underwater exploration and combat. Grants faster swimming speed.Weakness: Makes Link extremely vulnerable to Fire and Ice attacks, taking significantly increased damage.Location: Received as a gift from the spirit of Queen Rutela in Kakariko Village’s Graveyard after successfully escorting Prince Ralis safely back to Kakariko Village.
Magic Armor
Use: Grants Link invincibility; however, instead of taking damage, Link loses Rupees with each hit received. When Rupees run out, the armor becomes extremely heavy, drastically slowing Link’s movement (similar to Iron Boots on land) and offering no protection. Highly recommended for the Cave of Ordeals.Location: Purchased from the expensive shop “Malo Mart – Castle Town Branch” for 598 Rupees. Establishing this shop requires completing a lengthy and costly sidequest:
- Donate 1,000 Rupees to Malo Mart in Kakariko to repair the bridge to Castle Town West.
- Speak to the Goron outside Malo Mart Kakariko. Take the barrel of Hot Springwater across Hyrule Field to the Goron sitting by the broken Castle Town West bridge (must avoid enemies and reach him before it cools).
- Donate 2,000 Rupees to the Goron inside the newly opened Malo Mart – Castle Town Branch to lower prices and make the Magic Armor available for 598 Rupees (instead of an exorbitant initial price).
Dungeon Items
Key items typically found within dungeons, essential for progression and puzzle-solving.
Gale Boomerang
Use: A magical boomerang inhabited by the Fairy of Winds. Can create small gales to activate windmills, extinguish torches, or clear fog. Locks onto up to five targets simultaneously. Can retrieve distant items (Rupees, Hearts, Bombs), cut ropes, and even carry Bombs to targets.Location: Obtained in the Forest Temple after defeating the mini-boss, Ook (Twilit Baboon).
Iron Boots
Use: Heavy boots that allow Link to sink quickly in water, walk on the bottom of lakes/rivers (enabling underwater combat/interaction), and walk on magnetized walls and ceilings. Also makes Link heavy enough to resist strong winds and stop rolling Gorons. Slightly slows movement on land.Location: Given by Mayor Bo in Kakariko Village after Link defeats him in a sumo wrestling match inside his house.
Hero’s Bow
Use: A powerful bow for ranged attacks. Can be used while running or on horseback. Can be combined with Bombs, the Hawkeye, and later Fire/Ice Arrows (though these are not standalone items). Essential for many puzzles and boss fights. Replaces the Slingshot.Upgrades: Larger Quivers holding more arrows can be won from the STAR Tent minigame in Castle Town Market.Location: Found in the Goron Mines after defeating the mini-boss, Dangoro.
Clawshot / Double Clawshots
Use: Fires a chain-linked claw that latches onto specific targets: vines, grating, Peahats, and designated Clawshot tiles. Can pull Link towards targets, pull items towards Link, or stun enemies. The Double Clawshots allow Link to hang from one target while firing the second Clawshot, enabling complex traversal between grapple points.Location: The first Clawshot is found in the Lakebed Temple after defeating the mini-boss, Deku Toad. The second Clawshot is found in the City in the Sky, needed to defeat the boss, Twilit Dragon: Argorok.
Spinner
Use: An ancient spinning top-like device Link stands on. Used to ride along special wall rails found in dungeons and specific locations in Hyrule Field. Can also fit into gear-like mechanisms to operate ancient machinery. Essential for the boss fight against Twilit Fossil: Stallord.Location: Found in the Arbiter’s Grounds after defeating the mini-boss, Death Sword.
Ball and Chain
Use: A massive flail weapon. Extremely powerful, capable of destroying ice blocks, suits of armor, cracked walls/floors, and heavily damaging enemies. Can be swung around Link for defense. Slows Link’s movement considerably (though not as much as inactive Magic Armor) and makes him immune to strong winds.Location: Dropped by the mini-boss Darkhammer in the Snowpeak Ruins.
Dominion Rod
Use: A magical rod that can imbue certain ancient statues (Owl Statues and others) with life, allowing Link to control their movements remotely. Used extensively for puzzles in the Temple of Time and required for the boss fight against Twilit Arachnid: Armogohma.Location: Found in the Temple of Time. Note: It loses its power upon leaving the Temple and must be restored later by visiting Shad in Kakariko Village’s sanctuary basement and using the Ancient Sky Book to reveal a Sky Character chant.
Other Key Equipment
Useful items found outside dungeons or serving supplementary roles.
Slingshot
Use: Link’s first ranged weapon. Fires Pumpkin Seeds. Useful for hitting distant targets or switches early in the game. Becomes obsolete once the Hero’s Bow is obtained.Location: Purchased from Sera’s Sundries shop in Ordon Village early in the game.
