Zelda Fans, Take Note: Switch 2 Pre-Orders Start April 24 Amid Accessory Price Changes

Nintendo has officially confirmed that U.S. retail pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin on April 24, 2025, with the console’s launch date set for June 5. The base model will retail for $449.99, while a bundle including Mario Kart World will be available for $499.99. Prices for both physical and digital versions of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) remain unchanged at launch.

However, Nintendo has announced price adjustments for several Switch 2 accessories due to changing market conditions. Notably, the Pro Controller is now priced at $84.99, up from $79.99, and the Joy-Con 2 pair has increased to $94.99 from $89.99. The Switch 2 Dock Set has also seen a price increase to $119.99, up from $109.99.

These adjustments follow a delay in pre-orders, initially set for April 9, as Nintendo assessed the impact of newly imposed tariffs from the Trump administration’s “Liberation Day” policy on manufacturing nations. While the console and game prices remain unaffected, accessory prices have been adjusted to reflect these market changes.

For Zelda fans, the upcoming release of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is set to launch this winter as a Switch 2 exclusive. Additionally, select GameCube titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, will become available to Switch Online subscribers.

As the June 5 launch date approaches, fans are encouraged to secure their pre-orders starting April 24 to ensure access to the new console and its accessories.

Zelda Switch 2 Editions Missing Cloud Save Support—Error or Intentional Omission?

Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will not support cloud save backups via Nintendo Switch Online. This decision has raised concerns among fans, as it means that save data for these titles cannot be backed up to the cloud, posing a risk of data loss if the console is damaged or lost.

The official store pages for both Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the US and EU include a disclaimer stating: “Please note: this software does not support the Nintendo Switch Online paid membership’s Save Data Cloud backup feature.” Interestingly, this disclaimer is absent from other Switch 2 Edition titles like Metroid Prime 4 and Kirby and the Forgotten Land, suggesting that the restriction is specific to the Zelda titles .

Notably, the Japanese store pages for these games do not mention any cloud save restrictions, leading to speculation that the limitation may be regional or possibly a temporary oversight .

Players can transfer their save data from the original Switch versions to the Switch 2 Editions. However, once transferred, the new save data cannot be backed up to the cloud. Additionally, starting a new game on the Switch 2 Edition will result in save data that is stored only locally, without cloud backup support .

The Switch 2 Editions offer enhancements such as improved visuals, faster load times, and an additional save slot. Despite these upgrades, the lack of cloud save support is a significant drawback for players concerned about data security.

Nintendo has yet to provide an official explanation for this limitation. Fans are hopeful that the company will address this issue in future updates.

Great Deku Tree LEGO Set Receives Rare Discount (UK)

The LEGO The Legend of Zelda: Great Deku Tree 2-in-1 set (77092) has recently seen a rare price reduction, making it more accessible for fans and collectors. Originally priced at $299.99, the set is now available for $220.99 on Amazon UK, offering a significant saving for enthusiasts .

This 2,500-piece set allows builders to recreate the iconic Great Deku Tree in two distinct versions: one from Ocarina of Time and another from Breath of the Wild. It includes four exclusive minifigures—three versions of Link and Princess Zelda—as well as notable items like the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and the Ocarina of Time .

Given the set’s popularity and limited availability, discounts have been uncommon. This price drop presents a valuable opportunity for fans to acquire a piece of Hyrule’s history in LEGO form.

For those interested in adding this set to their collection, it’s advisable to act promptly, as such discounts are infrequent and stock may be limited.

Daily Bonuses and Gear Fixes: Zelda’s New App Integration Explained

Nintendo has unveiled an exciting new feature for the upcoming Switch 2 editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom: the ability to repair equipment using a companion app.

Sheikah Slate Meets Smartphone: Daily Bonuses and Equipment Repair

In these enhanced versions, players can access a daily roulette wheel through the updated Nintendo Switch app. This feature offers various in-game bonuses, including health restoration, energy cell recharges, meals, and, notably, equipment repairs. This means that when your favorite sword is on the verge of breaking during a battle with a Lynel, you might have the chance to restore its durability.

However, to maintain game balance, each bonus can only be used once per day, and the roulette wheel’s offerings change daily, so equipment repair won’t always be available.

