The Minish Cap hands you most of its tools in a fixed order: the Gust Jar in Deepwood Shrine, the Cane of Pacci in the Cave of Flames, the Mole Mitts in the Fortress of Winds, the Flame Lantern in the Temple of Droplets and Roc’s Cape in the Palace of Winds. Everything else comes from a shopkeeper, a chest, a Minish who needs a favour or a Kinstone fusion. The table lists every item in the order a normal game finds them, and the sections after it tell you exactly where to pick each one up and what it is for.

The five dungeon items
Gust Jar
Beat the mini-boss Madderpillar in Deepwood Shrine and a big chest appears in the room. Open it for the Gust Jar and put it on a button. Hold the button to suck air in and release to blow it out. It clears cobwebs and sand, pulls mushrooms so you can launch across gaps, drives lily pads like a boat and takes the mask off Helmasaurs and the shroud off Vaati’s eyes later in the game.

Cane of Pacci
In the Cave of Flames, drop into the room of eight small Spiny Chuchus. Clear them and a big chest holds the Cane of Pacci. Aim it at an object to flip it over: carts, shells and enemies. Point it at the round holes you see in the overworld and you jump out of a matching hole somewhere else, which is how you reach the Great Butterfly Fairy, the Eastern Hills and the plateau north of Lon Lon Ranch.

Mole Mitts
Inside the Fortress of Winds, bomb the cracked wall near the corridor with three matching tiles and open the big blue chest in the sand room behind it. The Mole Mitts dig through sand and soft ground. They open the Mole Mitts caves on Mt. Crenel, at Lake Hylia and on Veil Falls, and you use them again against Mazaal.

Flame Lantern
Defeat the Big Blue Chuchu in the Temple of Droplets and a big chest rises in the middle of the room. The Flame Lantern lights torches and bushes, widens your view in dark rooms such as Royal Valley and the Veil Falls tunnels, and melts ice.

Roc’s Cape
Roc’s Cape is in the big chest that rises after the Wizzrobe waves in the spike-floor room of the Palace of Winds. Press the button to jump and hold it to glide farther. It carries you over gaps, mesh floors and the Cloud Tops, rings the Hyrule Town bell and powers the Down Thrust technique.

Other required items
Small Shield and Smith’s Sword
At the Picori Festival in Hyrule Town, Zelda wins a prize drawing and hands you the Small Shield. After Vaati attacks, King Daltus gives you Smith’s Sword in the castle throne room (see The Picori Festival and the Minish Woods). Hold up the shield to bounce a Business Scrub’s nuts back at it.

Bombs and the Bomb Bag
Walk west through the Minish Woods to the orange house of Belari, the Minish inventor, and he gives you the Bomb Bag with 10 bombs inside (Ascent to Mount Crenel). Refill with bombs from Business Scrubs, pots and grass. A bigger bag is on the upgrades page.

White Sword
Take the Broken Picori Blade and the Fire Element to Melari at the forge in Melari’s Mines. He gives you the White Sword (Infusing the Picori Blade). It becomes the Four Sword after the Elemental Sanctuary visits.

Pegasus Boots
Rem, the shoemaker in Hyrule Town, is asleep and cannot finish the boots the Minish made. Buy a Wake-Up Mushroom for 60 Rupees at Syrup’s hut in the Minish Woods, return to Rem’s shop, face him and use the mushroom (Getting the Pegasus Boots). Equip the boots with a sword to dash-attack and to ram trees and loosen items.

Boomerang
Stockwell’s Shop in Hyrule Town, the building with a giant Rupee on its roof, sells the Boomerang for 300 Rupees. It stuns most enemies and hits far switches. The Magical Boomerang later replaces it in everyday use.

Bow
As Minish Link, jump across the giant lily pads in Castor Wilds with the Gust Jar and drop into the hole at the far side. Defeat the blue blobs and open the big chest for the Bow and 30 arrows (Castor Wilds and the Wind Ruins). Shoot the eye of each one-eyed statue to break it.

