Death Mountain West Tunnel

Death Mountain West Tunnel is a hot mine tunnel on the western side of Death Mountain, at the Death Mountain West Site. It holds Mota, a trapped Goron laborer, a buried chest and a Bubbulfrog that drops a Bubbul Gem. Trade the gems to Koltin in The Hunt for Bubbul Gems!

How to find it

The entrance is at map coordinates 2238, 2682, at the Death Mountain West Site. Mine carts sit just outside, and a couple of fans lie nearby that you can attach to one. The interior is scorching, so wear at least one piece of Flame Guard gear or eat a fireproof meal first.

Inside the cave

Follow the mine rails to Mota

Enter the tunnel and follow the old mine rails; take the Brightbloom Seeds growing by the entrance to light the way. The track breaks at the first lava pool, so climb the rock wall to get around it. Mota, a stranded Goron laborer, waits on the far side, and speaking to him starts The Abandoned Laborer. Use Ultrahand to set the nearby mine cart back on the track.

Break the rubble and open the chest

Past Mota, the passage is choked with rubble. Smash it with a rock-breaking weapon or let Yunobo charge it. Behind it, pull the buried treasure chest out of the ground with Ultrahand; it holds a Cobble Crusher (a stronger version of it, depending on your progress). One guide lists a Boulder Breaker in this chest instead, but most sources say Cobble Crusher. To finish the quest, attach Rockets (from the back room, or your own) to the sides of the cart with Mota inside, then shoot an arrow at them to launch him out of the cave. Talk to him again afterwards for a Large Zonai Charge.

Defeat the Bubbulfrog

The Bubbulfrog is in the room to the left of the buried Rockets, past some Marbled Rock that only Yunobo’s charge can break. It sits up on the wall; shoot it down with an arrow and defeat it to collect a Bubbul Gem. You also find Brightbloom Seeds, Rockets and Fans past the rock.
