Link learns four abilities on the Great Sky Island, gains Autobuild in the Depths and collects five sage Vows from the temples. This page says where each unlocks and how to use it.

Ultrahand

Ultrahand comes from Ukouh Shrine on the Great Sky Island. Hold the ability button to pick up objects, move them with the stick, rotate them with the shoulder buttons and press the attach button to glue two objects together. Use it to build bridges from planks, rafts, carts and flying machines, and to lift crystals and doors. Press the detach button to take things apart.

Fuse

Fuse is learned at In-isa Shrine. Hold a weapon, shield or arrow, choose Fuse and select a material to attach. Fused weapons gain the material’s attack power and often an effect: fire from a Fire Fruit, ice from an Ice Fruit, or extra reach from a long stick. Fusing a horn or a Keese Wing changes how the weapon behaves. Shields and arrows can be fused too, and fused arrows carry the material’s effect to the target.

Ascend

Ascend is taught at Gutanbac Shrine. Stand under a ceiling, open the ability menu and choose Ascend. You rise through the ceiling and appear on the surface above it. It works through most ceilings and overhangs, but there must be open space above to come out into. Use it to bypass cave ceilings, climb out of shrines and shortcut tall cliffs.

Recall

Recall is taught at Nachoyah Shrine (The Ability to Rewind), the last of the four shrines on the Great Sky Island. Aim at an object that is moving and use Recall to rewind its motion for a few seconds. It reverses moving platforms, falling boulders, stone slabs and a thrown weapon, and it can undo a fall. Recall a boulder to make a bridge for yourself, or use it on a Zonai vehicle to send it back along its path.

Autobuild

Autobuild is unlocked in the Depths during A Mystery in the Depths, when you reach the Zonai Construct in the Great Abandoned Central Mine at the end of the statue trail. You need to have finished Camera Work in the Depths first, and most guides suggest clearing one Regional Phenomena temple before the quest appears. It records anything you build with Ultrahand and lets you rebuild it from nearby Zonai parts or Zonaite. Open the ability menu, pick Autobuild and choose a design from the history or your favorites. Schema Stones and Yiga Schematics add ready-made designs such as the Fanplane and the Hot-Air Balloon.

Sage abilities

After you beat each temple, the sage there gives you a Vow. Equip it from your key items, then summon or dismiss the sage’s avatar with the ability menu. The sage fights on their own while you fight, and they also help with puzzles.

Upgrades and tips

There are 20 Sage’s Wills, four for each sage, mostly in sky island chests (a Gleeok also drops one). Offer four at any Goddess Statue to turn that sage’s Vow into a Solemn Vow, which raises their attack power by roughly a third. Riju’s lightning needs a target and a charged gauge, Yunobo is best aimed down a long corridor, and Sidon’s water protects you from the flame barriers in the Fire Temple. Combine Ultrahand and Recall: attach Fans or a Rocket to a boulder, then recall it back to reuse the build. Always keep some spare Zonai charges for flyers.
