RequirementBombs for the three fountains behind cracked walls; the Forest fountain needs nothing
RewardA free, full heart refill, and small fairies you can catch in an empty bottle

Koholint has four Great Fairy Fountains. One sits in the open in the Mysterious Forest, and the other three are caves sealed by cracked walls that need a bomb. Step into the pool at any of them and a Great Fairy restores all of your hearts for free, and the small fairies flying around are the ones you can scoop up with an empty bottle. A different healer, the Fairy Queen, waits at the end of the optional Color Dungeon and offers the Red Mail or the Blue Mail instead.

What the Great Fairies do

Walk into the water and the Great Fairy circles you and refills every heart. It costs nothing, you can return as often as you like, and the fountains work as emergency stops between dungeons. A few small fairies also drift around the pool: use an empty bottle from the item menu near one to keep it, and a bottled fairy refills your hearts later. The three bottles are listed in the Fairy Bottle guide. The Great Fairies only heal. We found no source for them upgrading bombs, Magic Powder or other gear in the Switch remake, and the Li’l Devil is an unrelated character.

The four fountains

Mysterious Forest fountain

This is the only fountain in plain sight. It lies in a small pond in the Mysterious Forest, so you can reach it before you own any bombs. It is a good stop on the forest trip for the Tail Key, covered in the Toronbo Shores, Mabe Village and Tail Cave chapter.

Ukuku Prairie fountain

Look for the cave north of the Beehive Tree, bomb the cracked wall and walk in. The pool is inside. You pass this area while collecting Secret Seashells in the Ukuku Prairie chapter.

Face Shrine fountain

Follow the cliffs east of the Face Shrine until you find a cracked wall. Bomb it to open a short passage to the pool. It is close to the dungeon entrance, so use it before and after the Face Shrine; the Southern Face Shrine chapter covers the area.

Eagle’s Tower fountain

In the Tal Tal Mountains, bomb the cracked wall in the cave south of Eagle’s Tower. The pool is the last good healing spot before the Level 7 dungeon, as the Tal Tal Heights chapter shows.

The Fairy Queen (Color Dungeon)

The Fairy Queen is not a Great Fairy and does not heal you. She lives at the end of the Color Dungeon and asks which power you want: Powerful Red Mail boosts your attack, Sturdy Blue Mail halves the damage you take, or you can keep your green tunic. You can walk back and change your answer later.

Notes on the map count

Community maps show three markers in the Fairy Fountain category, two of them behind cracked walls, plus a further cracked-wall marker labelled as a fountain; together they match the four above. The Zelda Wiki and Zelda Dungeon agree on the four locations but word the Face Shrine position differently (east of the shrine, or on the northwest of its waterfall landmass), so use the cracked wall near the dungeon entrance as your landmark.
