Zelda-Themed Nintendo Switch 2 Console and Pro Controller Appear to Leak in Packaging Photos

Zelda Hardware Leak

What began as another rumor may have turned into one of the most convincing Nintendo hardware leaks in recent memory.

A collection of high-resolution images showing retail packaging for a The Legend of Zelda Nintendo Switch 2 console bundle and matching Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has surfaced online, and the amount of detail has many fans believing these products are genuine. While Nintendo has not officially announced the hardware, the packaging looks production-ready and closely aligns with months of reports surrounding a Zelda-themed Switch 2 release.

Retail Packaging Suggests an Official Release Is Near

Unlike early concept renders or mockups that frequently circulate online, these newly leaked images show what appears to be finalized retail packaging.

Among the photos are:

  • The front and back of the Zelda-themed Pro Controller box.
  • Folded packaging awaiting assembly.
  • Packaging for a special-edition Nintendo Switch 2 console.
  • Internal box artwork displaying the console and accessories.

The level of detail has drawn attention from fans, particularly because the packaging includes multilingual product information, regulatory markings, official Nintendo branding, and what appears to be a commemorative 40th Anniversary badge for The Legend of Zelda. Those elements would be difficult to reproduce accurately without access to official assets.

A Collector’s Edition Inspired by Hyrule

If authentic, Nintendo has taken a restrained but elegant approach to the hardware.

The console appears to feature:

  • A black dock decorated with gold Hylian artwork.
  • Green-and-gold Joy-Con controllers with Triforce-inspired accents.
  • Matching Zelda iconography across the hardware.
  • A premium presentation focused on the series’ iconic symbols rather than artwork from a single game.

The accompanying Pro Controller follows the same theme with textured green grips, metallic gold detailing, intricate Hylian patterns, and a large Triforce emblem across the controller’s face. Packaging also prominently displays The Legend of Zelda branding alongside a special 40th Anniversary logo.

The Leak Matches Earlier Rumors

These images didn’t appear out of nowhere.

Earlier this year, multiple industry insiders claimed Nintendo was preparing a limited-edition Zelda Switch 2 console to coincide with the franchise’s 40th anniversary and the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2. At the time, few details were available beyond claims that a special console was in development.

The newly surfaced packaging closely matches those earlier reports, adding more credibility to speculation that Nintendo has been preparing the hardware behind the scenes.

Has Nintendo’s Announcement Been Spoiled?

Although Nintendo has remained silent, the leak feels unusually complete.

Retail packaging is typically produced only after product designs, branding, and marketing materials have been finalized. While counterfeit packaging is always possible, creating boxes with this level of consistency would require a significant amount of effort and access to accurate product information.

That doesn’t guarantee authenticity, but it does make these images far more convincing than the average rumor shared on social media.

Our Take

Assuming these images are legitimate, Nintendo may be preparing one of its most desirable collector’s editions yet.

The design celebrates The Legend of Zelda as a franchise instead of focusing on a single title, making it a fitting tribute for the series’ 40th anniversary. Between the premium gold detailing, custom Joy-Cons, matching Pro Controller, and commemorative packaging, this could easily become one of the most sought-after Switch 2 releases among Zelda collectors.

Until Nintendo makes an official announcement, the hardware should still be treated as unconfirmed. However, with retail-ready packaging now circulating from multiple angles, it appears increasingly likely that fans won’t have to wait much longer before Nintendo reveals what’s next for Hyrule.

Nintendo Releases a Free Legend of Zelda Summer Bingo Card

Play Nintendo Legend of Zelda Bingo Card

Saving Hyrule usually involves ancient temples, dangerous monsters, and at least one suspiciously complicated puzzle. Nintendo’s latest Zelda-themed quest is a little more relaxed.

Play Nintendo has released a free The Legend of Zelda Bingo Quest activity sheet that turns everyday summer experiences into objectives worthy of an adventurer. Players mark off each square after completing its activity, with the goal of collecting five spaces in a row. The center Korok symbol serves as a free space, giving everyone a small head start.

Play Nintendo LEgend of Zelda Bingo Card

The printable card features a parchment-style design and artwork of Toon Link, making it look a bit like a quest notice pulled from the world of The Wind Waker. Instead of defeating bosses or hunting for Triforce shards, however, the board asks players to complete real-world activities.

