| Location | The skies above Central Hyrule, after the Depths fight beneath Hyrule Castle |
|---|---|
| Quest | Destroy Ganondorf (final main quest) |
| Region | Central Hyrule Sky |
| Boss | Demon Dragon (the transformed Demon King Ganondorf) |
| Reward | Ends the main story; the completed save returns to just before the final battle |
| Recommended gear | The Master Sword, a paraglider with a glide outfit if you own one; no food or restocking is possible |
The last battle takes place in the sky: you ride the Light Dragon beside the Demon Dragon, glide down to land beside its glowing weak spots, strike each with the Master Sword, and finish with the eye on its forehead. Dying here only restarts this fight, not the one against Ganondorf.
Before you go
There is no way to cook or restock between the Ganondorf fight and this battle, so enter with your hearts in good shape. The Master Sword is the weapon you use to destroy the weak spots, and the Light Dragon will catch you each time you fall, so you only have to worry about the Demon Dragon’s gloom attacks.
Fight the Demon Dragon
Ride the Light Dragon to the Demon Dragon
When Ganondorf falls he transforms and the Light Dragon carries you up into the sky. Drop from its back and glide toward the coils of the Demon Dragon. Avoid the gloom spikes and the red projectiles it fires.

Land beside a weak spot
Glide down to the Demon Dragon’s body and land next to one of the red glowing weak spots, which are clumps of eyes growing from its back and neck. Its gloom attacks are avoidable if you leap off and glide away, and a glide outfit helps.

Destroy all four weak spots
Strike each weak spot with the Master Sword, then jump or glide away. Each hit sends you tumbling, but the Light Dragon swoops in and carries you back up. Repeat until all four are destroyed. If you are knocked off, glide back toward the Light Dragon’s head and it will catch you.

Strike the forehead
When the last weak spot is gone, a light shines from the Demon Dragon’s forehead. Drop onto its head, hit the glowing Secret Stone, and press the prompt shown to make the final strike.

Catch Zelda
After the Demon Dragon falls, Link and Zelda tumble through the sky. Steer toward Zelda and catch her before you reach the ground. The ending follows and the story is complete. The game returns to the title screen after the credits; load the starred save to continue exploring Hyrule from the point before the final battle.
Extra notes
- If you do not already have the Master Sword at this point, the story hands it to you for this fight.
- You can also damage a weak spot by shooting it with arrows while diving close to it, though landing and striking with the Master Sword is faster.
- The red pools on the dragon’s back deal gloom damage, but the lost hearts return once you are back in the air.
- Orbs launched at you during the descent are the main danger; dodge them rather than trying to block.
- On the forehead, two Master Sword strikes on the Secret Stone of Darkness finish the fight. The credits end with a star on your save file, which you can load to keep playing.
Tips and troubleshooting
- You keep missing the landing: Aim ahead of a weak spot and glide in slowly; the dragon’s body is moving, so land next to the spot rather than on it.
- Gloom spikes hurt you: Stay clear of the spiked parts of its back and jump away right after each hit.
- You fall without being caught: Glide toward the Light Dragon’s head until it picks you up.