Enhanced App Features: Achievements and More

Beyond the equipment repair function, the updated app introduces achievements, voiced navigation, and new memory logs, enriching the overall gameplay experience.

Visual Upgrades and DLC Considerations

While the Switch 2 editions boast improved visual performance, it’s important to note that the Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition will not include its previously released paid DLC, which added new story content and shrines.

A Glimpse into the Future: Hyrule Warriors Sequel

In addition to these updates, fans can look forward to the upcoming Hyrule Warriors sequel titled Age of Imprisonment, set to expand the Tears of the Kingdom universe.

These enhancements aim to provide a more immersive and flexible experience for both new players and longtime fans of the series.

Update on BotW Switch 2 Edition: Nintendo Confirms DLC Will Be Sold Separately

Alright Hylians, we have an important clarification regarding the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition that we’ve been talking about. Nintendo has now officially confirmed to IGN exactly how the Expansion Pass DLC will be handled, and it might not be what some fans were hoping for.

The DLC is NOT Included

Nintendo has stated clearly: “The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition does not include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass DLC. That DLC is available as a separate purchase.”

This means both The Master Trials and The Champions’ Ballad will need to be bought separately if you want them for this new edition, even if you buy the full-priced game. The Expansion Pass containing both packs remains listed at $20.

Quick Recap: What Is Included & Pricing

Just to refresh everyone’s memory on this upcoming edition:

  • Enhancements: It promises improved visuals and performance, the addition of achievements, and integration with a “Zelda Notes” mobile app.
  • Price: The standalone Switch 2 Edition is priced at $70.
  • Upgrade Option: For those who own the original Switch version, a $10 “upgrade pack” will be available to get the Switch 2 Edition’s features.

So, if you’re planning on upgrading via the $10 path and want the DLC (and don’t already own it tied to your account somehow), you’ll need to budget for that separate $20 purchase as well.

Part of a Wider Rollout

As we know, this approach isn’t unique to Breath of the Wild. Nintendo is also preparing similar Switch 2 Editions for Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Final Thoughts

While we’re still eager to see those performance and visual improvements in action, this confirmation on the DLC might adjust how some fans view the overall value, especially compared to “Game of the Year” editions we often see from other publishers.

Now that this is confirmed, how do you feel about the pricing structure and the separate DLC? Does the $10 upgrade path make it worthwhile? Share your updated thoughts in the comments below!

Keep Hope Alive, Heroes! Wind Waker HD on Switch 2 Still Possible

Okay, fellow Hylians! Let’s dive into some exciting (and slightly confusing) news floating around the Great Sea of speculation regarding the Switch 2 and our beloved The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

Alright, so you probably heard the news: Nintendo confirmed that the original GameCube version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is one of the first titles hitting the “Nintendo Classics” library for the upcoming Switch 2. For many of us, while exciting to see the classic return, it brought a wave of worry. Did this mean the absolutely gorgeous Wind Waker HD remaster, currently stranded on the Wii U like Link on Outset Island pre-King of Red Lions, was officially sunk for the new console?

We’ve been practically begging Nintendo to port Wind Waker HD (and its sibling, Twilight Princess HD) from the Wii U for years. Seeing the original GameCube version announced felt like Nintendo might be saying, “Here’s your Wind Waker fix, now stop asking for the HD one.”

But hold onto your grappling hooks! There’s a beacon of hope shining through the fog.

According to Tim Gettys over at Kinda Funny Games Daily, he had a chance to chat with a high-ranking Nintendo representative at a recent Switch 2 press event. Specifically, he spoke with Nate Bihldorff, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Product Development. Tim directly asked him if having the GameCube Wind Waker on the Classics service meant the Wii U HD port was definitively not coming to Switch 2.

Bihldorff’s response? He was apparently “very quick” to say “no, all options are on the table.”

Now, let’s manage expectations – this isn’t a confirmation that Wind Waker HD is definitely coming. It’s classic Nintendo non-committal language. However, it’s crucially important because it directly refutes the idea that having the GameCube version available automatically disqualifies the HD remaster. The door is still open!

