Complete shrines, collect four Lights of Blessing and offer them at a Goddess Statue to choose a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel. You start with 3 hearts and 1 stamina wheel. Hearts and stamina draw on the same pool of Lights, so decide how to split them.

How to trade Lights of Blessing

Offer four Lights at a Goddess Statue

Each shrine you finish gives one Light of Blessing. Pray at any Goddess Statue with four Lights and choose Heart Container or Stamina Vessel. The first statue, in the Temple of Time on the Great Sky Island, offers hearts only; later statues offer both.

Where the Goddess Statues are

RegionStatues
Great Sky IslandTemple of Time (the first statue, which only offers a Heart Container)
Central HyruleLookout Landing (Emergency Shelter); Link’s House southeast of Tarrey Town; Temple of Time Ruins on the Great Plateau; Korok Forest inside the Deku Tree; Mother Goddess Statue at the Forgotten Temple
HebraRito Village
GerudoGerudo Town (southwest of town)
EldinGoron City
NecludaKakariko Village; Hateno Village; Lurelin Village
FaronSpring of Courage
LanayruZora’s Domain (Mipha’s Court); Spring of Wisdom
AkkalaTarrey Town; East Akkala (underground below the stable’s well, past a breakable wall); Spring of Power

The statues at the three springs and the Mother Goddess Statue also give quest rewards. Any statue accepts Lights of Blessing, so use whichever is closest.

Hearts you do not buy

The five temple bosses give a Heart Container each, and Phantom Ganon in Hyrule Castle gives one more, which brings the total from bosses to six. A Call from the Depths, the side adventure that sends you carrying statue eyes to the Bargainer Statue in the Great Abandoned Central Mine, lets you choose a Heart Container or a Stamina Vessel without spending any Lights. Together with 30 bought from Lights of Blessing and your starting 3, that adds up to a maximum of 40 hearts.

Stamina

Stamina starts at one wheel and tops out at three wheels with 10 Stamina Vessels (five per wheel). Each vessel takes four Lights, so a full stamina bar costs 40 Lights. If you take all 10 vessels you can still reach 38 hearts. The Master Sword quest needs two full wheels, so get stamina early if you want the sword before the end of the game.

The Horned Statue

Once you have finished at least one leg of Regional Phenomena (including its temple), talk to Jerrin in the Emergency Shelter under Lookout Landing to start Who Goes There?, then smash the rocks in the crawlspace that opens. At the end is the Horned Statue. It buys one Heart Container or Stamina Vessel for 100 rupees and sells one back for 120, so each swap between hearts and stamina costs a net 20 rupees. It will not take your last heart or stamina.

Which to choose

Stamina matters more for climbing, gliding and the Master Sword, while hearts keep you alive and extend the sword beam’s range. A sensible split is to buy stamina until you have two full wheels, then favor hearts, and use the Horned Statue to rebalance when you need to. Gloom damage removes whole hearts, so extra hearts give you more room in the Depths.