Ocarina of Wind
After Mazaal falls, read the Wind Tribe tablet in the Fortress of Winds and a bird drops the Ocarina of Wind. Play it on the map to call Zeffa and fly to any Wind Crest you have activated (Wind Crests lists all eight).

Power Bracelets
Return the overdue library books. For Dr. Left’s book, enter the cave behind the Hyrule Town fountain at Minish size, beat the four blue Mulldozers and open the chest (The Library Books and the Flippers). Use the bracelets to push the heavy dressers in Dr. Left’s house.

Flippers
Elder Librari takes you into a trial room after you return the library’s books. Cross the river with the Gust Jar and a blue mushroom, beat the two Scissors Beetles and open the big chest. The Flippers let you swim with A and dive with B, which opens Lake Hylia, the Veil Falls dock and many chests.

Four Sword
Collect all four Elements and put them on the pedestals in the Elemental Sanctuary (Dark Hyrule Castle). The sword that Melari forged finally splits you into four Links, which you need for the final puzzles.

Permanent utility items
Jabber Nut
In Minish Village, Festari tells you to find the Jabber Nut in the barrel house in the south-east. Cross the bridge to the roof, climb down the ladder, push the crate aside and eat the nut. From then on you understand every Minish in the village.

Kinstone Bag
Walk to the plaza in Hyrule Town and speak to the Hurdy-Gurdy Man. He gives you the Kinstone Bag and your first Kinstone piece, a blue half. The bag stores pieces until you meet someone who has the matching half. Once you have completed every fusion, Tingle swaps it for the Tingle Trophy.

Grip Ring
On Mt. Crenel, bomb the cracked wall east of the sign and enter the small cave. A Business Scrub there sells the Grip Ring for 40 Rupees. Bounce his nuts back with your shield first. The ring lets you climb the rough red wall of Crenel Wall and later the wall in the Temple of Droplets.

Power Bracelets and Flippers
Both are listed above, one in the fountain cave of Hyrule Town and one in Librari’s trial. Keep them in mind whenever a heavy object or deep water blocks your way.

Optional items
Magical Boomerang
Fuse a green Kinstone piece with each of the four Tingle brothers: Tingle in South Hyrule Field, Knuckle in Trilby Highlands, Ankle at Lon Lon Ranch and David Jr. at Lake Hylia. Each one opens a hollow tree in North Hyrule Field. Light the torch in every tree, and the ladder maze opens up to a big chest holding the Magical Boomerang (Hyrule Town Side Quests and Kinstone Fusions). Hold the button and steer it with the control pad.

Remote Bombs
After the Temple of Droplets, shrink and fuse a red piece with Elder Gentari in Minish Village, then fuse a second red piece with Belari. Speak to Belari again and he swaps your bombs for Remote Bombs. Place one, then press the button again to detonate it; you can come back to swap to normal bombs (Royal Valley and the Royal Crypt).

Light Arrows
Fuse with the Stranger south of the Hyrule Town post office, then step on the warp tile beside Link’s house to reach the Home of the Wind Tribe. Upstairs, Gregal is trapped in bed under a Rupee Wraith, so pull it off with the Gust Jar. He thanks you and gives you the Light Arrows, a form of the Bow’s ammunition (Veil Falls and the Cloud Tops).

Mirror Shield
Finish the Goron quest (Goron Quest) and fuse with the Goron on the far right in the Goron Cave. Biggoron then waits at Veil Springs. Talk to him after the ending, agree to let him eat your Small Shield and come back after a little while for the Mirror Shield (Postgame Collectibles and 100% Completion). If you lose it, buy another Small Shield in Hyrule Town and feed that to him.

Bottles
You can carry up to four Empty Bottles: from a Business Scrub in Trilby Highlands (20 Rupees), from Smith’s fusion chest in the Eastern Hills, from Stockwell’s dog at Lake Hylia and from the Goron Cave. Full locations are on Bottle Locations.

Wake-Up Mushroom and Graveyard Key
The mushroom is a one-use item for Rem. The Graveyard Key comes from Dampe in Royal Valley: tell him a king’s ghost sent you, and if a crow steals the key, dash into the tree with the Pegasus Boots to shake it loose.
