| Missable? | Nothing is lost for good, but ten figurines only join the machine after a specific Kinstone fusion or conversation |
There are 136 figurines in The Minish Cap, and you win every one of them as a random prize from Carlov’s machine by paying Mysterious Shells. The first 130 are available before the credits, six more join the machine once Vaati is beaten, and a handful only enter the pool after a particular Kinstone fusion or conversation. Finish the whole set and Carlov hands you the Carlov Medal.
How Carlov’s machine works
Reaching Carlov’s Statue Shop
You need the Cane of Pacci from the Cave of Flames. In Hyrule Town, flip the large pot inside Mama’s Cafe so it works as a shrinking pot, then shrink and head west over the wooden plank across the stream. Go through the archway of the cabin, use the second shrinking pot there to return to normal size, and walk south into the tree. Carlov’s stand is inside.

Making a drawing
Talk to Carlov and agree to trade. He asks how many shells you want to use: press up or down to change the number (holding R while pressing up adds ten at a time). A box shows your chance of winning a new figurine, then you pull the lever on the machine to the right of the counter. A capsule pops out, the gallery opens on the figurine you won, and Carlov files it in the case on the left so you can look at it any time.

Odds and how many shells to bet
One shell is always enough to try. A single shell starts near 99 percent while your collection is tiny, but the chance drops as you own more, falling to about one in two by the time you hold roughly 70 figurines and to the teens or lower near the end. Each extra shell you add improves the chance by about one percentage point, so the last twenty or so figurines are worth betting with a bigger stack of shells. Shells are capped at 999 in your wallet.

You can only win a figurine that is in the pool: the character must be someone you have already met, and the pool grows with story progress and a few fusions (see the table below). The machine does not hand out duplicates. When you own everything currently available, Carlov tells you he has nothing left for now; do not keep trading, since the chance is zero and a glitch has been reported that can produce a bogus “new” figurine and block the Carlov Medal.
When new figurines unlock
Carlov starts with 48 figurines in the machine. The rest are added as the story moves along: finishing the Temple of Droplets, Palace of Winds, Fortress of Winds, Cave of Flames and the Royal Crypt each adds a batch, as does your first trip into the Western Wood and your first step into the Palace of Winds. Ten more need a Kinstone fusion or a particular conversation, and the last six (131-136) arrive when you defeat Vaati. The table at the bottom lists every figurine with the stage it joins the pool. The grouping follows one detailed written source, so a figurine may turn up slightly earlier or later than listed.

Figurines that need a Kinstone fusion or special action
Marcy (010) comes from fusing Kinstones with the Postman. Crenel Hermit (024) joins after you talk to him in his Mt. Crenel cave. Joy Butterfly (036) needs a fusion with Din, Nayru or Farore at the Happy Hearth Inn, and a second one after Gorman has moved in. Gina (037) comes from a fusion with Dampé. Goron (045) comes from finishing the Goron Cave fusions and opening the chest in the innermost cave. Goron Merchant (066) needs a fusion with the Goron outside the Goron Cave. Spookter & Spekter (067) needs a fusion with Spookter in the graveyard before Spekter leaves town. Beedle (022) is only added after you use the Gust Jar on the rug in the town square.

Golden Octorok, Golden Tektite and Golden Rope (111-113)
Each golden enemy must have been spawned by a Kinstone fusion before its figurine can drop. Make one Golden Octorok, one Golden Tektite and one Golden Rope appear and figurines 111, 112 and 113 enter the pool. The exact fusions are on the golden enemies page.

Getting enough shells
Shells turn up in chests, in bushes and under rocks, and as drops from enemies; Kinstone fusions open chests worth 100 to 200 shells each. Stockwell, in Hyrule Town, sells 30 Mysterious Shells for 200 rupees. After you have the Mole Mitts, rupees are easy: dig left of Link’s house and a red rupee is always there, so you can re-enter the house and repeat. The full list of sources is on the Mysterious Shells page.

Rewards for the collection
130 figurines: the collector’s house
Once you own the 130 figurines available before the ending, the rich collector Herb (outside Mama’s Cafe) lets you into his house, the Music House, north of the cafe. Enter by the east door. Inside are three chests holding 200 rupees each (600 in all), a Piece of Heart, and a phonograph that plays the game’s music (28 tracks at this stage). Sources disagree on whether the door needs the Carlov Medal; owning all 136 figurines settles it either way. This is the last of the 44 Pieces of Heart, listed on the Heart Piece Locations page.

136 figurines: the Carlov Medal
Beat Vaati, reload your save and win the final six: Zelda & Link (131), Minish Ezlo (132), Black Knight (133), Vaati Reborn (134), Vaati Transfigured (135) and Vaati’s Wrath (136). When the set is complete Carlov praises your collection and gives you the Carlov Medal, and the phonograph now plays 52 tracks. The medal replaces Mysterious Shells: Stockwell stops selling them and chests that held shells give rupees instead.

Quick tips
- Draw as you go: spending shells early, when one shell is nearly a sure win, saves a large stack of shells for the end.
- Check the gallery for missing numbers, then use the table to see which stage or fusion adds them.
- If Carlov says there is nothing left but the gallery shows gaps, advance the story or make the missing fusion first.
- Keep a few hundred spare shells and some rupees for Stockwell before the final stretch.
