You start with the Lightweight Lure, which suits surface fish. The Middleweight Lure sinks to the bottom more easily. The Heavyweight Lure sinks fastest, so fish above the bottom cannot bite it on the way down. Fish are measured in inches and bigger ones pay more rupees.

How to hook and reel

Talk to the Fisherman and pay 10 rupees. Hold the button to cast farther, then jiggle the stick to attract fish. Wait for a real bite before you mash the button. The first chapter visits the pond.

Runts and Lunkers

Reel quickly while the fish faces you. When it swims away, tap about once per second so the line does not snap. The Lunker is the big green fish. Catch one for the Middleweight Lure, and a large one counts toward the second Piece of Heart.

Cheep Cheep

Use the Lightweight Lure near the surface. Reel normally, tap about once per second as it flees, and stop reeling when it jumps; pressing while it is airborne breaks the line. The first one gives a Secret Seashell.

Blooper

Reel only while it sinks and stop when it rises. The first Blooper gives the Heavyweight Lure (Face Shrine chapter). A fish over 40 inches gives the second shell.

Ol’ Baron

Look for a glowing circle on the water; Ol’ Baron appears only while it shows, and not every time. If there is no glow, step into a building and return, or pay for a new round. Use the Heavyweight Lure at the bottom and reel gently, because hauling while he swims away breaks the line. The Tal Tal Heights chapter covers the catch. The second stone needs an Ol’ Baron over 60 inches.

The bottle

With the Middleweight Lure, cast past the seaweed in the lower left, drag the lure over the bottle and reel it in. Biting fish can knock the line loose, so catch the fish near the seaweed first. All three bottles are in the Fairy Bottle guide.

Unconfirmed details

Sources disagree about the second Piece of Heart: the Zelda Wiki says a first catch over 30 pounds gives a second heart or a shell, while Nintendo Wire uses 20 inches for the heart and 40 for the shell. The 20, 40 and 60 inch thresholds come from one source, so treat them as approximate. Ol’ Baron’s value is 90 or 100 rupees depending on the source. All Pieces of Heart are listed in the Piece of Heart guide.
