This chapter sends you from the Wind Crest at Lake Hylia to the Hyrule Town library, where Elder Librari is cut off because three books are overdue. You return the books for Link’s reward, pick up the Power Bracelets on the way, then follow Elder Librari into a trial room that holds the Flippers, the item you need to reach the Temple of Droplets.

Lake Hylia: Wind Crest and the Minish house

Warp to Lake Hylia

After the Fortress of Winds, open the Ocarina of Wind menu and warp to the Wind Crest at Lake Hylia. Ezlo explains that the Ocarina lets you call Zeffa to fly you to any Wind Crest you have already seen, so you can use this warp for the rest of the game. A tree stump marked with a note stands beside the crest.

Talk to the Forest Minish

Step on the stump to shrink at the Minish Portal and walk into the little house next to it. The Forest Minish inside tells you that the Elder Librari, who once went into the Temple of Droplets, is now in semi-retirement in the town library, so that is your next stop.

Fuse a red Kinstone piece with this Forest Minish. The matching halves fit and a tree in Western Wood opens; the Piece of Heart inside it is yours whenever you walk over there (see Minish Woods fusions and Heart Piece locations). This is the first of five completed fusions in this chapter.

Return to Hyrule Town

Walk back onto the stump to grow to normal size, then play the Ocarina of Wind again and warp to the Hyrule Town Wind Crest. You arrive on the main road with the library just ahead.

Hyrule Town library and the three overdue books

Fuse with Klaus

Go into the library and talk to Klaus, the old man standing near the left bookshelves. Fuse a red Kinstone piece with him. The pieces fit, and in Hyrule Castle Garden the fountain drains and a stairway opens (the Piece of Heart below it is collected later). The librarian Sturgeon also offers a fusion; you can back out of any prompt for which you have no matching piece, and nothing is lost.

Reach the Minish bookshelf

Climb the stairs in the north-west corner of the library, step out of the door onto the roof and use the Cane of Pacci on the jar there to make a Minish Portal. Shrink, then go through the small Minish door beside the roof door to reach the Minish world inside the bookcase. A Minish on the shelf tells you a human has borrowed a book and now none of them can reach Elder Librari, so the books must come back.

Ask the librarian

Grow to normal size and speak to the librarian on the ground floor. She confirms that books are long overdue and that three are out: A Hyrulean Bestiary, checked out by a girl with a cat, then Legend of the Picori and A History of Masks. She names the next borrower each time you return one, so the order below is the order she gives you.

Book 1: A Hyrulean Bestiary

Fill the bottle with water

Leave the library and walk down to the stream that runs through the eastern side of town. Dip your bottle to fill it with water; you need it to put out a fire in the girl’s house.

Fireplace route to the blue house

Go to the south-east corner of Hyrule Town, where the girl and her cat live next to the blue-roofed house that holds the book. Walk into her house and pour the water on the burning fireplace. Shrink at the blue pot (the portal) in the room and climb into the cleared fireplace; it leads over a plank to the fireplace of the blue house.

Push the book off the shelf

As Minish-size Link, climb the small ladder and walk along the bookcase, keeping clear of the cat that wanders in the room. Push the book off the shelf so that it falls to the floor.

The cat, Scratcher, offers a Kinstone fusion while you are here. Fuse a green piece with it; the pieces fit and a chest appears in the grass of Lon Lon Ranch. Green fusions are random, so treat it as a bonus chest to open on a later visit (the Lon Lon Ranch fusions page lists the area).

Go back through the fireplace and out of the girl’s house, then enter the blue house at normal size and pick up the book from the floor.

Fusion with the Hurdy-Gurdy Man

On the way back to the library, drop into Mama’s Cafe in Hyrule Town. The Hurdy-Gurdy Man, the same man who first taught you to fuse Kinstones, sits near the counter. Fuse a green piece with him; the pieces fit and a chest appears beside the small pond in the Minish Woods. You may meet other townspeople who offer fusions along the way, such as the dog Growler or the red-haired man in the yellow-roofed house, but only fuse if you hold a piece that fits.

Return the first book

Walk into the library and give the librarian the Bestiary. She thanks you and tells you the next overdue book is checked out by an absent-minded scholar, Dr. Left.

Book 2: Legend of the Picori and the Power Bracelets

Dr. Left’s house

Walk to the purple-roofed house at the west edge of the town, near the entrance, and speak to Dr. Left. He is sure the book is in the house somewhere, but he does not know where. A fire burns in his fireplace, and you will need to put it out.

