To the Great Plateau is the opening battle of the game and works as a tutorial. You control Zelda, follow Rauru and Sonia through the Forest of Spirits, free a group of Hylian soldiers from the Shades that possess them and keep walking until you reach the Great Plateau. The goal is simply to follow the story to the end of the walk and move on to The Art of the Blade.

Table of Contents
Before you start
The recommended level is 1 and Zelda is the only character you can use, so there are no choices to make. Treat this as a chance to settle into the controls, because the next battles build on them.

Basic controls
Press Y for a regular attack and X for a strong attack; ending a string of regular hits with X finishes a combo. Press B to dodge, and if you tap it at the moment an enemy hit would land you pull off a perfect dodge, which opens up a Flurry Rush. Hold ZL to block.

Forest of Spirits walkthrough
Follow Rauru and Sonia
After the opening scenes, Zelda wakes in the forest beside two strangers who turn out to be Rauru and Sonia. Walk behind them along the path while on-screen prompts teach you how to move and how to move the camera. Nothing attacks you yet.

Fight the Shades
When you reach the Hylian soldiers’ camp a short scene plays: the soldiers are possessed by Shades, and Zelda draws on the power of light to fight them. Rauru and Sonia fight beside you. This is the combat lesson: prompts ask you to chain Y attacks, finish with X for a strong attack, dodge with B and guard with ZL. The possessed soldiers are weak, so you can experiment without worrying about your health.

Reach the Great Plateau
Once the last possessed soldier is down, Rauru and Sonia take over and calm the area. Keep following them along the road, past a Zonai stone monument, until you reach the Great Plateau and Hyrule Castle comes into view.

Rewards and what unlocks next
This battle has no boss. Clearing it makes the next story battle available.
