Palace on the Sea is the green-brick palace on an island east of Nabooru, and it hides a fake wall on the way to the Flute. This chapter gets you through its elevators and rooms, past the Iron Knuckles that guard the Flute, and up to the boss. The shortest route: enter the green column, ride the elevators, pass the fake wall, claim the Flute, reach the high key with Fairy, defeat Gooma and place the crystal.

Entering Palace on the Sea

Enter through the green column

The entrance is a green column beside a dark green statue, and the rooms past it are built from green bricks. Red skull-bubble enemies and blue skull floaters come at you in the first rooms, so keep moving and strike when they close in. Blue slimes and red knights patrol the ledges further in.

Ride the gold-rail elevators

The palace is built around gold-rail elevator shafts, and you move between floors by riding them. Pillars with statue sprites stand in the alcoves between shafts, and blue and orange armored knights wait on the floors. Ride up or down whichever shaft leads toward the next room with a key or a ledge.

Mago enemies throw dense flames that you cannot send back, so keep your distance and step out of their path. Flames also lie on the floor near some pillars. Jump over or wait out the flames rather than standing in them.

The fake wall and the Flute

Pass the Iron Knuckles to the fake wall

This palace hides the first fake wall in the series. Defeat the red Iron Knuckle guarding a key, then follow the long hallway of bubble enemies. After the fight with a blue Iron Knuckle the way seems to end at a dead end, but part of the wall is an illusion. A man in Nabooru hints at this by talking about walking through walls, so walk into the wall to pass through.

Open the Flute room

Beyond the fake wall, a locked door is guarded by orange and blue Iron Knuckles. Defeat both, use a key on the door and take the Flute. Ride the elevator back up and head left to continue the route.

Keys and the high ledge

Reach the high key with Fairy

Early in the palace a high tunnel cannot be cleared with Jump alone, so cast Fairy to fly over it. A key hangs near your flight path, so cross first and come back for it, and watch for Bubbles in the way. Another key sits on a high platform in a falling-block room: let the blocks pile up so you can climb to it. A third needs Jump to reach a platform guarded by a red Iron Knuckle.

Attack level 7 and the shrine

Level up Attack to 7

When your experience reaches the next threshold in these rooms, a level-up menu opens. The menu lists Attack 7 at a cost of 5000 experience, so choose ATTACK WILL GO UP. You gain experience from the enemies in the green rooms, and the skull floaters are the quickest source.

Climb to the lavender shrine

Near the end of the palace, a room of lavender blocks and gold-topped pillars holds a red-and-white armored enemy that shoots blue fire. Climb the stepped platform in the lavender shrine to reach the crystal statue. Deal with the armored enemy first, because it fires as you climb.

Three side trips here are optional. The palace is large and has several dead-end rooms that hold nothing useful, so skip them if you are in a hurry. The Margos throw fire and are worth 200 EXP each, which makes them good targets if you want levels. The 200 EXP P-Bags in this palace are on the Ra-guarded crumbling bridge in the room before the first elevator, above the elevator in a room with dripping pillars (needs Jump), at the end of a room guarded by a Gooma, and beyond a red Iron Knuckle on the left of the room near the end; the 50 EXP bag is in the room of Bubbles and Margos just before the last key.

Gooma

Gooma, the palace boss

Dodge the ball and chain

Gooma is the boss of this palace in the international releases. It spins its ball and chain as you approach, then swings it, and a hit can send Link flying across the room. Jump over the ball and chain, then strike the lower body. A Downward Thrust is almost useless on Gooma, so do not rely on it. If you prefer to stay on the ground, dash in, stab low and retreat before it can throw again; landing a hit pushes it back and gives you a safe moment.

Place the crystal

Once Gooma falls, pick up the key it leaves behind and walk right to the crystal statue. Place the fifth crystal there, then leave through the exit on the right side.
