ChapterHidden Village, Sky Book and City in the Sky approach

The Ancient Sky Book is missing six Sky characters, and each one is hidden under an Owl Statue that only the Dominion Rod can lift. Six statues carry characters: one in Faron Woods, one in the Gerudo Desert and four in Hyrule Field (at Kakariko Gorge, the Bridge of Eldin, the ruined amphitheater and the Great Bridge of Hylia). Shad marks all of them on your map when you show him the book in the Kakariko basement.

Getting the Ancient Sky Book

Impaz gives you the book

After you restore Ilia’s memory and clear the Hidden Village north of the Bridge of Eldin, show the Dominion Rod to Impaz in her house. She recognizes you as the messenger to the heavens and hands over the Ancient Sky Book. The book is written in Sky Writing, the language of the Oocca, and six words in it are blank.

Shad and the first statue

Warp to Kakariko Village and drop into the basement of Renado’s sanctuary. Show the book to Shad, who is studying a statue. His reading fails to move the statue but re-powers the Dominion Rod, and he marks every Owl Statue he has tracked on your map. The first one in the basement stays stuck until the book is complete.

1. Bridge of Eldin

Warp to the Bridge of Eldin and defeat the Bulblin archer at the north end. Face the statue on the side of the bridge, point the Dominion Rod at it and lift it away. Step onto the glowing circle where it stood to receive the first character. The statue is also your key to a Heart Piece: carry it south along the bridge to the end, drop it into the gap in front of a ladder on the west side, climb on it and climb the ladder to the chest.

2. Kakariko Gorge

Warp to Kakariko Gorge and call Epona with the Horse Call. Ride to the north end of the map to the marked ledge and climb up. Pull the statue aside and step on the circle for the second character. The same statue will bridge the two gaps in the wall beside it, which leads to a chest with an orange Rupee.

3. Faron Woods

Warp to South Faron Woods and walk north-west from Coro’s house. If you have not already, blow up the boulder on the path with a bomb or the Ball and Chain. Walk to the statue behind it, lift it away and step on the circle. For the Heart Piece, move the statue into the circular hole on the other side of the tree. A short scene shows a nearby rock sliding along the shadow to some branches. As a wolf, stand on the rock and face the statue until Midna’s icon appears, then let her jump you to a high area above the Faron Woods where a hidden chest holds the piece.

4. The ruined amphitheater

Warp to Castle Town, call Epona and ride south-west to the ruined amphitheater past the west exit. Clear the Bulblins first. Lift the statue off its pillar and position it halfway between the pillar and the nearest seat. Jump on it and then to the circle for the fourth character. Moving the statue to the other side of the theater gets you to a second pillar with a chest containing an orange Rupee.

5. Great Bridge of Hylia

Ride west along the Great Bridge of Hylia to the statue on a high ledge at the north-east end. Bring it down and place it under the hanging vines. Shoot the Clawshot at the vines, drop onto the statue and jump to the ledge with the circle. The platform next to it holds a chest with an orange Rupee: put the statue between the two platforms and cross.

6. Gerudo Desert

Warp to the Gerudo Mesa and run east to the red mark on your map: a rectangular area with four stone pillars. Use the rod to place the statue between the two northern pillars, climb the north-east pillar and jump over the statue to the circle for the last character. You can keep shifting the statue across the ruins to reach the south-east platform, where a chest holds a final orange Rupee.

Other Owl Statues

Several more Owl Statues do not hide a character. One stands in the cellar under the Kakariko Sanctuary beside Shad and covers the way to the Sky Cannon once the book is complete. Two flank the exit in the Temple of Time entrance area, before the dungeon itself. Moving the one on the east side uncovers an alcove with a chest that holds a Piece of Heart, and the Sacred Grove statues in the past also hide an Imp Poe for Wolf Link.

From the book to the City in the Sky

Finish the book with Shad

When you have found all six characters, return to Shad in the Sanctuary cellar and show him the finished book. He speaks the words aloud and the Owl Statue in the cellar comes alive. Move it aside with the Dominion Rod and take the passage behind it. If Shad will not react, check your map for a statue you missed.

Repair the Sky Cannon

Beyond the statue is a rusted, broken Sky Cannon. Shad suggests a cannon expert, so Midna warps the cannon to a platform on the Lake Hylia shore, where Fyer recognises it at once. He asks for 300 Rupees as an advance and repairs it over a few days. Once he is done, use the Clawshot to get into the cannon and it blasts you to the City in the Sky. The cannon stays at Lake Hylia afterwards, so you can fly up whenever you like.

What waits in the sky

The City in the Sky is the seventh dungeon. You can find Ooccoo inside it again; as in every dungeon she can warp you out and back to the same spot. The sky characters themselves are only a gate; the Double Clawshots inside the dungeon are the real reward.

Directions and Hero Mode

Directions use the Normal Mode layout. Hero Mode mirrors the world, so swap left and right and east and west. Guides group the statues by region differently (some call the amphitheater a Lanayru Province statue, others count the two Great Bridge sites separately), but they agree on six characters in the same six places.