Some of the quests are simple, such as solving a puzzle, listening to a new song, helping make dinner, or wearing something new. Others encourage players to head outside by going swimming, visiting a beach, looking for bugs, building a sandcastle, riding a horse, or going on a hike. There are also a few open-ended challenges, including finding treasure, making a new friend, helping a friend, and simply being brave.

It is clearly designed with younger Zelda fans and families in mind, but there is nothing stopping longtime players from joining in. In fact, trying to finish the entire board could make for a fun family challenge during a vacation, camping trip, or the final weeks before school begins again.

The complete list of quests includes:

Touch grass, ride a horse, find treasure, help make dinner, make a mud pie, look for bugs, find a feather, visit a beach, read a book, build a sandcastle, help a friend, solve a puzzle, make a new friend, be brave, go swimming, go for a hike, build a pillow fort, wear something new, make a craft, sit by a campfire, enjoy a cold treat, listen to a new song, play an instrument, and read a map.

Nintendo recommends asking an adult for help with any outdoor activities. To get started, fans only need to download the PDF from Play Nintendo, print it on paper, and grab a crayon or marker for checking off completed quests.

It may not reward players with a Heart Container or a shiny new piece of equipment, but it is a charming excuse to turn an ordinary summer day into a small adventure. The free Legend of Zelda Bingo Quest printable is available now through Play Nintendo.

Hasbro Reveals The Legend of Zelda: Heroes of Hyrule Action Figures

Hasbro Action Figures

Hasbro has finally lifted the curtain on its first wave of The Legend of Zelda action figures, giving fans an early look at a new collector line called Heroes of Hyrule.

The opening assortment includes Link, Princess Zelda, and Ganondorf, all based on their appearances in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. That answers one of the biggest questions surrounding Hasbro’s recently announced partnership with Nintendo. Despite speculation that the first toys could be tied to the upcoming live-action Zelda movie, the company is beginning with designs taken directly from the games. r is sold separately and features more than 20 points of articulation, detailed game-inspired sculpting, and accessories associated with their role in Tears of the Kingdom.

Link Comes Ready for Battle

Hasbro Link Action Figure

Link stands approximately six inches tall and wears the updated Champion’s Leathers seen throughout Tears of the Kingdom. Hasbro has also included a fabric cape, which should give collectors more freedom when posing the figure without relying on a stiff plastic piece.

His accessories include the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and an interchangeable hand depicting the Zonai arm given to him by Rauru. The figure’s articulation should allow Link to hold his weapons in several familiar combat poses or recreate moments from the game. ail for $27.99.

Princess Zelda Appears in Her Ancient-Era Outfit

Hasbro Princess Zelda Action Figure

Rather than using Zelda’s modern Hyrulean clothing, Hasbro selected the ceremonial Zonai-inspired outfit she wears after being transported into Hyrule’s distant past.

The six-inch Zelda figure includes the Decayed Master Sword and an interchangeable sword-gripping hand. Like Link, she features more than 20 points of articulation and a sculpt based closely on her in-game character model. ster Sword is an especially fitting accessory. It plays a major role in Zelda’s story after she receives the damaged weapon from Link and begins preparing it for the battle still to come.

Princess Zelda is also priced at $27.99.

Ganondorf Towers Over the Rest of the Line

Hasbro Ganondorf Action Figure

Ganondorf is technically part of the same six-inch scale, but the Demon King himself stands approximately 7.5 inches tall, making him noticeably larger than Link and Zelda.

His figure captures the long red hair, elaborate clothing, jewelry, and imposing proportions of his revived Tears of the Kingdom form. Accessories include a Gloom Sword, a matching scabbard, and an interchangeable sword-gripping hand. He also features more than 20 points of articulation despite his larger size and more elaborate design. ries a higher price of $42.99, reflecting the figure’s added height and more complex sculpt.

Heroes of Hyrule Pricing and Release Window

The first three figures are scheduled to arrive in Spring 2027 at Hasbro Pulse, Amazon, Walmart, fan-channel stores, and other participating retailers.

