Hero’s Cave

LocationLynna City (present), just south-west of the Maku Tree, near the Maku Road
AvailabilityLinked Game only. Oracle of Ages has no Hero’s Cave in a single game
RequirementTreasure from the sixth dungeon: the Mermaid Suit from Mermaid’s Cave. Bombs, the Long Hook and the Roc’s Feather help with the puzzles
RewardArmor Ring L-3 from the last chest, plus Gasha Seeds, small keys and rupees along the way
EnemiesNo mini-boss and no boss. The cave has puzzles and a few enemies, mostly bats and Zols

Hero’s Cave is an optional dungeon that appears only in a Linked Game. It is a linear cave in which each room has a puzzle or a locked door that must be solved before the next one opens. You need the Mermaid Suit before you can finish it, so save it for after Mermaid’s Cave. The cave’s last chest holds the Armor Ring L-3, which you cannot get anywhere else in Oracle of Ages. Warp points appear partway through, so you can leave and return to the same place.

Finding the entrance

Entrance in Lynna City

Go to Lynna City in the present, and walk to the area south-west of the Maku Tree, near the Maku Road. The cave’s entrance is there, and it only appears in a Linked Game. Warp points inside the cave let you come back to the deepest point you reached, so you do not need to finish it in one visit. Read the Linked Game Secrets page for the other Linked Game content around Lynna City.

When to go

Wait until you have the Mermaid Suit. The cave’s later rooms need the items from earlier dungeons, and some of its locks cannot be opened without them. You can start the cave earlier and explore the first rooms, but you cannot finish it until you have the Mermaid Suit from Mermaid’s Cave.

The Armor Ring L-3

Reward chest

The last chest sits in an enclosed sand room with blue-walled edges. Opening it gives you a ring, and the game says you will appraise it later. The chest does not name the ring, but this is the Hero’s Cave reward. Hero’s Cave is the only source of the Armor Ring L-3 in Oracle of Ages. Take it to Vasu Jewelers in Lynna City to have it identified, then keep it, because it cuts both the damage you take and the damage your sword deals by three quarters. The full ring list is on the Magical Rings page.

Gasha Seeds

Hero’s Cave also holds two Gasha Seeds. One comes from the pot in the sand room and one from the pedestal chest in the switch room. Plant them in soft soil to start Gasha Trees, which can give you rings and other rewards. Gasha Seeds are not needed to finish the cave, but they are part of the 100% collection.

Linked Game context

In a Linked Game, Hero’s Cave is one of the last things you clear before the finale. It sits beside the Maku Road, so it is easy to clear together with your ring appraisals at Vasu Jewelers. Its counterpart in Oracle of Seasons holds the Power Ring L-3 instead, so a complete ring collection needs both games. See the Final Collection and the Hero’s Cave chapter for the full run of collectibles.
