Minish Portals

TotalNo official count: at least 16 tree stumps and 8 pots in Hyrule Town, plus rock and dungeon portals
TypesTree stumps, pots (and jars), rocks, dungeon portals
NeededEzlo’s Minish Cap; the Cane of Pacci for jars that are not yet portals
UseStand on it and press R to shrink to Minish size, or to grow back

A Minish Portal is any stump, pot, rock or floor tile where you can press R to shrink to Minish size with Ezlo’s help, and press it again to grow back. At Minish size you can enter the tiny cracks and houses of the Minish, walk through tiny doors and cross gaps that are too small for a human. There is no single published total, but at least 16 tree stumps, 8 Hyrule Town pots and a handful of rock and dungeon portals exist.

How Minish Portals work

Once Ezlo is with you, stand on a portal and press R: the screen zooms in and you appear at Minish size. Press R on a portal again to grow back. Where you shrink matters, because you can only grow at another portal: you cannot grow back in the middle of a room. Some portals are blocked at first: a jar that is lying on its side only becomes a portal when you stand the Cane of Pacci in front of it.

Portals you use on the story route

Minish Woods and Eastern Hills

The first portal is the tree stump beside the house of Belari, the Minish inventor, which you use to return to normal size. Another stump leads from the Minish Woods down into Minish Village, and a third on the grassy cliff of the Eastern Hills (beside a red mushroom) leads to a Forest Minish. See The Picori Festival and the Minish Woods.

Mt. Crenel

Bomb the cracked rock beside the large stone near the Grip Ring and you find a rock portal. A second rock portal appears on the dusty plateau once you suck up the dust with the Gust Jar. Shrink at both to reach Minish paths with chests and the Crenel Hot Spring Water. See Ascent to Mount Crenel.

Hyrule Town

Hyrule Town has eight pot entrances, according to the Zelda wikis: Mama’s Cafe, Stockwell’s Shop, Rem’s Shoe Store, the Carpenters’ house, the Guy’s house, the Library roof, Funday School and the Funday School roof. Several are upside-down at first and need the Cane of Pacci. On the story route you shrink at the cafe pot to cross the beams to Stockwell’s counter (see Getting the Pegasus Boots), use the library roof jar to climb into the bookcase and the blue pot in the girl’s house to reach the fireplace and the carpenters’ house (see Getting the Flippers). A portal at the bakery lets you reach a small chest of 100 rupees.

Lon Lon Ranch, South Hyrule Field and Lake Hylia

A stump beside Talon’s house at Lon Lon Ranch lets you slip in at Minish size and take the spare key from a pot. Stumps on the plateau north of the ranch and on the river bank lead to Kinstone pieces and Pieces of Heart. At Lake Hylia, a stump by the Wind Crest, a stump near Mayor Hagen’s house and a portal revealed by ramming the odd tree behind Hagen’s cabin with the Pegasus Boots all lead into Minish areas. See Getting the Flippers.

Castor Wilds and Wind Ruins

Castor Wilds has a stump on a north-west ledge at the edge of the swamp, used to cross the lily pads at Minish size on the way to the Bow. The Wind Ruins have two stumps in the yard, used to shrink and enter the Armos to switch them off. See Castor Wilds and the Wind Ruins.

Dungeons

In the Cave of Flames, you go through the first portal and the Minish door to find the Dungeon Map, and pass a second pair to cross a corridor of blades (see Cave of Flames). The Fortress of Winds has a portal in the sand room and another in the upper corner of the boss room (see Fortress of Winds).

Optional portals

Other stumps lead to Percy’s house near the Trilby Highlands pond, a Forest Minish at a Trilby Highlands stump (fusing there drains the pond), the Lon Lon Ranch grassy platform and the Forest Minish hut at Mt. Crenel. They hold optional Kinstone fusions and Pieces of Heart. See Heart Piece Locations.