The announced prices are:

  • Link: $27.99
  • Princess Zelda: $27.99
  • Ganondorf: $42.99

Preorders opened on July 22, 2026. As of July 25, Hasbro Pulse lists Link and Ganondorf as sold out, while the Princess Zelda figure remains available to preorder. Availability may differ at other retailers and will likely continue to change before the figures are released. s of the figures are also being displayed at Hasbro’s booth during San Diego Comic-Con, which runs through July 26. ly the Beginning of Hasbro’s Zelda Line

Nintendo and Hasbro described their agreement as a multi-year licensing partnership, meaning Heroes of Hyrule is not expected to end with these three figures. Hasbro has specifically highlighted its experience with both action figures and role-play products, opening the door for a much broader range of Zelda merchandise in the future. Hyrule branding also appears broad enough to accommodate characters from other games. While Hasbro has not announced a second wave, its product descriptions refer to collectibles featuring characters from across the series rather than limiting the range exclusively to Tears of the Kingdom. lenty of possibilities. Classic versions of Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf would be obvious candidates, but the Zelda series has no shortage of characters suited to a collector-focused line. Midna, Skull Kid, Sheik, the Champions, the Sages, and even larger enemies could all eventually find a place on store shelves.

For now, Tears of the Kingdom provides Hasbro with a recognizable and visually detailed starting point. The real test will be whether Heroes of Hyrule grows into the expansive, game-spanning Zelda figure collection that fans have wanted for years.

Hasbro Announces New Legend of Zelda Toy Line Launching in 2027

Link action figure mock up

The Legend of Zelda is getting a new line of toys from one of the biggest names in the business.

Hasbro logo

Hasbro has announced a multi-year licensing agreement with Nintendo to develop new products based on The Legend of Zelda franchise. The partnership will officially begin in 2027, but fans will not have to wait that long for their first look. Hasbro plans to reveal three six-inch-scale figures during San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place from July 23 through July 26, 2026.

For now, that is nearly everything Hasbro is willing to share.

The company has not announced which characters will be included in the first wave, what games will inspire their designs, how much the figures will cost or where they will be sold. Even the official name of the collection remains under wraps.

Still, the announcement alone is a fairly big deal for Zelda collectors.

Why the Six-Inch Scale Matters

That six-inch measurement is likely to catch the attention of anyone familiar with Hasbro’s major collector lines.

Marvel Legends, Star Wars: The Black Series and G.I. Joe Classified Series all regularly use a six-inch scale, often pairing detailed sculpts with multiple points of articulation, interchangeable parts and character-specific accessories. Hasbro has not said that its Zelda figures will follow the same formula, but the shared scale offers an encouraging point of comparison.

A properly equipped Link figure, for example, could potentially include the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, alternate hands and other equipment. Zelda has no shortage of possible accessories either, while larger characters such as Ganondorf could give Hasbro an opportunity to experiment with deluxe releases.

That is all speculation, of course. Hasbro has not confirmed Link, Zelda, Ganondorf or any other character for the first three reveals.

Those three are certainly the most obvious candidates for an introductory wave, but Nintendo and Hasbro could just as easily focus on a particular game. The figures could be based on Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Ocarina of Time, the upcoming live-action film or something else entirely.

Until Comic-Con, guessing is part of the fun.

Action Figures May Only Be the Beginning

Hasbro’s announcement refers broadly to new Zelda “products,” rather than limiting the partnership to action figures.

Billy Lagor, president of toys and board games at Hasbro, specifically highlighted the company’s experience with both action and role-play products. According to Lagor, the goal is to combine Nintendo’s characters and storytelling with toys that allow fans to create adventures of their own.

The reference to role-play is especially interesting. Hasbro already produces wearable helmets, masks, prop weapons and other life-sized collectibles for several licensed properties. That does not mean a Master Sword, Hylian Shield or Sheikah Slate replica is currently in development, but the wording leaves room for the partnership to expand beyond traditional figures.

Vehicles, creatures and playsets would also make sense if the collection proves successful. Hyrule has decades of characters and locations for Hasbro to explore, ranging from familiar enemies like Bokoblins and Moblins to companions such as Midna, Tingle, Sidon and the Champions.

The real test will be whether Hasbro is willing to dig beyond the safest character choices. Link variants are inevitable in almost any Zelda merchandise line. A long-running collection featuring villains, supporting characters and designs from several different games would be much more exciting.

Could the Toys Be Connected to the Zelda Movie?

The 2027 launch also happens to place the collection in the same year as Nintendo and Sony’s live-action Legend of Zelda movie.

The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 30, 2027, after being moved forward from its previous May 7 date.

The Legend of Zelda is getting a new line of toys from one of the biggest names in the business.

That timing will naturally raise questions about whether Hasbro has been selected to produce toys based on the movie. At the moment, there is no confirmation of any connection. Hasbro’s announcement discusses the Zelda franchise as a whole and does not mention the film, its cast or movie-specific products.