Shrink and take the fireplace

Pour water on the fire (refill the bottle at the stream first if it is empty). Then go to the carpenters’ house, a short walk away, and shrink at the blue pot on the right of the room. Walk back to Dr. Left’s house at Minish size, climb up the cleared fireplace, and enter the Minish hole on the right.

The Minish inside gives you a riddle that points the way to a hidden Minish path; you need the Power Bracelets from it before you can finish the room. Leave through the fireplace again and cross the town to the yellow-roofed house just north of the cafe.

The cave behind the town fountain

Cross the plank over the waterfall and follow the Minish path into the yard where the cats guard their territory. Stay clear of them and walk up the steps to the town fountain, then step into the water-pump entrance behind it. This is a small Minish cave, so Link must still be Minish size.

Fight through the cave rooms, cutting the bees and the small enemies. In the first room use the Cane of Pacci on the round hole to step up to the next level. In the last room four blue Mulldozer beetles charge in; hit each from the side or behind until all four are down. A big chest appears holding the Power Bracelets, which you wear permanently and which let you push heavy objects even at Minish size.

Push the dressers and drop the book

Return to Dr. Left’s house the same way and use the Power Bracelets to push the two large dressers, first the left one against the edge of the fireplace and then the other toward it, to build a path up to a Minish hole. Climb in, use the Gust Jar on the dust at the lower left to reveal the colored pads, then make a copy of Link and have both stand on the green book. It slides off the ledge and falls to the floor.

Leave the hole, grow to normal size and pick up the green book from the floor of Dr. Left’s house. He is happy to part with it.

Return the second book

Take it to the library. The librarian is delighted and says you deserve a medal. She then tells you the last overdue book, A History of Masks, was checked out by Mayor Hagen.

Book 3: A History of Masks (Mayor Hagen’s lake cabin)

Mayor Hagen’s house

Go to the mayor’s house to the right of the big bell in the town centre. He does not remember where the book went. Equip the Pegasus Boots and dash into the wall to knock the masks off, then use the Cane of Pacci on the jar there to make a portal and enter the Minish hole behind it. The Minish inside tells you the mayor took the book to his lake cabin and marks it on your map.

Mole Mitts tunnel in the Minish Woods

Run out of Hyrule Town through Hyrule Field and Eastern Hills into Lon Lon Ranch. Continue south-east through the Lake Hylia area and then south into the Minish Woods, where the cabin trail begins south-west of Syrup’s Hut.

Equip the Mole Mitts and dig through the closed doorway in the cliff, then follow the tunnel west to a chest. Inside is a blue Kinstone piece (your only new piece in this chapter).

Keep digging to the dead end, where a Mysterious Wall waits. Fuse a blue piece with the wall: a Goron appears in the Goron Cave under Lon Lon Ranch. This is one of the five Mysterious Walls that complete the Goron quest and the bottle at the end of it.

The cabin on Lake Hylia

Leave the tunnel by the ladder on the north side and climb up to the Lake Hylia area, where Hagen’s cabin stands over the water. Ram the odd tree behind the cabin with the Pegasus Boots to reveal a Minish Portal, then step onto it to shrink.

Take the Minish path to the cabin, then use the Gust Jar to push the lily pad across the pond and move the shelf aside to uncover a small ladder. Climb it, push the book off the fireplace, then grow to normal size, go in through the cabin’s front door and pick up A History of Masks.

Return the last book

Play the Ocarina of Wind and warp to Hyrule Town, then take the book to the librarian. She comments on how hard it must have been to get it back from the mayor, and calls Sturgeon down to put all the books back on the shelves.

Elder Librari’s trial and the Flippers

The Minish reward and Elder Librari

Shrink again at the roof jar and go back into the Minish bookcase. The Minish there thank you for returning the books and hand over 50 Rupees.

Climb the shelves up to Elder Librari’s room, past the clover book. He greets you, and when you stand on the clover pad in front of his desk a panel opens and the floor drops away. You fall into a trial room that holds the item you need for the Temple of Droplets.

The trial room

You land in a cage of stone blocks. Push the corner block of the L-shaped wall to get out, then use the Gust Jar on the blue mushroom beside the river to launch yourself across the water.

On the far side, cut through the buzzing insects that swarm around the pots and go through the door at the top. The next room has four lit braziers around a small platform.

Two Scissors Beetles defend the platform. Wait for their blue claws to fly past, then slash them from the side or from behind until both are dead. A big chest appears. Open it for the Flippers: press A to glide through water and B to dive. Hop into the water at the left of the room and swim out; Lake Hylia and the Temple of Droplets are next.
