Fifty-four are hidden in 17 story battles, two more are hidden in the Chapter 2 challenge A Time for Review, 33 are first-clear rewards for seven challenges, and 12 are rewards for four of Calamo’s aside quests. You hand seeds in to quests that raise your Zonaite Steel capacity, weapon capacity, camp supply slots and Special Ration and Battery limits, and doing every one of those quests takes 99 of the 101.

What Korok Seeds do

How hidden Koroks work

Each hidden Korok is revealed by a small interaction during a battle: a pinwheel, a yellow flower, a shimmering or glowing spot, a Korok stump, a wooden crate, a floating Korok balloon, or yellow rings in a flight battle. Walk up and interact with it, or break or pop it, and the Korok hands over a seed. Two aids make the hunt easier: the Bonus Exchange card “Show Koroks on Minimap” costs 2 Bonus Vouchers, and the quest “Dancing in the Rain” shows how many hidden Koroks a stage holds. Camps and Shops explains the exchange.

Quests that spend seeds

Seeds are a quest currency: you hand them in with the other materials a quest asks for. Eighteen quests take them. The twelve Battle Support quests take the most (72 seeds in all), the three Items quests take 9, the two Camp quests take 15 and one character quest takes 3. The table lists them from the cheapest up. Several only open late in the game, so seeds you find early simply wait in your inventory.

How the 101 add up

Totals and why guides differ

The count works out as 54 seeds in 17 story battles, 2 in A Time for Review, 33 from the seven challenges and 12 from Calamo’s aside quests, which makes 101. Some tallies fold the 54 and the 2 into one figure of 56 battle seeds, and a few give 55. Individual battles also differ between guides: the Howling Tempests is sometimes counted as 2 seeds, Terror of the Sands as 3 and A Time for Action as 5. This page uses 3, 4 and 4, because the yellow flower on the road to the first Gibdo-hive outpost belongs to Terror of the Sands and the crate behind the gate after Typhan joins is the third seed in the Howling Tempests. If your own count is off by one, check those three battles first.