It is possible the company’s agreement covers both game-inspired and film-inspired merchandise. It is equally possible that the first figures have nothing to do with the movie. Fans should not assume that the Comic-Con reveals will feature Benjamin Evan Ainsworth’s version of Link or Bo Bragason’s Princess Zelda unless Hasbro says so.

Even without a direct movie tie-in, launching a major toy line during one of the biggest years in Zelda history would make plenty of sense.

The First Figures Will Be Revealed at Comic-Con

The wait for concrete answers should be relatively short.

The Legend of Zelda is getting a new line of toys from one of the biggest names in the business.

San Diego Comic-Con begins on Thursday, July 23, with Preview Night taking place on July 22. Hasbro has only confirmed that the Zelda figures will be revealed during the convention, so the exact date, presentation and location of the unveiling remain unknown.

Collectors will be watching closely for the character selection, level of articulation, accessories and packaging. Pricing and availability will be just as important, particularly if the collection includes retailer exclusives or products sold primarily through Hasbro Pulse.

Whatever Hasbro has planned, this partnership has the potential to become one of the most substantial Zelda action figure lines released to date. Three figures are only the beginning, and the company now has nearly four decades of Hyrule history to work with.

Zelda Central will have full coverage when Hasbro reveals the first figures at San Diego Comic-Con.

Lon Lon Ranch Reborn in Breath of the Wild Thanks to Impressive Fan Mod

One of the most iconic locations in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been brought back in stunning fashion. A new fan-made mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fully restores Lon Lon Ranch, transforming the familiar ruins into a lively, fully realized destination.

A Classic Location Returns to Life

One of the most iconic locations in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been brought back in stunning fashion. A new fan-made mod for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild fully restores Lon Lon Ranch, transforming the familiar ruins into a lively, fully realized destination.

Link and Malon at Lon Lon Ranch from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

In the base game, the ranch exists only as a quiet reminder of Hyrule’s past. But this mod imagines what the area might have looked like before the Calamity, breathing new life into a location many fans still hold close.

A Living, Breathing Ranch

Rather than simply rebuilding the structures, the mod goes much further by turning Lon Lon Ranch into a functional hub filled with activity. Players can encounter familiar faces like Malon, Talon, and Ingo, all reimagined within Breath of the Wild’s world.

There are also some unexpected additions. One standout inclusion is Aryll, Link’s sister from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, who appears as an elderly NPC. This ties into unused concepts that never made it into the final version of Breath of the Wild, offering a fascinating “what could have been” glimpse into the game’s development.

The ranch even features a working shop run by Malon, allowing players to purchase cooking ingredients, adding another layer of immersion to the experience.

New Details and Hidden Discoveries

Exploration plays a big role in the mod as well. The tower overlooking the ranch is fully accessible, rewarding curious players with lore and items. Inside, you can discover a diary belonging to a new character named Lynn, along with treasure chests containing worn clothing items that hint at the ranch’s history.

One of the most impressive touches is how seamlessly the ranch integrates into the game. The newly restored buildings appear on the mini-map as if they were always part of Hyrule, making the experience feel surprisingly natural.

A Glimpse Into Hyrule’s Past

At its core, this project is more than just a visual overhaul. It offers a reimagining of Hyrule before its fall, giving players the chance to experience a version of the world that Breath of the Wild only hinted at.

Fans have long speculated about what places like Lon Lon Ranch looked like before they were reduced to ruins. This mod answers that question in a way that feels both nostalgic and fresh, blending the charm of Ocarina of Time with the scale and freedom of Breath of the Wild.

Why This Mod Matters

Fan projects like this highlight just how passionate the Zelda community continues to be. By combining deep knowledge of the series with modern tools, creators are able to expand on Nintendo’s worlds in ways that feel authentic.

For longtime fans, seeing Lon Lon Ranch restored is more than a technical achievement. It is a reminder of how impactful these locations were and how much they still mean decades later.

Rumor: Zelda Remake Talk Grows After a Surprisingly Quiet 40th Anniversary

Ocarina of time on Switch

The Legend of Zelda has officially crossed a massive milestone, but if you were expecting a big celebration from Nintendo, you probably noticed something strange.

February 21, 2026 marked 40 years since the original game launched in Japan, officially cementing Zelda as one of gaming’s longest-running and most influential series.

And yet… the moment came and went with very little fanfare.

Now, that silence is doing something interesting.
It’s making rumors about a major Zelda remake feel more believable than ever.

