About This Game
Majora’s Mask Randomizer gives one of the most unusual adventures in The Legend of Zelda series an entirely new level of replayability. Developed by ZoeyZolotova and supported by a dedicated community, this free randomizer takes the world of Termina and rearranges item locations, equipment, upgrades, and other gameplay elements to create a different adventure every time.
The familiar three-day cycle remains at the heart of the experience, but knowing where every item is normally found won’t necessarily help you. The Hero’s Bow might be waiting somewhere unexpected, a crucial transformation mask could be hidden behind an unfamiliar challenge, and a seemingly ordinary reward might suddenly become essential to your progress.
Rather than simply scattering items at random, Majora’s Mask Randomizer uses progression logic to build completable adventures. The default settings account for the items and abilities needed to reach different locations, allowing players to explore Termina and gradually piece together a route through the game. Optional advanced settings can introduce additional tricks, altered progression rules, and more unpredictable challenges.
Customization is one of the project’s biggest strengths. Players can shuffle dungeon items, Stray Fairies, songs, item upgrades, boss entrances, and even dungeon entrances. Other options can change shop prices, starting equipment, enemy placement, damage settings, and victory conditions. Cosmetic features include randomized music, sound effects, character colors, and interface adjustments.
For newcomers, the randomizer provides beginner-friendly presets and a spoiler log that can help when progression becomes confusing. Experienced players can adjust the difficulty, enable advanced movement tricks, or generate race seeds for competitive play. The project has also developed an active speedrunning community, with organized races and tournaments built around different randomized challenges.
Unlike a standalone fan game, Majora’s Mask Randomizer modifies the original Nintendo 64 version of Majora’s Mask. Players need their own compatible North American version 1.0 ROM, which can be randomized using the official web-based generator or the downloadable Windows application.
The resulting game can be played through compatible Nintendo 64 emulators, on original Nintendo 64 hardware using supported flash cartridges, or through certain Wii Virtual Console configurations.
Whether you’re returning to Termina for the first time in years or already know every secret hidden across Clock Town, Woodfall, Snowhead, Great Bay, and Ikana Canyon, Majora’s Mask Randomizer offers a compelling way to experience the game from a different perspective.
Majora’s Mask Randomizer is a free, unofficial community project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo. The developers do not distribute copyrighted game ROMs.
