Secret Medicine is Crazy Tracy’s special medicine and works like a fairy that you carry in your inventory: when your hearts reach zero it fills them all back up and disappears. You can buy it at Crazy Tracy’s Health Spa for 28 or 42 rupees, and you can also find a free dose in the chests of Face Shrine and Turtle Rock. You can only carry one dose at a time.

Where is Crazy Tracy’s Health Spa?

The spa is in the northern part of Koholint Prairie, near Goponga Swamp. Once you know Manbo’s Mambo, playing it from the overworld warps you to the pond beside the spa, which is the quickest way in. The walkthrough visits it in Ukuku Prairie, Kanalet Castle and Key Cavern.

Talk to Crazy Tracy and say yes to the medicine. She sells one dose for 28 rupees or 42 rupees: the price depends on whether the hidden count of enemies you have defeated is even or odd, and two sources also list a 7 rupee price on every eighth purchase, which is hard to plan around. She helps you apply it and also tops up your hearts as a bonus after a purchase. If you already carry a dose she will not sell you another.

How Secret Medicine works

The medicine sits in your items menu and needs no button press. When Link takes damage that would reduce his hearts to zero, it activates, refills all your hearts and is used up. Buy another dose at the spa to be protected again.

If you open a treasure chest containing Secret Medicine while you already carry a dose, Link puts it back, so the chest is not lost. Face Shrine and Turtle Rock each have one such chest (Face Shrine: after the conveyor belts; Turtle Rock: on the lava platform, reached with the Hookshot). You can come back for either once your dose is used up.

Secret Medicine and bottled fairies

The medicine and a bottled fairy are separate safety nets, so you can carry both and have more than one chance in a hard fight. Keep one dose of medicine and one or two bottled fairies for long boss fights such as the Shadow Nightmares at the end. See fairy bottles for the three bottles you can find.

Tips

Buy the medicine as soon as you can afford it, and refill it after every use. An even enemy count gives the 28 rupee price and an odd count gives 42. Carry a dose into every long dungeon and into the Wind Fish’s Egg.