The 40th Anniversary Came… and Nintendo Stayed Quiet

For longtime fans, the lack of a major announcement has been one of the biggest talking points of the year.

Reports and industry commentary have pointed out that Nintendo didn’t deliver a major celebration, Direct, or flagship game reveal tied directly to the anniversary date.

That might sound surprising, but historically, Nintendo doesn’t always treat anniversaries the way fans expect. Instead of celebrating on the exact date, the company often ties major announcements to its broader release schedule.

In other words, just because nothing happened in February doesn’t mean nothing is coming.

Why the Remake Rumor Still Holds Weight

This is where the current rumor cycle starts to make more sense.

Multiple reports suggest Nintendo is planning a major Zelda remake for 2026, potentially arriving later in the year rather than alongside the anniversary itself.

If that’s true, it would line up perfectly with Nintendo’s usual strategy:

  • Don’t rush announcements for a specific date
  • Align major releases with hardware momentum and marketing windows
  • Let the game itself be the celebration

And if you look at Zelda’s history, that approach checks out.

Zelda’s History With Remakes and Anniversary Timing

Zelda has never followed a simple pattern when it comes to anniversaries.

For example:

The 25th anniversary brought

  • The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

The 30th anniversary gave us

  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

But these weren’t always tied neatly to a single date. They were spread out and tied to releases.

That’s why the current situation feels familiar rather than alarming.

The Wind Waker HD Factor Fans Keep Bringing Up

One of the biggest ongoing conversations in the Zelda community isn’t just about remakes—it’s about availability.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

Both already exist… but they’re still stuck on Wii U.

That creates a unique situation:

  • Nintendo has already remastered these games
  • They are among the most requested Switch (or Switch 2) ports
  • Yet they remain unreleased on modern hardware

At the same time, Nintendo has shown a willingness to reintroduce older versions of these games through other means, rather than simply porting the HD editions.

So when rumors suggest a brand-new remake instead, it raises an important possibility:

Nintendo may be prioritizing new interpretations over straightforward ports.

Why Ocarina of Time Keeps Leading the Conversation

If there’s one game that consistently shows up in remake rumors, it’s The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and at this point, it’s not hard to see why.

Ocarina of Time sits in a unique position:

  • Already remade once on 3DS
  • Still widely considered one of the greatest games ever made
  • Not currently available on modern hardware in a fully modernized form

A simple port wouldn’t be enough anymore.
But a true modern remake could serve as both a celebration of Zelda’s past and a showcase for its future.

The Legend of Zelda has officially crossed a massive milestone, but if you were expecting a big celebration from Nintendo, you probably noticed something strange.
Per Metacritic, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the highest rated game ever

The Bigger Picture: This Might Be a “Delayed Celebration”

Looking at everything together, the situation becomes clearer.

Zelda’s 40th anniversary wasn’t ignored. It just hasn’t fully happened yet.

We’ve already seen smaller pieces of the celebration roll out:

  • Updates for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • New collectibles and merchandise
  • Continued expansion of the brand with a live-action movie in development

But the big centerpiece release still feels missing.

And that’s exactly where this rumored remake fits in.

Final Thoughts for Zelda Fans

Right now, the most important context is this:

The anniversary has already passed…

and Nintendo still hasn’t shown its hand.

That doesn’t weaken the remake rumors. If anything, it strengthens them.

Because if history tells us anything, it’s that Nintendo doesn’t celebrate Zelda with announcements.

It celebrates Zelda with games.

And if a major remake really is coming later this year, it won’t just be tied to the 40th anniversary.

It will be the 40th anniversary.

Princess Zelda Voice Actress Learned Twilight Princess Hylian “Over Coffee”

Patricia Summerset

For most actors, preparing for a role might involve studying scripts or researching a character’s history. For the voice of Princess Zelda, the preparation went a little further into the lore of Hyrule itself.

Patricia Summersett, the actress who voices Zelda in several modern entries in the series including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, recently revealed that she taught herself to read and write the Hylian script used in Twilight Princess.

According to Summersett, the journey began while she was preparing for her role as Zelda during the development of Breath of the Wild. While looking through the series companion book Hyrule Historia, she came across the various fictional languages used across the franchise. One in particular caught her attention.

She explained that the version of Hylian seen in Twilight Princess stood out to her because of how elegant it looked. The script resembles a stylized alphabet used throughout the game world, appearing on signs, architecture, and written documents across Hyrule.