This tells us that Nintendo might not see these different versions as strictly competing. Think about it:

  • We got the fantastic Link’s Awakening remake on Switch, but the original Game Boy version is also playable via Nintendo Switch Online.
  • Metroid Prime Remastered launched to huge acclaim on Switch, but it’s highly likely the original GameCube Metroid Prime will eventually join the Classics library too.
  • Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 received separate ports/re-releases on the Switch, even before any GameCube NSO-style service existed.

While some speculated that Nintendo avoided putting the original Super Mario RPG on NSO because the full remake was coming, Bihldorff’s comment suggests this isn’t a strict company rule. They seem open to letting multiple versions of beloved games coexist on their platform.

So, what does this mean for us Zelda fans?

It means don’t give up hope! The arrival of the GameCube Wind Waker on Switch 2 is awesome, but it doesn’t necessarily torpedo our chances of finally getting the definitive Wind Waker HD port (and hopefully Twilight Princess HD too!) on modern hardware. Nintendo has explicitly stated that the possibility still exists.

Keep those fingers crossed, keep voicing your desire for these HD ports, and maybe, just maybe, we’ll be sailing the Great Sea in glorious high definition on the Switch 2 someday soon!

What do you think? Does this news get your hopes up for the HD remasters making the leap? Let us know in the comments!

Zelda Takes Center Stage: ‘Echoes of Wisdom’ Nominated for 2025 Hugo Award

The Hugo Awards, established in 1953, are prestigious accolades presented annually by the World Science Fiction Society. Named after Hugo Gernsback, the founder of the pioneering science fiction magazine Amazing Stories, these awards honor the best in science fiction and fantasy across various media, including literature, film, and, more recently, video games.

In an exciting development for Zelda enthusiasts, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has been nominated for the 2025 Hugo Award in the Best Game or Interactive Work category. This nomination underscores the game’s innovative approach and its impact on the gaming community.

Echoes of Wisdom breaks new ground by placing players in the role of Princess Zelda, offering a fresh perspective within the beloved franchise. The game introduces the “echo” summoning mechanic, allowing players to create replicas of objects and enemies to solve puzzles and engage in combat. This inventive feature has been praised for encouraging creativity and strategic thinking, with IGN noting that the echo system “combines the expertly crafted dungeons, puzzle rooms, and item progression you’d expect from a classic-style 2D Zelda with the borderline unhinged freedom provided by Tears of the Kingdom.”

The nomination places Echoes of Wisdom alongside other notable titles such as Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, Caves of Qud, 1000xRESIST, and Tactical Breach Wizards. Each of these games has been recognized for their unique contributions to storytelling and gameplay within the industry.

The winners will be announced at the 83rd World Science Fiction Convention in Seattle on August 16. Previous recipients of the award include Hades and Baldur’s Gate 3, highlighting the significance of this nomination for Echoes of Wisdom and its developers.

For Zelda fans, this nomination not only celebrates the franchise’s evolution but also acknowledges the community’s enthusiasm and support that continue to drive the series forward.

Exciting News for Zelda Fans: Affordable Upgrades for Switch 2

Fan-made Mockup of Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Packaging

Great news for all Legend of Zelda enthusiasts! Nintendo has announced that players who already own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom can upgrade to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions for just $9.99 each. For newcomers, the Switch 2 versions are priced at $69.99 and $79.99, respectively. Bill Trinen, Nintendo of America’s VP of Product and Player Experience, explained that these upgrade packs are also included at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers. These enhanced editions offer improved resolution, frame rates, and HDR support, ensuring a smoother 60fps gameplay experience on the new console.

In addition to the Zelda upgrades, Nintendo is introducing the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, an educational mini-game designed to familiarize players with the console’s features. This title is priced at $9.99, a decision that has sparked some debate among fans who believe it should be included with the console, similar to Astro’s Playroom for the PS5.

While these game upgrades are reasonably priced, the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2 console itself has raised some concerns. The console is priced at $449.99, and there is uncertainty about how tariffs, including a 24% tariff on Japanese goods imposed during President Trump’s administration, might affect this price in the U.S. Pre-orders have begun in other countries, but American consumers are awaiting further details.

For dedicated Zelda fans, the affordable upgrade options for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom present a fantastic opportunity to experience these beloved titles with enhanced performance on the latest hardware. Stay tuned for more updates as Nintendo releases further information.
