Link’s Awakening has three Ocarina songs. Marin teaches the Ballad of the Wind Fish, which moves the Walrus and later opens the Wind Fish’s Egg. Manbo the Sun Fish teaches Manbo’s Mambo, a warp song. Mamu the frog teaches the Frog’s Song of Soul for 300 rupees, which revives the Flying Rooster and opens Turtle Rock. You cannot play any song until you carry the Ocarina from the Dream Shrine and know at least one.

Getting the Ocarina
Move the heavy stones in front of the Dream Shrine in Mabe Village with the Power Bracelet, go in and sleep in the bed. Cross the dream room with the Pegasus Boots or spin attacks against the Arm-Mimics, open the chest for 100 rupees and lift the Ocarina from its pedestal. The full route is in the Yarna Desert chapter.

How to play a song on Switch
Equip the Ocarina on X or Y from the item menu, then press that button in the field. A list of the songs you know appears; pick one and confirm, and Link plays it for you, so there are no notes to enter. The exact buttons for browsing the list were not confirmed by the sources used here; the on-screen prompt shows them.

Ballad of the Wind Fish
Where to learn it
Once you have the Ocarina, talk to Marin in Animal Village or by the Weather Vane in Mabe Village and she teaches you the song. Bring her to the sleeping Walrus on the path to Yarna Desert; when you talk to him, she sings the Ballad and he wakes up and swims away. Follow the Yarna Desert chapter.

What it does
Once the Walrus has gone, playing it yourself near where he slept makes him surface again, and a Secret Seashell flies up into your hands. Later, with all eight Instruments, play it in front of the Wind Fish’s Egg on Mt. Tamaranch to crack the shell open. See the final chapter.

Manbo’s Mambo
Where to learn it
You need the Flippers. Swim to the cliff face just west of the entrance to Angler’s Tunnel and dive into the cave flanked by fish carvings. Manbo the Sun Fish asks whether you have an Ocarina; say yes, play along, and he teaches you the Mambo. Details are in the Martha’s Bay chapter.

What it does
Play it outdoors to open a “Where to?” map and pick any warp point you have switched on, or Manbo’s Pond. Play it inside a dungeon and you return to the entrance. Light up the warp pads on the way first, otherwise they do not appear on the list.

Frog’s Song of Soul
Where to learn it
Solve the Signpost Maze in Ukuku Prairie by reading each sign and following its arrow; a wrong turn sends you back. At the end stairs open to Mamu’s cave. Pay him 300 rupees and play along. You can only learn it once, because Mamu leaves afterwards. See the Southern Face Shrine chapter. Several guides state that you need the Hookshot to reach the maze.

What it does
Play it over the bird bones under the Weather Vane in Mabe Village to revive the Flying Rooster, which carries you over gaps in the Tal Tal Mountain Range (Eagle’s Tower chapter). Play it again in front of the stone head in the Western Tal Tal Mountains to start the fight that opens Turtle Rock (Turtle Rock chapter).

Tips
- Light every warp pad before relying on the Mambo.
- Keep 300 rupees ready for Mamu; he cannot be visited again.
- Play the Ballad at the Egg only after you hold all eight Instruments.