Lantern
Use: Provides light in dark areas. Can burn away spiderwebs and light torches. Consumes Lantern Oil over time. Essential for navigating the poison fog in Faron Woods early on.Location: Given as a gift by Coro in Faron Woods upon your first meeting.
Fishing Rod
Use: Used to catch fish in various bodies of water throughout Hyrule. Different baits (Bee Larva, Worms) and lures can be used. Can also distract Ganondorf during the final battle’s sword phase.Location: Given by Uli in Ordon Village after Link retrieves her baby’s cradle from a monkey. A Lure Rod upgrade can be obtained at Hena’s Fishing Hole.
Hawkeye Mask
Use: A mask resembling a bird’s head. When equipped simultaneously with the Hero’s Bow, it allows Link to zoom in like a scope for precise long-range shots.Location: Becomes available for purchase (100 Rupees) at Malo Mart in Kakariko Village after completing Malo and Talo’s archery practice session near the village entrance.
Bombs & Bomb Bag
Use: Explosives used to destroy cracked walls, boulders, and damage enemies. Required to defeat downed Stalfos. Can be combined with the Hero’s Bow to create Bomb Arrows (select Bombs then fire Bow).Upgrades: Multiple Bomb Bags allowing different bomb types (Normal, Water, Bombling) and increased capacity can be obtained. The first is sold by Barnes. Others involve quests like destroying boulders in Zora’s Domain upper river and the Iza’s Rapids Ride minigame.Location: First available for purchase from Barnes’ Bombs in Kakariko Village after the Goron Mines events. Also dropped by some enemies.
Water Bombs
Use: Bombs that can explode underwater. Necessary to enter the Lakebed Temple and useful for underwater obstacles/enemies. Can be combined with arrows like normal Bombs.Location: Purchased from Barnes’ Bombs after receiving a letter from him indicating new stock, or from a Zora merchant near the Lakebed Temple entrance. Requires a Bomb Bag that can hold them.
Bomblings
Use: Small, mobile bombs that run in a straight line until hitting something or detecting an enemy, which they will then chase. Can be stored in compatible Bomb Bags.Location: Found occasionally as enemy drops (especially in Forest Temple/Hyrule Field) or purchased from Barnes’ Bombs later in the game.
Horse Call
Use: An item crafted from Horsetail Reeds. Allows Link to call Epona from almost anywhere in Hyrule Field, replacing the need to find specific patches of Horse Grass.Location: Received from Ilia after successfully restoring her memory late in the game.
Ooccoo & Ooccoo Jr.
Use: Oocca travelers found in jars within most dungeons (up to City in the Sky). Ooccoo allows Link to instantly warp out of the dungeon to its entrance. Ooccoo Jr. allows Link to warp back to Ooccoo’s location inside the dungeon. Cannot be used during mini-boss or boss battles.Location: Found within jars inside dungeons.
Bottles (4 Total)
Empty bottles used to carry various liquids, fairies, or small items.
- Bottle #1: Received from Sera at Sera’s Sundries in Ordon Village, filled with Milk, after showing her the Fishing Rod.
- Bottle #2: Purchased from Coro in Faron Woods for 100 Rupees, comes filled with Lantern Oil.
- Bottle #3: Fished out of the water near the bridge at Hena’s Fishing Hole (west side). Requires the Fishing Rod.
- Bottle #4: Given by Jovani in his house in Castle Town Market (accessible as Wolf Link) after bringing him 20 Poe Souls. Comes filled with Great Fairy’s Tears.
Bottle Contents
Items that can be stored in Empty Bottles.
- Milk: Restores 3 hearts per serving (2 servings per bottle). Available from Ordon Goats or Sera’s Sundries.
- Lantern Oil / Yellow Chu Jelly: Refills the Lantern’s oil gauge. Oil can be bought from Coro or found in pots/vats. Yellow Chu Jelly, obtained from defeating Yellow Chus, functions identically.
- Red Potion / Red Chu Jelly: Restores 8 hearts. Can be bought from various shops or stolen from Coro’s bird, Trill. Red Chu Jelly (from Red Chus) functions identically.
- Nasty Soup / Purple Chu Jelly: Randomly either restores 1 heart or takes 1 heart away. Scooped from Coro’s cauldron (only when fire is lit). Purple Chu Jelly (from Purple Chus, sometimes requiring mixing Red/Blue Chus) functions identically.
- Blue Potion / Blue Chu Jelly: Restores all hearts. Available for purchase in certain shops (like Malo Mart Castle Town Branch) or obtained from Blue Chus.
- Hot Springwater: Heals hearts like Red Potion but cools down quickly, becoming regular Water. Needed for a Goron sidequest. Obtained from Hot Springs (Death Mountain, Kakariko Goron shop, Castle Town Malo Mart).
