Figures and Trendy Game

Total10 figures, plus a Yoshi Doll, two Pieces of Heart and two Secret Seashells from the same crane
WhereTrendy Game shop, Mabe Village; figures go on display stands in four village houses
Cost10 rupees per try (5 rupees once you own all ten figures)
RewardA Chamber Stone for all ten figures

The Trendy Game is the crane machine in the Mabe Village shop, and it is the only place to win the ten figures. Each try costs 10 rupees. The first figure appears after you win the Yoshi Doll, the next eight arrive as you clear the eight dungeons, and the tenth, BowWow, comes after the ending. You can carry only one figure at a time, so put each on a display stand in a house before the next appears. Winning all ten earns a Chamber Stone and cuts every try to 5 rupees.

How the crane works

Talk to the owner and pay 10 rupees. You steer the claw forward and sideways with the buttons shown on screen, then drop it. The Switch crane uses real physics, so prizes slip out of the claw easily and misses are common. Some prizes sit on platforms that slide left and right. Line the claw up directly above the prize, drop, and aim for its widest part.

The Yoshi Doll starts the trading sequence. The Piece of Heart is one of the Pieces of Heart, and the shell is one of the 50 in the Secret Seashell guide. Small extras such as a heart and bombs can also turn up in the pool.

ClaoClao

After the Yoshi Doll the machine adds the ClaoClao figure. Win it and carry it to Madam MeowMeow’s house, near the BowWow doghouse in the north of the village. The first chapter covers it.

Goomba

Win it after Tail Cave and place it in the house you wake up in, Marin and Tarin’s house (Mysterious Forest chapter).

Spiny and Boo

Both stands are in Papahl’s house. Win the Spiny after Bottle Grotto and the Boo after Key Cavern; the Spiny is covered in the Ukuku Prairie chapter and the Boo in the Yarna Desert chapter.

Cheep Cheep and Blooper

These two go in Ulrira’s house. The Cheep Cheep is the Level 4 prize, collected in the Martha’s Bay chapter. The Blooper is the Level 5 prize, collected after Catfish’s Maw, as the Face Shrine chapter shows.

Shy Guy

The Shy Guy arrives after the Face Shrine and is collected in the Tal Tal Heights chapter. Display it with the others in Papahl’s house.

Piranha Plant

Pick up the Piranha Plant after Eagle’s Tower. Display it in Marin and Tarin’s house. The Western Tal Tal chapter has the route.

Pokey

Win the Pokey after Turtle Rock and place it in Papahl’s house (final chapter).

BowWow and the Chamber Stone

After the ending, load your save and return to the Trendy Game. BowWow is the tenth figure. Put it in Madam MeowMeow’s house, then talk to the Trendy Gamester, who gives you a Chamber Stone for the completed set. Every later try costs 5 rupees.

Common problems

If a figure is missing from the machine, you are probably still carrying the previous one: place it on a stand first. The display houses listed here come from two guides; one chapter of this guide uses the shorter name “Link’s House” for Marin and Tarin’s house.
