Walkthrough

This walkthrough follows Link from Aboda Village to the Demon King Malladus in 18 chapters. Each chapter lists what you need, the route, every collectible you can pick up on the way and the dungeon item and boss at the end. Follow it in order and you will own each tool before the chapter that asks for it. When a collectible needs a tool you do not have yet, the chapter says so and the matching topic page lists it for your return trip.

Hyrule Castle and the Forest Realm

The game begins in Aboda Village and this stage ends with the first temple. You collect the Spirit Flute, the Recruit’s Sword and the Spirit Train, then restore the first tracks.

Snow Realm

The second stage introduces the cannon and the first optional collections. The temple here belongs to the Boomerang.

Ocean Realm

You need a repaired bridge and the help of Linebeck III before you can reach the sea. The temple is underwater and gives you the Whip.

Fire Realm

Lava blocks the Goron road, so this stage is a delivery job as much as a dungeon. It ends with the Bow and Arrows.

  • Tower of Spirits: Floors 13-17 and the Fire Rail Map: Beat Warp Phantoms and Phantom Eyes, collect three Tears of Light and claim the Fire Rail Map.
  • Fire Realm: Reach Goron Village, ferry Noko for Mega Ice, cool the lava, solve the Fire Sanctuary statues and play Embrose’s duet.
  • Fire Temple: Snurglar keys, Heatoise and the Bow, mine carts, Boss Key, Cragma, Heart Container and the Goron Quiver.

Sand Realm

The tower reopens with a boss fight against Byrne, and then the last tracks appear. The temple gives you the Sand Wand and the Bow of Light.

Dark Realm

The last stage has two chapters: a final climb of the tower and the ending itself.

How the Tower of Spirits Fits In

The Tower of Spirits is the hub of the whole adventure and has 30 floors. You climb it six times, always after finishing a realm. In each of the first five climbs you gather 3 Tears of Light and use them with Phantom Zelda to clear floors of Phantoms. The first four climbs end with a Rail Map, which opens tracks to the next realm. The fifth climb ends with Byrne and with Anjean’s gift of tracks to the Sand Realm. The sixth ends with the Compass of Light, which reveals the route to the Dark Realm.

Collectible Totals

The walkthrough marks each collectible where you first pass it. The totals for a full clear, and the pages that explain them in detail, are these.

  • Heart Containers: 13, for a maximum of 16 hearts. Five come from temple bosses and eight from other sources.
  • Stamp stations: 20, with prizes at 10, 15 and 20 stamps.
  • Rabbits: 50, ten in each realm.
  • Force Gems: 21 side-quest gems, three of which the story requires.
  • Train cars: 8 sets of 4 cars.
  • Treasures: 16 kinds, from 50 to 2,500 rupees.
  • Flute songs: 5 songs and 5 Lokomo duets, plus the final duet with Zelda against Malladus.
  • Mini-games: 6, with prizes up to Heart Containers and Regal Rings. Four of them (Take ‘Em All On! Level 1, the Whip Race, the Pirate Hideout and the Braintwister room at the Ends of the Earth Station) pay a Heart Container.
