Rucco Maag Shrine (Five Flames)

Rucco Maag asks you to light five torches on a movable block while a water jet tries to put them out. Shoot switches to slide the block so no torch sits in the water’s path, with fire arrows or a brazier supplying the flame, and burn two wooden ledges to drop an Opal and a Silver Bow.

How to find it

Travel to the south bank of the Rutala River, south of Ruto Mountain and just above Samasa Plain. The shrine is on open ground near the river. Bring a bow, and ideally fire arrows, as the whole puzzle revolves around fire.

Solution

Understand the room

A large block in the middle of the room carries torch stands, and a water spout is aimed at one of the torches on a pillar beside it. Your goal is to move every torch out of the spout’s path without letting any stand sit in the water.

Move the block with the switches

A cube with three switches slides the block. With the cube between you and the water, shoot the switches in this order: right, top, back, left, front, right, top, back, top.

Alternative: light with a brazier

If you have no fire arrows, light ordinary arrows at the brazier and shoot the switches in this order: bottom, front, left, left, front, right. This is harder to time. When all five torches burn, the barrier opens.

Drop the chests

Two chests rest on wooden ledges on the far wall as you walk in. Shoot each ledge with a fire arrow so it burns and the chest falls to the floor: one holds an Opal and the other a Silver Bow.

Chests and rewards

  • Opal: in one of the two chests on the wooden ledges.
  • Silver Bow: in the other chest on the ledges.
  • Spirit Orb: from the monk once the torches are lit.
