The Counterstrike sends Rauru, Agraston and Qia across the Seres Scablands, capturing outposts until the path to the Archfiend Grimgohma opens. Zelda joins midway, you split into two groups at times, and the battle ends when Grimgohma falls in the outpost at the southeast corner.

Before you start

Aim for level 37. You cannot swap the starting trio, but bring Bombs and Batteries for the boss, since bombs are what break Grimgohma’s shell. Carry Special Rations for the rocks he launches across the map.

Outposts and mini-bosses

Stealth strike the Fire Boss Bokoblin

The Fire Boss Bokoblin ahead of you has not noticed you. Sneak up and hit it with a stealth strike to destroy its weak-point gauge and set up a weak-point smash, then finish it for bonus rewards.

West outpost and the Stone Talus

Head west and defeat the Stone Talus inside the outpost to capture it. Afterwards, order a unit to take the north outpost while you capture the southern outpost that is the main objective.

Black Hinox outpost

At the next outpost, defeat the Black Hinox inside to capture it. Glowing red rocks from Grimgohma’s attacks litter the ground around this fight and explode, so keep moving past them.

Zelda joins the fight

From the next objective, Zelda becomes available. Send her to capture the outposts to the east and southeast while you take the objective outpost guarded by a Black Boss Bokoblin, then regroup.

Fire Lynel

Defeat the Fire Lynel southeast of the objective outpost you just took. Clearing it opens the road to Grimgohma.

Grimgohma, Archfiend of Lava, waits in the arena as a new objective appears

Grimgohma boss fight

Grimgohma waits in the outpost at the southeast corner of the map. He has two forms: a dark, lava-veined body with fiery claws, then a fiery crab-like form that rains Gloom Rocks.

Phase 1: break the shell

Use plenty of Bombs and Batteries until his outer shell breaks and his weak-point gauge empties, then land a weak-point smash.

Phase 2: send the rocks back

After the first smash, Grimgohma raises a giant rock in the middle of the arena and hurls explosive rocks. Hit them back at him to damage the giant rock, but leave any that are already glowing, because they explode on contact. Keep returning rocks until the weak-point gauge is empty again to win the battle.

Korok Seeds

There are four Korok Seeds.

Korok Seed

Seed 1: rocky outcrop before the camp outpost

Past the first captured outpost and camp, a ??? prompt appears at a rocky outcrop beside the path just before the outpost gate. Interact with it to make the Korok pop out.

Korok Seed

Seed 2: yellow flower west of the north outpost

Interact with the yellow flower beside the northern outpost to make the Korok pop out.

Korok Seed

Seed 3: glowing spot by the eastern campsite

Interact with the glowing spot by the fence and boulders near the eastern campsite; the Korok is hiding among the boulders.

Korok Seed

Seed 4: Korok balloon

Pop the Korok balloon floating over the mossy rocks east of where the Fire Lynel stood, shortly before Grimgohma’s arena.

Treasure chests

Four chests are hidden here. Zonaite Steel (Spear) is in a chest on the dirt hillside near the first outposts. Zonaite Steel (Two-Handed) is beside a torch; open it while Pastos fights nearby. Zonaite Steel (One-Handed) sits right by the east gate of the eastern campsite, where Black Bokoblins throw bombs. Rupees x300 are behind two bomb-throwing Black Bokoblins perched in trees, so attack the trees to bring them down first.

Aside quests

Clearing this battle opens new quests, among them Seeking Unknown Strength, Cheer Up!, Beating the Heat, Swifter and Surer and I’ll Take ‘Em Down!, as well as the four secret-stone challenges.
