The four regional temples can be done in any order and each one gives you a Heart Container and a sage; Hyrule Castle, the Spirit Temple and the last two dungeons follow in story order. The Kohga mines are optional side content in the Depths. Use the order below, and the short entries to decide which to do first.
Order of play
Start with whichever regional phenomenon appeals: Purah first mentions Hebra, so the Wind Temple is the common first pick, but Fire, Water and Lightning each stand alone and you can switch freely. Finish all four, then return to Hyrule Castle for Phantom Ganon (Crisis at Hyrule Castle). Purah then reveals the fifth sage: do the Spirit Temple (Guidance from Ages Past, after Find the Fifth Sage), and finally descend into Gloom’s Lair, which leads straight to the sky finale. Do the Great Abandoned Central Mine whenever you can reach the Depths; its three follow-up mines come after it and can wait until you want the rewards.
- Wind Temple: Tulin, Stormwind Ark over Hebra, boss Colgera.
- Fire Temple: Yunobo, under Death Mountain in Eldin, boss Marbled Gohma.
- Water Temple: Sidon, above Wellspring Island in Lanayru, boss Mucktorok.
- Lightning Temple: Riju, in the Gerudo Desert, boss Queen Gibdo.
- Hyrule Castle: Phantom Ganon in the Sanctum.
- Spirit Temple: Mineru, in the Faron Depths, boss Seized Construct.
- Gloom’s Lair: the Demon King’s Army and Demon King Ganondorf, under Hyrule Castle.
- Central Hyrule sky finale: the Demon Dragon.
- The four mines: Master Kohga’s hideouts, any time after you reach the Depths.
The five temples
Wind Temple
What it is: the Legendary Stormwind Ark, a flying ship caught in a blizzard above the Hebra Mountains, reached with Tulin of the Rito after the Tulin of Rito Village quest. Who comes with you: Tulin. Layout: five turbines on the deck and inside the ship open the main hatch, and there are 10 chests. Boss and reward: Colgera, a Heart Container and the Vow of Tulin. Bring: two levels of cold resistance and arrows.
Fire Temple
What it is: a mine-cart temple under Death Mountain in the Eldin Canyon Depths, reached after Yunobo of Goron City. Who comes with you: Yunobo, whose charge breaks barriers and rings gongs. Layout: five gongs release five padlocks on the main gate; 13 fixed chests plus one more from the Fire Like. Boss and reward: Marbled Gohma, a Heart Container and the Vow of Yunobo. Bring: Flamebreaker Armor or a Fireproof Elixir and metal, stone or Zonaite weapons.
Water Temple
What it is: the temple above Wellspring Island in the Lanayru sky, reached after Sidon of the Zora. Who comes with you: Sidon. Layout: four faucets to activate with Sidon’s water power and 7 chests. Boss and reward: Mucktorok, a Heart Container and the Vow of Sidon. Bring: Splash Fruit or Chuchu Jelly and arrows.
Lightning Temple
What it is: a pyramid raised from the Gerudo Desert by a three-pillar light puzzle, reached after Riju of Gerudo Town. Who comes with you: Riju. Layout: four batteries to charge, each opening a new section, and 7 chests. Boss and reward: Queen Gibdo, a Heart Container and the Vow of Riju. Bring: heat-resistant gear and bows with elemental arrows for the Gibdos.
Spirit Temple
What it is: the Vessel of Spirit’s Resting Place in the far south-east of the Faron Depths (about 1418, -3170, -619). You rebuild Mineru’s Construct from four depot parts at the Construct Factory and ride it there during Guidance from Ages Past. Who comes with you: Mineru. Layout: not a puzzle dungeon: a long ride to a boxing-ring arena. Boss and reward: Seized Construct (push it into the electrified ropes), a Heart Container, Mineru’s Secret Stone and the Vow of Mineru. Bring: Zonai Charges, hearty meals and a rocket for the last ledge.
The final dungeons
Hyrule Castle (dungeon)
What it is: the floating castle north of Lookout Landing, an open climb rather than a lock-and-key dungeon from the Second Gatehouse up to the Sanctum. The quest Crisis at Hyrule Castle stays open until the regional temples are done. Who comes with you: nobody; you go alone. Layout: about 21 chests of Royal gear, Serutabomac Shrine and 6 Korok seeds. Boss and reward: Phantom Ganon and its copies, a Heart Container, the Demon King’s Bow and the Gloom Sword. Bring: free weapon, bow and shield slots and Sundelion meals.
Gloom’s Lair
What it is: the Depths beneath Hyrule Castle, entered through Hyrule Castle Chasm during Destroy Ganondorf. Who comes with you: the sages you have awakened fight beside you in the army battle. Layout: a descent to the Imprisoning Chamber, then waves of the Demon King’s Army with no chance to restock. Boss and reward: the Demon King’s Army and then Demon King Ganondorf; the fight leads straight to the Demon Dragon. Bring: Ironshroom Defense Up meals, Sundelion meals and 150 or more arrows.
Central Hyrule sky finale
What it is: the last battle in the sky above Central Hyrule. Who comes with you: the Light Dragon carries you. Layout: a flying boss fight with four glowing weak spots on the dragon’s back. Boss and reward: the Demon Dragon; striking its forehead ends the main story. Bring: the Master Sword and full hearts, as no cooking is possible.
The Kohga mines
Master Kohga leads the Yiga Clan from four abandoned mines in the Depths. Each is a short trip with one fight and a chest of Huge Crystallized Charge (the last mine adds a Diamond), plus a Steward Construct that hands out a vehicle schematic. They are not part of the story, and they connect through the Master Kohga of the Yiga Clan side adventure.
Great Abandoned Central Mine
Where: Central Hyrule Depths at (-731, -1861, -405). What: A Mystery in the Depths; repair carts to learn Autobuild, then fight Kohga’s wheeled machine. Reward: Autobuild, a Huge Crystallized Charge and the Fanplane schematic.
Abandoned Gerudo Mine
Where: Gerudo Canyon Depths at (-3816, -2890, -383), near Gonatoyros Lightroot. What: fight Kohga behind a green eye shield; use homing arrows. Reward: a Huge Crystallized Charge and the Hovercraft schematic.
Abandoned Lanayru Mine
Where: Lanayru Great Spring Depths at (3170, 936, -677), reached from Kawagom Lightroot. What: cross black water and fight Kohga on a plank walkway. Reward: a Huge Crystallized Charge and the Bolt Boat schematic.
Abandoned Hebra Mine
Where: Hebra Depths at (-3457, 1862, -316), below Rito Village Chasm. What: Kohga’s giant construct in a barbed-wire arena, the hardest fight of the four. Reward: a Huge Crystallized Charge, a Diamond and the Rocket Platform schematic.
Which should you do first?
- First regional temple: the Wind Temple, since Purah sends you to Hebra first; none of the four is gated behind another.
- Shortest temple: the Water Temple and the Lightning Temple each have only 7 chests, so they are quick to clear when you want an easy win.
- Most to prepare for: Gloom’s Lair, which has no restocking; clear the four temples, Hyrule Castle and the Spirit Temple first so every sage joins you.
- Mines: do the Great Abandoned Central Mine for Autobuild early, and the rest when you want Zonai charges and schematics.
