The Art of the Blade is a training battle in which Zelda spars through a string of friendly duels at Hyrule Castle: Typhan, Quino, King Rauru, then Pastos, Braton and finally the Goron chief Agraston. To clear it you simply beat Agraston, but each fight teaches a counter you will rely on all game. Clearing it unlocks Rauru as a warrior, introduces the Sync Strike and opens the quest Learning the Blade.

Table of Contents
Before you start
Level 1 is enough. You fight as Zelda until the Goron round, then Rauru becomes selectable. Sonia hands you Special Rations after the first duel; use them to heal whenever you are low. Remember the two Unique Skills you learn here: Piercing Light, which counters charging attacks, and Bow of Light, which counters jumping attacks.

How the weak point gauge works
Strong enemies carry a weak point gauge. Fill it by using a Unique Skill, by countering a red Dangerous Attack at the right moment, or by landing Flurry Rushes. Once it is empty, a Weak-Point Smash deals heavy damage. Every duel in this battle follows that pattern.

Typhan duel
Typhan opens the battle. He regularly runs at you with a charging Dangerous Attack. When the red warning appears, answer with Piercing Light to counter it and expose his weak point, then fill the gauge and finish him with a Weak-Point Smash. After he falls you can ask for a rematch, which restores your health, but you do not need one. Sonia then gives you Special Rations.

Capture the first outpost
Head south to the marked outpost. Defeat enough Hylian soldiers inside to wear down the outpost’s gauge, then beat the Hylian Captain who defends it to capture the outpost. He drops Hot-Footed Frog x2, and the road east opens.

Quino duel
At the fork beyond the outpost, ignore the dead-end south branch and keep going east to Quino. His Dangerous Attack is a jump followed by a slam. Counter it with the Bow of Light to open his weak point, then smash it. A rematch is optional here too.

King Rauru duel
Follow the road southeast under the arches to the courtyard where Rauru waits with his Spear of Light. He mixes jumping and charging Dangerous Attacks, so use the Unique Skill that matches each one. Sonia fights beside you, so your sync gauge fills as you land hits and counter his attacks. Once it is full, press L to perform a Sync Strike with her. Use it, or simply keep countering, to finish him.

Pastos, Braton and Agraston
The Gorons then burst in. Rauru decides to fight at your side against Pastos and Braton, and you can switch to him with the D-pad; this switching works in every later battle and while exploring. Both Gorons lean on charging attacks, so counter them with Rauru or Zelda as needed. The objective is to defeat Pastos and his allies. Blue Nightshade drops when Pastos falls and Mighty Bananas drop after Braton.

Agraston is last. Use the same counters, and press the right stick to change your lock-on when several strong foes are on screen. Defeating Agraston ends the battle.

Korok Seeds
Korok Seed 1: yellow flower at the fork
At the fork in the road just after the first outpost, interact with the yellow Korok flower beside the path. It is the only Korok Seed in this battle.

Treasure chests
Blue Nightshade drops when Pastos falls, and Mighty Bananas drop after Braton. A chest of 500 Rupees stands to the left of the road leading to Rauru’s arena, just before the last area. The Hylian Captain at the first outpost drops Hot-Footed Frog x2, and a chest appears there as soon as the outpost is captured, holding Raw Meat x9. A wooden crate beside the road to Rauru’s arena yields Wood. A further chest appears in Rauru’s arena once a Goron falls in the Pastos and Braton fight, holding Zonaite Steel (Spear).

Rewards and what unlocks next
Clearing the battle unlocks Rauru and the Sync Strike. It also gives Lenalia’s quest Learning the Blade in Central Hyrule, which asks for three Golden Apples (the first-clear reward gives you seven) and upgrades Zelda’s basic actions with new combos. You must finish that quest before the next story battle appears; completing it also opens three more quests, A Step Toward Strength, Boosting His Confidence and Sending Signals, plus aside quests. See Quests for the full list.