- Water: Can put out small fires or water Ordon Pumpkins. Very limited use. Obtained from any water source or cooled Hot Springwater.
- Bee Larva: Primarily used as basic fishing bait. Restores only a quarter heart if consumed. Found by knocking down beehives.
- Worms: Used as better fishing bait, attracting different fish than Larva. Found by digging in certain spots or dropped by Bomskit enemies.
- Great Fairy’s Tears / Rare (Golden) Chu Jelly: Fully restores all hearts and temporarily doubles attack power. Extremely valuable. One bottle given by Jovani (20 Poes). Can be obtained repeatedly from Spirit Springs after completing the Cave of Ordeals. Rare/Golden Chu Jelly (from very rare Gold Chus) functions identically.
- Yeto’s Simple/Good/Superb Soup: Made during the Snowpeak Ruins quest. Heals 2, 4, or 8 hearts per serving (2 servings) depending on ingredients (Pumpkin, Cheese, Reekfish). The final version (Superb) is as good as Red Potion.
- Fairy: Automatically revives Link upon death, restoring 8 hearts. Found floating near Spirit Springs or in certain hidden grottos.
Collectibles
Items gathered throughout the world, often leading to rewards or upgrades.
Pieces of Heart
Use: Collect 5 Pieces of Heart to form one full Heart Container, increasing Link’s maximum health by one heart.Total: There are 45 Pieces of Heart scattered throughout Hyrule (in caves, dungeons, minigames, sidequests), allowing for 9 extra Heart Containers. Combined with the starting 3 and 8 full Containers from bosses, the maximum is 20 hearts.
Poe Souls
Use: Fragments of Jovani’s soul. Collect them by defeating Poes (visible only as Wolf Link using senses) found throughout Hyrule, primarily at night or in dungeons.Rewards: Bring them to Jovani in Castle Town Market for rewards:
- 20 Poe Souls: Bottle #4 (filled with Great Fairy’s Tears) + Silver Rupee.
- 60 Poe Souls: Jovani is freed from his curse, and his cat Gengle gives Link infinite Silver Rupees (200) anytime he visits.
Total: 60 Poe Souls to collect.
Golden Bugs
Use: Male and female pairs of 12 different types of glowing insects found across Hyrule. Give collected bugs to Agitha in her house (“Agitha’s Castle”) in Castle Town South Road.Rewards:
- 1st Bug: Big Wallet (holds 600 Rupees).
- All 24 Bugs: Giant Wallet (holds 1,000 Rupees). Agitha also gives Rupees for individual bugs.
Total: 24 Golden Bugs (12 pairs).
Key Quest Items
Items essential for progressing through the main storyline or specific side quests.
Fused Shadow (x3)
Ancient relics of dark power sought by Midna. Found in the Forest Temple, Goron Mines, and Lakebed Temple. Collecting all three triggers major plot events.
Mirror Shard (x3)
Fragments of the broken Mirror of Twilight. Found in the Arbiter’s Grounds, Snowpeak Ruins, and Temple of Time. Required to restore the mirror and access the Twilight Realm.
Ancient Sky Book
An incomplete book held by Shad of the resistance group. Used in conjunction with Owl Statues and the Dominion Rod to learn Sky Characters needed to reach the City in the Sky.
Ilia’s Charm
A carved charm belonging to Ilia. Its scent is used by Wolf Link to track Ilia early in the game. Later becomes the Horse Call.
Wooden Statue
A statue carved by Renado, stolen by Stalfos. Recovering it is part of restoring Ilia’s memory. Found after defeating Stalhounds in South Hyrule Field near Kakariko Gorge.
Renado’s Letter
A letter from Renado in Kakariko Village to Telma in Castle Town, part of the Ilia memory quest chain.
Telma’s Invoice
An invoice given by Telma for the Castle Town Doctor, regarding Ilia’s care. Part of the Ilia memory quest chain.
Ashei’s Sketch
A drawing by Ashei depicting a Yeti carrying a large fish (Reekfish). Shown to characters (especially Zora) to learn about the fish needed to access Snowpeak Ruins.
Reekfish Scent
The scent of the Reekfish, obtained after catching one with Prince Ralis’s Coral Earring lure. Used by Wolf Link to follow the Yeti’s trail to Snowpeak.
Ordon Pumpkin / Ordon Goat Cheese
Ingredients needed for Yeto’s Soup during the Snowpeak Ruins quest. The pumpkin is obtained earlier, the cheese requires fetching from Ordon Village.
Auru’s Memo
A note from Auru authorizing Fyer to launch Link via cannon from Lake Hylia to the Gerudo Desert.