Summersett decided she wanted to learn it.

Learning the Language of Hyrule

Rather than studying it formally, Summersett began practicing casually. She said she would spend time learning the characters while sitting with a cup of coffee, gradually memorizing the alphabet until she could comfortably write with it.

Over time, the practice paid off. Summersett says she can now write in the script fluently and still uses it regularly.

Her dedication has also become a fun surprise for fans. When attending conventions, she sometimes writes notes or messages in Twilight Princess Hylian for fans who recognize the symbols. It is a small detail, but one that shows just how deeply she appreciates the world of The Legend of Zelda.

A Unique Bond With the Character

Summersett holds a unique place in the history of the series. When Breath of the Wild launched in 2017, she became the first official English voice for Princess Zelda in a mainline game.

That milestone came with plenty of expectations from longtime fans. Her approach to the role has always reflected a strong respect for the franchise’s lore and legacy.

Learning an in-universe writing system might not be required preparation for a voice acting role. Still, for a series as beloved as The Legend of Zelda, it feels fitting.

And if you ever meet Summersett at a convention, you might walk away with a message written in the language of Hyrule itself.

The creator behind this remarkable design goes by the name NintenFan, and their work offers a nostalgic trip for Zelda fans everywhere.

Using the terraforming tools and furniture options available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, NintenFan built an island that closely follows the iconic map layout from the original The Legend of Zelda. Although the scale has been adjusted to fit Animal Crossing’s island format, the overall structure stays true to the game’s classic look.

What Makes This Hyrule Recreation Special

Fans of The Legend of Zelda will find plenty to recognize in this island:

  • The entrance to the first cave, where Link traditionally finds his wooden sword, has been recreated with clever use of props and design.
  • Multiple dungeon entrances are placed around the island, mirroring their positions on the original game’s overworld map.
  • Players even used critters like crabs to represent traditional Zelda enemies such as Tektites, adding both charm and nostalgic detail.

This project shows how Animal Crossing’s open design systems can be used for ambitious tributes to other video game worlds. The creator’s use of everyday items and landscape features to mimic Zelda locations highlights the imagination of crossover fans in both communities.

Eiji Aonuma Hints at How Hyrule Warriors Could Influence the Next Zelda Game

The Sealed Chronicles depicts a history that TotK only knew fragments of through Tears of the Kingdom.

Nintendo’s long-running Legend of Zelda series may be taking creative cues from one of its recent spin-offs for the next mainline adventure. Eiji Aonuma, the producer who has guided the franchise for years, dropped some intriguing remarks in a new interview that point to inspiration drawn from Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment and how that experience could shape what comes after Tears of the Kingdom.

In the discussion with Japanese publication 4Gamer, Aonuma reflected on the collaborative process behind the Koei Tecmo-developed Age of Imprisonment. He chuckled about how Nintendo had hoped to be the first to launch a Zelda title on the Nintendo Switch 2, but instead the spin-off claimed that milestone. Working closely with Koei Tecmo’s team, however, was clearly valuable for Nintendo’s own developers. Aonuma said the creative exchange “may be reflected in the Zelda we create” in the future and encouraged fans to imagine what that might look like while playing Age of Imprisonment.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment arrived on Nintendo Switch 2 in late 2025, offering a high-octane hack-and-slash retelling of the Imprisoning War period depicted in Tears of the Kingdom. Like previous Warriors titles, it blends Zelda lore and characters with intense crowd-combat action inspired by Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors games.

Aonuma’s comments did not go as far as to confirm specifics about the next mainline Zelda experience. He did not outline gameplay systems or narrative direction, and he stopped short of saying any particular Warriors mechanics would be adopted wholesale. What comes through clearly is that Nintendo is thinking broadly about the series’ future and is open to absorbing ideas from different creative partners.

Fans have reacted with a mix of excitement and speculation. Some see the possibility that future Zelda entries might incorporate more dynamic combat or storytelling approaches influenced by Age of Imprisonment, while others hope the core adventure and world exploration that define the series remain intact. Regardless, Aonuma’s remarks underline that Nintendo’s team is actively exploring fresh directions as the franchise approaches its 40th anniversary era.

For now, concrete details on the next mainline Zelda game remain scarce, but Aonuma’s hints suggest that Nintendo’s creative horizon is expanding with every collaboration. Fans can continue to enjoy Age of Imprisonment and look for the subtle threads of inspiration that might point toward what’s coming next for Link and Hyrule.
